Nelson is quicker than Hutch, why not keep Nelson in to help check the Freo smalls?

Out Shep (cork, should not have played), Waterman (Rested)
In Jetta and Petreccelle.
We are a tad too tall and giving Waterman and Shep a week to freshen up is smart.
Playing Shep and making him fly was dumb.......PLAIN DUMB. Something we do too regularly.
I bet we will play Shep v Freo and he wont last the game with that cork he's carried for two weeks now.
When will we learn.

Given a lot of slack by the match committee. Hoping Ainsworth takes his position. Really need more mids in the squad though....

This ... need speed, ex-factor and skill in the forward half to replace what we lost in Ryan an Venerables. Would also like to see Watson in - Redden, Hutchings, Waterman out and perhaps Nelson. Waterman only because we are too tall forward.

Nelson was decent and duggan will come good soon. They both need to be left on a defensive flank to an extended period of time. I’d almost give Barrass and waterman a rest and include Jetta and petruccelle just for the sake of matchups
Playing Shep was a great plan, considering he was in the top 3 on the field for us, the game wasn't a walk in the park where you rest players.
He should play every game he's available if he puts in performances like that.

Freo have dangerous small forwards, so I'm not sure if we should drop Nelson. Hutchings could tag someone like Mundy? Yeo/Fyfe head-to-head please.
Maybe MudJu can be dropped? Forward line looked unbalanced vs Carlton (too tall and slow) and you can't drop Kennedy or Darling.

A hard call to make in the backline. Jetta has been important to us this year but Nelson has been solid on those small forwards and Cole just looks too good to drop. Although it might be as simple as Jetta needing another week off, so no change required.
Time for a bit of Petroleum Jelly to soothe that tall forward line.

Waterman goes out for matchups. Can’t go in too tall with Freo’s smaller lineup and loads of wide open spaces at Optus.

Out Waterman (team balance - we look too tall and slow) - replaced by Petro (raw but has the tools to be damaging and we really need some more speed)
Out Hutchings (if you aren't going to play him on-ball or to tag then don't play him) - replaced by Ah Chee (I assume he has been in full training for weeks but if he needs another game, then Hutch gets a reprieve but plays on-ball/tags). You could argue that Hutch stays and Redden goes instead but the MC seems more likely to drop Hutch (which may be unfair as it wasn't his fault they played him out of position).

Making some assumptions on fitness here:
Out Sheppard (soreness/inj) IN Jetta
Out Waterman (balance) In Petro
Out Hutchings or Redden (cant carry both) IN Ainsworth
If both Hutch and Red out then Sneeze comes in.
If Sheppard plays Jets in for one of hutch or red and Ainsworth bides his time.

I don't think the calls are for him to be dropped based purely on form, more if someone has to make way for Jetta then it's out of Nelson and Duggan. Personally I think Duggan offers more, but there's not much separating them at the moment.

Interestingly there are no calls for Marsten to be rested. I am not a fan of him but he has been good this year.
Hutchings in the forward line is meh. Unless we have a tag for him, he remains as depth and should not be blocking opportunities for Cole, Ainsworth or Parto in the midfield. He still does not hit any contest at pace and corralling is not needed anymore.
The call for Nelson out are misplaced IMHO and he is a perfect match up on Frodo.
I would love us to pick Burrows and match him up on Banfield. Good one for giving feedback to the recruiting team.
