I rate Bucks so I'll take that. He could probably work a little on the relationship side of things though.:p

I like Bucks and agree.

There is still room for some sentimality or credits in the bank if you want to call it that. For instance getting a bloke to a 100 games or picking an out of form player for his long term team mates milestone game. Sure it may seem insignificant but that 'relationship' stuff can make a difference in club 'vibe', performance and player retention/attraction IMO.

The best teams have something that goes beyond professionalism and ensuring Boyd plays that Murphy game informs that IMO.

I don't think we'd be carrying him in regardless and personally I think the wins are more important at this stage. I think we are a better chance to win with him playing, so he plays if I'm picking the side.

Sentimentality works when the time is right. If we were out of finals contention last year, Will would have been given a chance to farewell. He wasn't for obvious reasons.

But IS Crammers MATCH fitness that great ? I don't think it is. Availability of our diminishing big man stocks may mean he has to play regardless

Playing over 250 games together is so different to being great mates off field
I think his fitness is fine, I think his form and touch is ordinary, the two are quite different.

It is different but the club is above everyone and everything. If we've got someone fit to play that can contribute more than M. Boyd is at the moment, which I'd hazard a guess that we do, then he shouldn't play.

Fully understand now the club's reluctance to give him another year last year. Has been a phenomenal contributor for our club over a long period of time but I think he's gone one year too long.

I did say MATCH fitness which includes the things you agree he is lacking, "touch and form". His aerobic fitness is fine but is his hip 100% ? I think we both agree that the availability of others will determine whether he is recalled or has another VFL hitout with 90% game time

Cmon mate, absolute bullshit

Marcus Adams was responsible for those goals, not Biggs late in the game last week, Adams doesn't kick down the line in the third, goes across the face and ***** up, goal Freo, he nearly did the same thing just before 3 quarter time also but was saved by the siren.

Last quarter Biggs gets a bad bounce in the back pocket, Adams is too busy worrying about his opponent rather than mopping up after Biggs and Walters IIRC swooped and goaled. If someone like Morris was helping out then he would've won the footy and cleared that or put Biggs out into space. Adams has a long way to go with his footy smarts/decisions.

Biggs is not a good one on one player under the high ball, but he gives the team plenty of grunt. Was one of our best against Sydney imo where his strengths were utilised more being able to tidy up behind the ball regularly when we pressed high up the field instead of sitting in deep defence which doesn't suit him.

While Biggs may have turned the ball over early on in the prelim, his grunt and second efforts definitely helped, anything constructive he did ended up being influential for us that night imo.
That's fair.

I am not going to put myself through the pain of rewatching the Freo game, but it was my recollection that Biggs made three crucial errors that resulted in goals to Freo. They weren't all in the last quarter. The bounce you're referring to is one, but I do agree with you that Adams should have done more in that situation also. Like you say, if it was the experienced cool head of Morris, or even someone like Murph or Wood in place of Adams, then it's likely the ball would have been cleared by one of our defenders (perhaps Biggs).

He definitely isn't a great one on one player and does his best work when he is working hard to create space and run/carry. I would like to see him get forward a bit more like Sucking and Murphy have been doing because he can kick a goal when given the opportunity (opening goal v Sydney last year comes to mind).

I feel a bit the same. I've been pretty surprised at the flack Biggs has got for his game last week. I thought he was good until at least mid 3rd quarter. Walters hadn't done anything and Biggs spent a lot of time with him. Of course the end of his game was pretty bad, but it wasn't a shockingly terrible performance that some people are making it out to be I don't think.

I'd say he's first in line to be recalled.

There should be a separate thread for M Boyd.
Yes Getting slower
Too many turnovers
Holding reserve players back.
ALSO one of the few that holds crucial marks overhead.(which is why we are getting slaughtered without Roughy and Morris.)
Mabye we should start planning around him.
So who can take his role?.IMO only Mitch Wallis

Massive selection headaches for the committee this week is none of injured the players get up for it.

My slightly left field suggestion;

Out: Cloke, T.Boyd
In: Lipniski, L.Young (2nd ruck, CHB)

With all our tall forwards now injured Cordy has to go forward again, which opens the door for a KPD to come in. Haven't seen too much of Lewis yet but he reportedly went ok on the weekend and to be frank, there aren't too many other tall options. He'd be closer to being physically ready than English anyway.

If Crameri is fit enough to play I would bring him in for Cloke.. otherwise I'd either bring Caleb in or give Lipinski a crack.

Smith and Dunkley were underwhelming for mine but they'll get another chance before a big clash against GWS.

Not sure how long M.Boyd is going to last in this 22 but don't think he'll be dropped just yet.

This does seem like a good game to bring English in. Doesn't have to do the bulk of the ruckwork and can float around as a high half forward and get a few touches few the midfield. Wouldn't be playing on a gun backman either.

Could someone please provide a guy in Perth with no VFL access a bit of a run down as to what sort of role Lipinski plays in the 2's and how it would translate into the 1's? :$
