Meaningless...

It's actually quite sad to see Ablett sitting there nervously, sweating, teeth clenched and so desperate for Brownlow glory. It's pathetic really.

If he stayed at Geelong, he'd probably be leading them to a premiership in 2013

He says over and over about making the finals next year with Gold Coast, but it's hollow words.
It's quite obvious he is playing for personal glory and this is what motivates him

It's quite sad to see such a talented footballer lose sight of what football is really about.

People say he was the best footballer this year, maybe of all time, but I don't rate him. He's just a kick-chasing glory-seeker playing for a crap team. His individual awards are completely meaningless.
Where's the challenge in that? Geelong win the premiership almost every second year lately. He'd already done it twice.
To lead a bunch of kids from nothing to finals and ultimately a premiership would be the ultimate achievement.

I'd be more concerned about Fremantle this Saturday if I were you or did you just wake up shitty?

Holy shit.. I'm glad I never have to meet you in person. The only thing pathetic here is you.

Serious question - could he win it playing out of a forward pocket?

If the Suns are dominating in his twilight he could well average 25 touches and kick 60 goals.

With his name value he could miss on the 3 but jag 1 or 2 every week and finish on 25 odd votes that way.

Doubtful, history says you need to have about 5 or 6 games where you poll 3 votes.

I have heard some shit in my time, but that is up there with the best of it. #Flog

Its possible, but IMO less likely. To date GAJ has had the luxury of not really having anyone taking votes away from him on a consistent basis, unlike Swan / Pendelbury, and Selwood / Johnson this year. As GC improves as a team, expect the O'Meara's, Bennell's, Dixon's et al to "pinch" votes on a regular basis.

How pathetic !!!!

Should have 3 (Bartel one) and Thompson cost him the 2012 one with his stupid positional moves once he'd decided to go to Essendon which also cost Geelong that flag. Can definitely see winning another one, as much due to where he rests and how dangerous he is up forward, possession will drop to 30, but if he keeps kicking a couple of goals on top of that will continue to poll well.

Worst post in the history of bigfooty.

Odds are against him, only eight players have won beyond the age of 30.

Age of multiple winners, with games played after their last medal:

Year|Player|Gms|Age
\1928|Warne-Smith, Ivor|64|30y312d
\1935|Bunton, Haydn|36|24y68d
\1938|Reynolds, Dick|224|23y72d
\1953|Hutchison, Bill|67|30y127d
\1954|Wright, Roy|69|25y190d
\1968|Skilton, Bob|39|29y299d
\1974|Greig, Keith|210|22y314d
\1984|Moore, Peter|39|27y257d
\1994|Williams, Greg|48|30y361d
\1998|Harvey, Robert|180|27y31d
\2006|Goodes, Adam|145*|26y260d
\2010|Judd, Chris|61*|27y12d
\2013|Ablett junior, Gary|0*|29y132d

Reckon he will get one more and well deserved. Also think all the previous winners in last 5 years have been fantastic players, so not undeserving. But he might want to get it soon because other GC's players will start getting votes, and other teams will start to take GC seriously now and so it will get tougher.

I think 2010 is the classic Ablett year. Everyone was keen on Dane Swan and Judd came from nowhere to win it, with Ablett runner-up. All season there'd been speculation about Ablett going to GC, his damaged relationship with Geelong, being forced to play 'out of position' in the forward line, how everything was affecting the team and so on.

I think people look at that as a relatively 'down' year from Ablett. Then you look at the numbers he put up and wonder 'How the hell did he not win the AFLPA MVP, the Brownlow and Geelong's B&F as well that year?' And that was when he (in all likelihood) knew he was going to Gold Coast and could have just gone through the motions. Instead he practically killed himself right up to the last game. A true professional.

I'd be very happy to see him win his third, or to go alone on four. And if he does that, as well as leading Gold Coast to a premiership (his third), he's a sure-fire HOF Legend, as far as I'm concerned.

Whether it was fake or not, he was holding out for the 2 votes.

But yes, it is meaningless. Who honestly gives a stuff? Ablett is the same player he was before last night.

Unless he actually hates Selwood, he definitely would have been happier with the two votes, I reckon. Even if it was Joe Blow that he's never even met, rather than an ex-premiership teammate, I think he'd have preferred the two votes. He gets the same recognition (the overdue - some would even say five years overdue - second Brownlow), but do half the heavy-lifting, with regards to the post-award media (something that I think it's fair to say Ablett never has and never will enjoy). I reckon Ablett's preference would be to win in a five-way tie every year.

He still does not look comfortable in front of the camera. And I heard him interviewed three times last night and he said exactly the same things, almost as though he had a rehearsed set of responses.

Nah. Could have won it in those years, but not should. That's just stretching the truth.

He should have won it, hot favourite in 07, 08 and 12. And in 2010 put up the most ridiculous numbers for a midfielder I've ever seen. How one averages 33 disposals and kicks 44 goals in a season holy heck.

2011 is the only questionable one, but he was still the best player in the comp that year.
