Changes for Round 10 (vs Collingwood)

Outs:

P Burgoyne: His attitude and lack of chasing is like a cancer that effects the whole team. If one player is allowed to get away with it then it lets the entire team know that if they play well enough the other way then thy will get away with it too.

Ebert: Still up and down. The biggest concern I have with him at the moment is his lack of mobility. He seems useless when the ball hits the ground. If we are going to have someone like that in the team they may as well at least be tall.

In:

Meyer/Broadbent: Bring in a running half back and allow Salopek to go onto the ball. We need a midfielder who can both get the hard ball and use it well.

Westhoff: We need another tall in the forward line. Ebert is doing ok but is out of form and possibly unfit. He is alcking the mobility of a true small and lacking the height of a true tall. We already have Mots to play the mid sized forward role.

Re Burgoyne - & yet Peter Rhode was on radio before the game & said that Rodan was omitted because they thought his defensive skills weren't up to scratch... so if it's good enough to omit Rodan, then it should be good enough to omit Burgoyne.

Saying rodan's defensive skills aren't up to scratch and therefore implying peter's are is a ****ing joke.

I don't give a shit what the stats say either.

How many times do you SEE peter lay an effective tackle, or spoil, or wear his man like a glove near the stoppages, let alone chase like his balls are on the line?

The one that annoys me most is where he is just trailing along behing or walking and pointing at his man yelling at soemone else to pick him up for him.

OUT: P Burgoyne, Ebert, Lade, Carr
IN: Broadbent, M Westhoff, Giles, Krakouer

Mate I agree completely. I questioned a few times last week why broadbent wasn't considered. It is now time. If Kane and Salopek are still injured (They were yesterday it was obvious) drop them too and play Lower and P Stewart.

Our senior players are accountable for this dribble. Chad should be on notice also. His influence is needed weekly not monthly.

It just makes me think my comment last year to trade Chad and Shaun was warrented at the moment, because Hartlett, Rich and Hurley )Or Ziebell) would be doing alot better for intensity than Hartlett, Chad and Shaun.

I can't see it happening but those changes would certainly be a step in the right direction.

Lade has given us great service but is having negligible influence on games now so it is time we started giving his possible replacements a go.

As others have said Carr no longer seems to have what it takes to have an impact at AFL level.

I would not drop Logan as some are suggesting.

TBH i can't see the point in dropping Lade - if there was a ruck type player with good SANFL form, then yes, but atm no one is threatening lade's spot

I'd probably drop marlon, thomas and logan and bring in krak, broadbent and meyer.

This should allow sal to have more midfield time.

Gilesy was good in the ruck and up forward when played deep inside the 50. He had 12 possessions, 5 marks and a goal. He looked dangerous forward and has some good pace for a big man on the lead.

Could you honestly say that Lade looked dangerous forward and has some good pace for a big man on the lead?

I'd probably drop ..... thomas and logan and bring in ..... broadbent and meyer. ......
What has Thomas done wrong to warrant replacing him with Broadbent? Meyer is still on the rookie list and I can see the club promoting him just for the hell of it.

Of course not. But he's still the best ruck option we have after brogan. If giles backs up his performance i'd be happy for him to get his debut.

I think meyer and broadbent have both shown great SANFL form. We still have JWess on the LTIL so he can be promoted.

atm i can't see the value of having both carr and thomas in the same team. Thomas got 1 tackle, carr 7 - so i'm sticking with carr this time.

I actually forgot to include matt westhoff in the 22 - not sure if i'd drop ebert or senior burger, probably senior burger as he's only had 1 good game in the last 4 weeks.

He can be promoted but why should he? Is there a definite need for him or are there other players that could play the same role without the additional expense of promoting a rookie?

I believe that the failure of Thompson to show much at AFL level and the club's much publicised financial crisis makes the promotion of another rookie very unlikely.

Thomas and Carr were playing very different roles. I'm not knocking Carr's work at the stoppages, which is where he made the majority of those tackles, but to say that Thomas was less effective because he didn't lay as many tackles yet still restricted Goodes to 18 possessions is unfair.

Ok, fair enough. In that case i'd leave peter burgoyne in 22 without including meyer. As i'd rather not have peter b as sweeper, it looks like sal will continue in the role.

