Isn't Preuss injured? I thought he missed the werribee game on the weekend.
Zurhaar probably deserves an upgrade for Ahern according to many of the werribee watchers, but put Zurhaar in the middle on the weekend and he would have been in for a baptism of fire.
I wouldn't have picked Thomas but in hindsight I'm glad he was picked.
Swallow was good. Better than he has been early in the season. Made some real errors tho.
But here's the thing. For the last 2 weeks he has had 11 tackles and 7 clearances. Is Zurhaar gonna do that? Is Preuss a canny enough ruckman to not have his taps sharked by Ablett (or the rest of a midfield that would actually be significantly better without him in it.) Is Zurhaar capable of doing that at an AFL level against the Suns with only an injured Ziebell there to really help him out? And if he isn't then how are the rest of our recent debutants gonna get the ball? (Especially in the last half with no Lindsay Thomas on the backline to generate so much drive.)
If we can't get the ball out of contests then it isn't development ... or even "playing the kids to see what they can do" because they won't have an opportunity to show what they can do.

It doesn't really matter if swallow or Thomas are more immediately effective then a young player.
What matters is the list development, which is non existent as long as you play blokes like swallow or Thomas who are very washed up, ahead of our untried kids.
You are assuming that you'll get better results out of swallow or Thomas, but you don't actually know.

This is a pretty damning stat really - granted we can't go 'all in' on kids but to be sitting here after the half way mark, in 17th place, and we are still an 'old' team is not great news at all.
It's a flat out disgrace
North just does not have the cattle for AFL.....players or coaches, yes for VFL level, very little indication that sackings were justified......hardly a flicker.

Hibberd, Mountford, Clarke and Wagner all played on the weekend. That is a whole draft intake (minus injuries) from 2 years ago.
Only one of them played better than Swallow and Thomas, one probably played as well as Thomas and the other two didn't. Zurhaar is on our rookie list. Until he gets upgraded he can't even be picked.
Simpkin .... should he have come straight back into the seniors?
