Review Cats keep 20+ year Crows drought at KP going with 26 point win.

Sav had a prototypical Darcy Moore game yesterday.

Lots of contests, plenty of possessions, a few highlight reel spoils…..and his direct opponent kicks 3 goals.

Like with Darcy, you take the good with the bad.

I wonder if Max Gawn would consider the break glass emergency 4th ruck job at geelong next season.

With our injuries, 2-2 over next 4 would be a good result.
The GWS game is already in the books, that ones a gimme.

So winning just one out of the Tiges, Freo (away) and the Dogs who are all out of the 8 whilst being a realistic possibility, it’s probably not a good result.

So in golf terms I’d rate it (not that it matters what I rate things).

2 - 2 is more acceptable par/bogey range
3 - 1 would be good/birdie.
4 - 4 would be great/eagle.

The next two is going to be pretty important for our top 2/4 chances IMO.

Freo in Perth and Bulldogs at Marvel are the two danger games. We do have an incredible record against the latter though and could have some players back. 3 is par for me from this fixture list. Win all 4 and our primary midfield of Blicavs, Holmes and Atkins has performed very well - which I think they can.

The Crows got a few goals taking marks more or less unattended round centre half forward, which suggests to me the defence is still not quite on song.

Otherwise it was a good win against a good team. Knevitt surprised me - again he looks better in the seniors than VFL. Esava's marking is a weapon. Close's decision-making was a bit off. Duncan is as slow as a wet week but is still important. Atkins played his best game for the year. The skinny left-footers are remarkable.

Bruhn has sparked some debate I see. I think he will continue to improve. I'm of the school that thinks a mid should be able to approach 20 approx touches with average game time. But I also recognise that we won a flag without huge possession winners. Cam Guthrie, Stewart and Danger probably averaged 20 + - any more? Maybe Isac Smith.

We'll drop a game soon unless some players return, but we can afford to do so after 5 on the trot..

Ideally guthrie comes back in to assist in the midfield, but if not we probably need blicavs spending a fair bit of time on the ball to provide a big strong body around the stoppages. His influence and effectiveness has been huge in and around there.

I also noted dangerfield had no ice on his hammy?? Which is interesting if they genuinely believed it was a hammy.
Not so- he did ice it sitting on the bench

If we beat Richmond next week I'll eat my hat. And I'll film it.

Well, it seems like the dark days of round 1 - 3 are behind us. Feeling relieved, I thought maybe Gary Hocking might have to change his name to “Whiskers” again!

He didn't even try which most likely was instructions to get him through a full 4 quarters.

Its because he has to play at the G and then go to perth back to back (bigger grounds more running) which we nornally would have rested him from but we cant as the other rucks are injured. As you say they are probably prepping for it which is why he didnt play a full game the week before in the vfl.

Ceglar was ok. Competed well in the ruck and was competent around the ground in general play.

However, his second efforts at stoppages were non existent and cost us big time on a few occasions. Once the ball hit the ground at a clearance he is a statue and as the game wore on he stopped even trying to get involved with a second effort. Makes you appreciate how hard Stanley and Blitz compete until the very end of the clearance.

I can never question his effort to crash picks and some of his hitouts to space were actually really good positionally (the mids just didnt read them as they havent played enough together). I dont think he ever stops trying to run its just that he has no speed or agility to keep up with other players in transition. This will be harder to hide on the bigger ground so our coaches will have to work out how to coach our defence around it.

I thought Issac Smith upped the ante when Paddy went down.
I thought exactly the same which is why he worked his way into my votes. If we didn't match Crows run and drive we were cooked that second half. Smith wasn't without error but he did impose himself on the contest and I thought was one of a few who set the tone.

The one he put down Paddy's throat at a center bounce was superb.

I thought Ceglar was good. A wet day at KP is going to be his best option.

Although Optus is a bigger ground. He’s an ok match up for big Darcy, but Jackson would be a challenge if up and running.

He's gone if a slo-mo shows the head hitting the ground
Doesn’t help when you have Kelli Underwood (a crows supporter) screaming “that’s a dangerous tackle!” when the replay is shown.
Despite the other commentators thinking there’s nothing in it.

Excellent hard fought win yesterday,
but .... "Kelli Underwood" was annoying as hell during the entire game.
I dunno, I thought her poignant question to her fellow commentators about who was the bigger loss between Patrick Dangerfield and Nick Murray to be fascinating.
