I don't think McEntee will come straight back in. Does the 12 days off include training? If so Saturday would be his first day back right? Would rather he play at least a game of Sanfl first or even just sit out this week, it's not like we're low on choices and he was puss before he got concussed against West Coast anyway.
He's pus every week, that's never stopped us picking him before.

He had a strong preseason so I didn't mind him getting a game rd 1 but yeah he's been a bit anonymous for us, we have other options now, especially with MG back. Should be break glass in case of emergency unless he smashes it at Sanfl level. The coaches must see something we don't. Or he has some incriminating photos stashed away.

Pains me to say it (and maybe it's because I only saw your second half yesterday) but I think your mob are building pretty nicely at the moment and this season is going to be your best shot at it. This week against the Dees should be a good test but if May and Lever are out then it's one you should be winning.

It looks like BZT and Ratagolea have delivered what you needed to stiffen up the defence; you've got enough key forwards (Marshall, Dixon, Georgiadis, Finlayson plus others) that you can afford to rotate them through to keep them fresh and fighting for positions; Soldo looked more effective in ruck than I'd given him credit for and you've got depth with guns like JHF, SPP to still come back in.

You need to capitalise now whilst you've got a fresh squad and lock in a top 4 possie and then hope that the emerging champion qualities of Rozee, Butters and JHF is enough to overcome the inadequacies of Hinkley as coach.
Lots of that is reasonable, but reality is our defence looks pretty brittle at the moment and is conceeding scores easily. BZT definitely a good find, but he's probably not a noticeable improvement on McKenzie. Ratagolea needs more time, but we haven't got the balance right in the air yet and the ball is hitting the ground too often with our defenders getting hurt as they attempt to mop up the crumbs.

The one thing that is opening up currently is that the Lions and Collingwood are down, but geez we have a lot to prove still to show we're capable of making top 4. We've played possibly 2 bottom 4 sides so far so we haven't learnt much yet.

I'm really looking forward to that absolute slime bag Fritsch destroying us.

im really worried about our transition defense, i saw a stat the read that port has allowed the oppostion to transition from D50 to goals (this happend last year quite frequenlty aswell, not to this extent tho) the most of any team to start the season for over a decade. secondly, i am also pretty concentred about our small defender stocks, we allow opposition small forwards to kick goals on us way too easy. we allow this to happen against the dees, we will struggle. You may know Daniel hoyne who joins kane and Gerard on SEN, he proved that these credientials are both concerning and put a ceiling on how far in september we can go.

It’s round two and why we’ve leaked out the back goals, there’s still plenty to tweak and I haven’t seen a premier done and dusted in round 2 of any season.

The worry is the kozzie matchup

not sure burton can go with him, jones is too fumbly under real pressure..maybe its BZT although I like him on Fritsch

other than that we should be winning this at home on the big stage, even tho our coach isn't looking forward to it
Kozzie is a tough matchup for sure

I'm pleased with Zerk-Thatcher so far. He's been tight, won one on ones against good opponents (Lynch and Oscar Allen) and makes good decisions with the ball. He's also freed Aliir to be the intercept player he's so good at being. Burton was shown up as being unsuitable to play on Hawthorns zippy smalls. Lachie Jones has been better in his defensive efforts so far but he's still spooked when trying to gather a ground ball or take possession under pressure. Hopefully Lachie gets more composure and confidence soon because he is the quickest defender we have who is an AFL regular.
Our achilles heal for years has is our inability to control quick, skilled small forwards. This is my main team concern at this stage.

We really need Burton and Jones to do this

I don't think anyone has put this on the agenda yet but Bergman has been pretty underwhelming to start the season. He'd want to lift his game pretty quickly because there's a big selection squeeze with the likes of Burgoyne, Mead and even Boak towards the bottom of the 23.

Re changes for this weeks game I doubt JHF will come up for selection, and Rioli and Lachie Jones would have to be in doubt as well, but the definite loss to the dees of May and the probable loss of Lever should balance that out.

With Jones, I still believe that in the long term with his pace and body strength he could be the lock down defender for the Kozzie and Cameron types that we have lacked at AFL level for a very long time, but he has to learn when not to attack the ball, particularly when it is in the air as when he muffs it and it gets over the back leaving blokes like them in free space will result in a score every time.

When he does leave his opponent he has to either mark the ball, or kill the contest by smashing it over the boundary line.

Are ya jokin? Look at what this man has done for us already this year

What’s wrong with Rioli?

A quality lockdown smaller defender would be handy. Burton, Farell, Jones worry me when thrown on quality smalls.
Burton cannot play on smalls. He gets destroyed.
