Jackson isn’t really just a ruck though, is he? He takes marks around the ground, and has actually said he wants to play midfield in time.

By adding Grundy to Gawn, on current form, it’s like getting a second but less talented Gawn. Their strengths don’t complement each other so much as overlap.

I don’t think Melb see it that way.

Grundy with his huge tank, will play more Ruck time than Jackson, and is therefore an upgrade, thus allowing Gawn to play more fwd minutes.
Not sure allowing Gawn more Fwd minutes is a backward step.
In fact it covers some of the fwd issues that beset them currently.

Yeah its a bit different drifting forward as a ruckman and taking a few grabs as it is being an actual key forward where they'll have a matchup for you. Having said that, Gawn is an awesome contested mark, but his kicking is woeful for a key forward

I wasn't present for a couple of years full stop when Grundy's reported 7 year, 7 million dollar contract was negotiated.
Can someone please bring me up to speed as to whether Grundy's manager unreasonably held the club to ransom somewhat to command said deal?
If the dealings at the time were strained at all between player & club?
If another club/s had openly & genuinely made similar offers? Adelaide clubs for e.g.
As a DFA he was going to walk and we matched an offer?

From memory it was one of the more tense negotiation, with Grundy maybe going back to Adelaide. The agent and Grundy definitely fought hard and the club struggled. Then again, he was our best player or in the top 3 players at the club, so it seemed like overs but not by much. I remember thinking: five years is reasonabl, but this is too much.
