You see contracted players getting drafted all the time. Otherwise they’d be free agents or delisted.

He hasn't requested a trade. The club isn't shopping him. The buyer has approached us. It changes the equation.

Why would we trade Kemp for Pick #30 (a pick that may very well be swallowed up by a Ben Camporeale pick) when he is contracted to our football club for next season and is an important player to our structure. As a contracted player, we need to be compensated at a level we desire to trade him away, and that is far greater than #30, and for my mind at least in the range of #15-20.

Also, they were working through an extension last I heard.

I understand why Saints wouldn't want to pay more than 32 & 45, and maybe that'd be the starting point if Kemp was uncontracted and wanted to leave, but that is not the case. The deal has to be worth doing for Carlton, especially since you have left it so late in the trade period.
