I love Max and i know he wants to be an inside mid but tonight proves that for at least the rest of this year he should be a 70/30 Wing/Inside player.

Was his best game for ages(yes i know injuries).
Importantly we can only do this when all of Dangerfield, Blicavs, Atkins and Bruhn are all in full flight. I still think we need his burst from stoppages as well, but a 70/30 or 60/40 split works best.

To put the game to bed, before quarter time, against a so-called contender has rekindled the fire in the faithful and has us knocking on the door of the Top 4.
It was a vulgar display of power.

Early in the week Brad Scott made a point of saying that the Bombers would not be underestimating Gryan Miers and Brad Close, implying that the two smalls might be in for a little extra attention.
Both were superb in the 1st quarter; along with Jack Henry they, as much as anyone, set the tone early on.

Similarly, the ridiculously named Brandon Zerk-Thatcher announced to the media pre-game that he relished a rematch with Tom Hawkins, who absolutely pansted him earlier this year. He should be careful what he wishes for, as the young fool was once again given a football lesson.

Tanner Bruhn's accelerated evolution throughout 2023 couldn't have come at a better time; Bruhn has elevated his output just as our midfield depth was being probed. Bruhn has also gradually revealed himself to be one of our most dual-sided mids this side of Buddha Hocking. His left foot is both an escape hatch and an architect for angle alteration.

Duncan has found some touch and form, thankfully. He is creaky, but he has dug deep in recent weeks.
Isaac Smith looked better for the spell, too.

5 - Mark Blicavs - statistically might not have been as good as some, but his two-way game was irresistible
4 - Gryan Miers - was everywhere in the 1st half; kicked a great goal early on and linked up with creativity all over the ground
3 - Tom Atkins - hard as a cat's head. His work rate is first rate.
2 - Tom Hawkins - reports of his decline have been exaggerated. Sublime forward craft tonight.
1 - Max Holmes - found time and space with quick reactions all night long. Career high disposals.
‘An architect of angle alteration’ - in a forum where ’there/their’ drives me nuts, not to mention ’should of’, this was a tasty piece of alliteration and writing craft. Well played.

Great game from OHenry tonight.

Really looked a lot more a cog in the wheel in our game plan defensively and offensively tonight.

Only got the two tackles but he harassed and put on pressure around the ball carrier and forced turnovers and poor kicks down the line.

Loved his work!!
Great? Wow …

So other than a managed player I think we saw our finals team tonight - 2E not Sav in case you were wondering!

To me 2E comes into the 22 and O Henry goes to sub (Mullin misses 23). I don’t think Sav is in for finals and can’t count on C Gurthrie getting back.

If no injuries then I think that is the team? A 23 that can get on a role and win B2B

I think henry on form should be in the 22-id put oconnor or bowes to sub with tuohy in for mullin.

Otherwise thats my 23 too.

Bews will probably come back for charlie cameron specifically next week if fit but i think he misses the side for finals.

In that scenario sav bews menegola and knevitt are your emergencies which is decent depth everywhere except ruck.
(I have dempsey and parfitt and simpson a bit behind those guys).

Real talk for a moment:

As enjoyable as it was we need to back up and win on the road next week.

Now THAT would get us back on track.

Yeah in the light of Sunday morning you're absolutely right CE.

Good win on our home deck, but somewhat expected.

Those road wins are the truer indication of how fit a club is to challenge the best...

Strangled the sh*t out of them defensively, then dismantled them when we had the ball. It was right up there with the first GF rematch as our most complete performance all season.

All three lines were dominant and the way we used the greasy ball was generally outstanding. Honestly, it is hard to pick a bad player, a real team effort. Axe was excellent in the middle, Max looked like the Max of early this year and late last year, although his ball use was sloppy at times. Bruhn continues to improve each week and having the ability to managed PFD could be crucial once we get to September.

We look like we're starting to click, but I won't be completely convinced until we either beat Brisbane or push them right to the end, as to be fair, we beat up on two young and developing sides, so it's hard to gauge just where we're at. Next week will do that.

I had pretty much lost hope for this year.
While it’s still a pretty tough ask, that performance could be the spark.
Ruthless high pressure football.
Can’t believe I’m saying this but we look fit and strong.
Brisbane will be nervous watching that.

I've said it a few times this year but it bears repeating: arguably THE key to our success is having Blicavs and Atkins in beast mode at the same time while both of our jets: new (Holmes) and old (Dangerfield) are in full flight by their side.

That mixture of ingredients has rarely been present this year mostly to unfortunate circumstance, but when it is we look very, very good.

Watch out if the forward line all show up together as well. Add early season Jezza back to the rest of them who have all found form now, would be total carnage.

Has anyone else wondered how Blitz would go if we played him forward for a whole game, or is it just me?
It’s the only role in which he’s struggled at all in the past, especially goal kicking and positioning, but has been a weapon and target forward at times this year. Seems to always get marks heading into the left pocket and snaps around corner on left foot. I assume it’s a result of him working hard to get in behind from midfield and his opponents trailing him in for endurance. What an asset!

Agreed.

Form wise it was Cameron and Miers on song the first 3 weeks. Cameron, Miers, Hawkins and Close round 4-8 (coincidentally one of our best stretches). Then add in Stengle from his round 10 return and Rohan from round 12 - but Cameron fell well out of form during this time and then essentially missed two matches, with last night a bit of a haphazard one. O.Henry pretty steady throughout.

Despite all that and with some eyebrow raising midfield line ups, we rank 2nd in the comp for points scored. We have easily the most potent forward line in the comp if all players are in form.
