No because we had an exceptional situation in which their list boss came out and basically nominated Gibbs hinself so we still had huge leverage. Houston nominates and port have far less bargaining power due to Carltons repeated openly stated preference of taking picks to the draft.

Completely different really.
Same same in my book.

Kennedy fulfills that second string midfielder spot at every club. No club would he be first choice.

So then - why ? With a salary cap you want turnover in spots that are quickest to develop and stability in other spots. That second stringer can just as easily.and more effectively.be filled by a 19/20 year old who you are getting ready to step into the first rotation one day. For less capital and salary cost than Kennedy.

I think he's basically valueless on the open market because of that. Thick of it like an oppos list manager I guess....
Sure he can play midfield but why do I want him taking minutes off the group of sub 21 year Olds etc.

It's interesting because that relationship was in a bad way - good on both sides for seemingly not burning the bridge/ repairing it.
Pretty accurate. I love Kennedy. Heart wants him to stay, head says Vossy has him behind George and Cez, he will probably be better off elsewhere.

In 2025, he is replaced by Lord and Moir mid and forward, kids but good kids who may go past him fairly quickly. Then his utility role has Silvagni back and fit who is perhaps even more versatile, and realistically brings more forward pressure.

Do we need a small forward in 2025?
Rating our current group:
1. Williams, a revelation when he moved there. Can lower the eyes and hit a target, can hit the pack, can tackle on the way out and more importantly can mark overhead. Needs a preseason and specialist coaching to become more consistent.
2. Fogerty, pressure machine, good reader of the play. Lacks the athleticism to regularly hit the scoreboard.
3. Owies, finds the space and a good finisher on the set shot..tries hard but doesn't create pressure consistently and allows defenders to run off.
4. Moir, has the x factor but needs to get fit and demonstrate if he can defend.
5. Motlop, was injured and unfit in 2024, give him the benefit of the doubt. His best is good, his hands and tackling need to be better. Big preseason required.
6. Durdin has moments but doesn't have enough of them.
7. Fantasia cops a lot of grief around here but was one of the few players that could hit an open target in the forward line on a consistent basis.

I'm not sure we need to be drafting &/or trading for a small forward this year given the contract situation. I think letting Owies go is fine. Next year might be a different story.

Not sure if anyone just caught that Houston comment by Hannebery on Trade Radio. Said Carlton are "insanely confident" in getting Houston and mentioned that the "Barass pick" may be involved. Then they just changed the topic so have no idea what that means

WC gets Hawks 1st plus change for Barrass, give it to tigers for Baker. Tigers trade it to us for F1. We give 15 + 33 for Houston plus change. Keep 12 + F2. Use change and some pick swaps (plus maybe kennedy) to get enough points for Campos.

That actually all sounds pretty realistic. Port will push for 12. Maybe we do that and keep 15 if we are really desperate so long as they give us back some 3rds to get Campos.

Suns could hand them some if they give F1 for Jack L.

Yep, a little cryptic.

I have been very surprised that Jack Carroll has had little more than a passing mention on Gettable. He is not high profile or high value, but has constantly been asked about by West Coast for a number of years. He is the type who could step up and play a full season now after a slow burn development. Has traditionally put in a big pre season in the west (some with Crippa) Think he is ready for a break out as an inside/outside player. Genuinely think he would be a good fit in their engine room as a foil for old bull Yeo and young bull Harley.

All of our “non committed to” players would likely have some value in the West Coast eyes, so there may be something brewing. I will be happy when Barrass and Baker are sorted and the Eagles can spread their attention.

It might just be that other clubs know they can get these guys for nothing later so not a priority yet.

Sounds like Houston will end up at Collingwood according to C4 over on Port board?
If he does, so be it. There are plenty of reasons to hunt him, and plenty of reasons to walk away. Happy for the right deal to be done, but almost certain Austin wants his silky athletic distributor type and a KPD to develop along with the Campos. That means he wants the picks to draft our targets, with or without Houston.

Barrass deal will hinge on how much cap WC are willing to pay
I find it bizarre how Hawthorn could actively pursue and chase a contracted player to come join them and then when it comes to trading him in, request WCE to contribute to the contract that Hawthorn knowingly and willingly chose to take on when they chased him, so as to help facilitate the trade.

If I was WCE i would say we want your first pick and you take the entire contract on as you knew all about it when you chased him. If Hawks bulk then Barass plays for WCE next year and Hawks look foolish and amateurish for not being able to do a deal for a player they went out of their way to convince to come to them whilst under contract.

C4 said yesterday that it was his gut feel only.
My gut feel has always a been he will end up a Blue. It makes perfect sense for us. Carlton supporter as a kid. Very close mates with JSOS and many of the other boys. Close with Voss from his Port days. And our defenders being our oldest line with us needing to start planning for life outside Newman, Sadd etc without throwing our kids to the wolves and staying in the premiership window. We are playing the whole ‘interested but not that interested’ line in the media mainly out of respect to Port but also to preserve our 1st pick this year. You know we’re pretty damn keen and I think even how the players have talked about him, it will happen. They’ve clearly been asked by list management if they want him so discussions are deep.

They just further clarified the earlier statement by Hannebery. Tom Morris has just outlined pretty much the exact trade scenario above that leaves us with 12 and 14. Mentioned we could then split one into two picks and give them to Port. Hannebery again saying based on the "rumblings" that Carlton are very confident

Plenty of different scenarios being discussed, trade value based on who is paying what

Barrass has being playing WC for a number of years, they finally called his bluff
