On a cold, rainy and windy day it would just set Tariek up for failure...

I'm waiting to see if any players wear long sleeves...;)

Good point. Lets be successful.

Lets keep in the player who has the defined role of "not scoring goals". Much easier to tick off KPI's that way.

I'm renewing my call on Pedlar this week.

4 goals and will get in the rising star nomination discussion.

BTW, Pedlar had 5 shots on goal last week. for 2.2 and a top of the square kick. I wasn't that far off!
I suspect given that he has been suspended and hence ineligible to win the award, the judges will give preference to one still eligible; even though suspended players may still be given a nomination.
Which is why I suspect the AFL told us not to challenge his suspension, because they wanted to make sure a first year player won the Rising Star.

Perhaps a controversial view - but I’m happy to go unchanged this week if the philosophy is to not debut or inject a young kid into a match like this where we’re likely to get a touch up. I want the heat on those who have been playing to perform. And if they don’t, then they go out next week when we’re back home and it’s a much more manageable hime game for the kids that come in.

Although I doubt the above is the philosophy.

Don’t know if I’m all there but I think we have a decent chance tomorrow for some reason

Gotta win there some time
I wasn't going to say this out loud, but.. Yes, I've been allowing myself the same thoughts... So much of it is going to come down to head space / attitude.
In his new role, Keays has improved his awareness, composure, candy-selling and ball distribution. He has high value in ball movement links, as above. There was a time that he probably would have kicked forward (blindly) both times, but I think he's smarter now. Not long before that, Keays' intelligent chip-kick to Pedlar resulted in a goal.
+1 to this. IMO he's always been good value in the contest, because of the way he always strives to move the ball forward / to advantage by any means, even if it's a soccer kick or a punch/slap, but he's improved on that.

A bit surprised ....Ned hasn't played a lot of footy ....thought Parnell would have got the nod

If that happens it will mean Matt won't have played any competitive footy for 3 weeks, you'd have to question his game management if that's the case?

I seriously doubt Sheezel and Ashcroft are in any danger of not winning the award. So there's no risk there

Yup, I would be more than happy to eat some chocolate late tomorrow arvo. It will be much better than the egg on the face that some will have if the Crows win or are not smashed out of Kardinia as some here have so despairingly assured us has already been determined. Just because we haven't won over there for 20 years doesn't mean we can't or won't tomorrow. As they say in they bush during a drought 'every day it doesn't rain is a day closer to the day when it will rain'. I think the time is getting ripe for us to rain on their parade!

We’re capable of playing some good footy for long patches. And we have a full list to choose from whereas cats have some best 22 missing. I’m not saying it’s the best time to catch them but it’s probably the best opportunity we’ll have this year.

I think we’ll give a decent account of ourselves. But I understand the pessimism having started well the 2 years prior and then dropped right off. If you were going to script a continuation of the last 2 years then Cats at cat park would be forefront of mind in terms of the game that removes the wheelnuts.

What will be interesting is to see whether we revert to the defensive style as we have done the previous 2 years and did in the final quarter last week.

That's an interesting take. Smart.
Do you think Nicks et al are smart enough to do that? Requires planning and thinking ahead re our youth :sneaky:.

Thats fine - but its a double edge sword.

If you are not debuting a youngster for fear of a touch up - why are we wasting a week on Tex/Sloane when we could be resting them?

Sounding like there might be a late change in store for the Cats. They'll be looking to tag the bejesus out of Dawson too.

That's going to be the new normal going forward though. Teams aren't too worried about getting beaten by Laird, Sloane, Keays, shut down Dawson and we don't have the class to cover.
