Brad Ebert asks to be traded to Port

If a few more players like M. Clark and Toovey fall through to the PSD, then we're just about guaranteed to be able to take Ebert in the PSD. So let's hope that they do.

On Ebert though, I hear people say he'd be a walk-up to our best 22. But would he?

B: J. Surjan, A. Carlile, T. Logan
HB: T. Chaplin, J. Trengove, D. Motlop (or Pittard if we lose Motlop)
C: D. Pearce, D. Cassisi, H. Hartlett
HF: Brett Ebert, J. Westhoff, R. Gray
F: M. Banner, J. Butcher, J. Schulz
R: M. Lobbe, T. Boak, D. Rodan
Int: S. Salopek, P. Stewart, M. Thomas
Sub: J. Pittard (Or O'Shea if we lose Motlop)

The non-italicized players are all clearly ahead of Ebert, and the italicized players are arguably ahead of Ebert.

good lord are you kidding me?
you think pittard, carlisle and lobbe and rodan are better than Brad?
And banner, oshea (LMFAO) logan arguably ahead of him?
what planet are you on GoPower?
Mate, most of these players are duds. D.U.D.S
The sooner we wake up to this the sooner we'll trade and draft our way to a better list. Never mind the incompetent coach

Here's mine
BOLD = are better than him
RED = will be better than him

I think too many people over-rate our list
Brad Ebert would be a top 4 player if he was on our list this year and we would want inside pick 25 for him if he wanted to leave

The truth lies somewhere in between gopower and boydman's posts.

Brad Ebert will be absolutely without a doubt a starter for us. Suggesting otherwise is like being one of those Collingwood supporters who can't seem to fit Judd in their team because "well he wont displace Swan, Ball, Pendles or Daisy and can he play Blair's role? I don't think he can because Blair is perfect for that role".

He'd be a significant upgrade on Matt Thomas for starters.

Absolutely. I see him as versatile, and capable of playing on a flank, either forward or in defence, on a wing, or even as a midfielder. He's a couple of steps up in class when compared to Matt Thomas.

His best spot is probably half forward, where we had him, because it allows him to take a mark from time to time and he's a pretty underrated defensive forward.

After that, he's a decent onballer. Averaged about 19 touches last year playing that role. He's a big mid so he could end up really excelling as an extractor. The potential there is great.

I've seen us pop him on the wing for small periods this season but he doesn't have the game for it. Not amazingly fast and well below average with his agility and balance.

On a side note - a lot of people will say his skills are shocking but they're actually passable these days. He's still prone to a shocking mistake on the odd occasion and because his skills were so poor in 2010 people tend to harp on these errors more than they should. Also, sometimes he gets caught in the headlights a bit when he has to think quickly but you'd think that would cease when he gets a bit older.

On the plus side, he'll work his arse off, he'll never squib, he'll dive for balls no sane player would, he'll block and tackle and he'll take a mark he has no right to take, every now and again.

I don't think we've ever tried him at half back and I think his agility would see him exposed there but who knows.

Enjoy.

nr28. Swap Thomas for D-Rod and you have yourself a team.

Yeah nah. Ebert's arrival might spell the end for Thomas TBH.

If there was ever proof that you judge Port players more harshly than other players, this is it. The suggestion that Hartlett isn't better than Ebert doesn't even deserve a response.

Although I do like that your second line seems to be suggesting dropping Carlile or Lobbe for Ebert :D Hope he learns to play full back or ruck in the pre-season.

Seems to be half the problem though, getting the guys firing all at the same time rather than some out of form, some in form.. I can understand the frustration - especially after our season in 2010.

Hopefully Motlop has 1 or 2 seasons left there.

I just wish we would offer him another contract and see how it goes (1 year). He isn't worth much on the trade table so there is no point in shopping him around.

Motlop is much better than some of the players we have given contracts to over the last 2 years.

There's talk that we've offered Pettigrew a contract FFS

If Pettigrew stays and Motlop is delisted, heads need to roll.

This is exactly what I'm talking about.

No one can justify giving Pettigrew a contract over Motlop, unless Motlop has done further things off the field that none of us know about, which I honestly doubt.

Disgusting