Goodes' average possession count is 20.4 this year. I'm not sure thomas restricted him all that much tbh. Goodes still kicked 2 goals as well. I'm not expecting thomas to be like Kornes where he restricts his opponent and gets 30 touches on his own or like cassisi who is capable of double digits tackles while tagging, but i do expect a better output than 11 disposals and 1 tackle.

Maybe it is unfair, thomas' form lately has mirrored the whole teams' effort.

FWIW this is the team i had in mind:

F Brett Ebert - Matthew Westhoff - Daniel Motlop
HF Robbie Gray - Warren Tredrea - Hamish Hartlett
C Domenic Cassisi - Chad Cornes - Travis Boak
HB Steven Salopek - Troy Chaplin - Nathan Krakouer
B Michael Pettigrew - Alipate Carlile - Jacob Surjan
R Dean Brogan - Kane Cornes - Danyle Pearce

Int Brendon Lade - Peter Burgoyne - Matthew Broadbent - Josh Carr

In: Nathan Krakouer, Matthew Broadbent, Matthew Westhoff
Out: Matt Thomas, Tom Logan, Marlon Motlop

Goodes was down on form early in the season but in the previous two weeks has had 26 and 27 possessions and kicked 2 and 3 goals. On Sunday the average possessions across Sydney's entire 22 was 18. So one of their star players in a game which was little more than a training drill pressure wise only just made the average return for his team. IMHO that is a win for Thomas. :)

IIRC Goodes' first goal was from a pack mark just out from goal over the top of Barry Hall. Goodes is 194 cm tall, Thomas is 184 cm tall. You can hardly blame Thomas for that.

Out: Matt Thomas

Lol wut? He kept a dual Brownlow medallist to 12 touches up until 3 quarter time in a team that was completely outplayed and only let him off of the leash in junk time, what more do you want?

I like the sounds of that ^

Gee Paul Stewart must have done alot wrong over the off-season.

The guy won our best first year player in '08 and time and time again showed the way with courage and desperation, albeit often causing him injury last year.

To my reckoning he hasn't been listed as an emergency yet this year and never seems to be on anyone's radar.

And people here want Danny Meyer in?????????

Get some friggin' desperate players in and not these receiver, nice kicking, half-back flankers.

Personally, I'd have Meyer on Sal's HBF with Sal's excellent vision in traffic in the middle where we're consistently getting pantsed.

Meyer is quicker, better in the air and his disposal is just as good if not better. He's had a huge taste of the AFL system and knows what's required, he's over his injuries and would give more with just as much upside as any one of our current kids.

It's win/win as far as I'm concerned.

If we're not promoting him due to financial concerns, then let's start rattling tins like Melbourne did with Davey 4 or 5 years' back.

Put poor Lower in the midfield. At least give him a try for more than 1 sub-par match against St Kilda when he was no worse than anyone else.

Get rid of P Burg, Ebert, Pearce, K Cornes- mix it up a bit- try the kids- nothing to lose.

Too many passengers who get selected week in and out.

Only change i would make would be Peter out and keep Carr...

Seriously guys Peter is the epitome of lazy football the guy just jogs out of a losing stoppage constantly with the explanation that his clearance work makes up for that well maybe that balance has started to get a bit out of kilter lately...

Oh and Lower in for Surj..... He had FOUR touches this week FOUR! (cue the howling protest of Surj fans)

You seem to contradict yourself a bit there mate. On one hand you want to drop Peter because despite his good posession numbers he doesnt defend well enough. On the other hand you want to drop Surjan who defends desperately but didn't get enough possessions.

That's a bit out of context the argument isn't as simple as peter got touches but did nothing on defense but Surj defended his ass off and got Four touches so we keep Surj is it?

I guess i should declare I think Lower is a better player in that spot! ;) (oh i was only making a statement not trying to start Lower Vs Surj for the tenth time)

Williams could do with a couple of weeks in the SANFL.

Out: Pearce, P.Burgoyne, D.Motlop
In: Anyone who will try their guts out and not fake injury or think twice before going into a contested ball situation or seagull off a pack or play behind his man hoping the ball might go over the back.

On Notice: Choco (five attempts to beat the Swans and five losses - Roos is clearly a superior coach and we need to aim higher than Choco)

i could be completely wrong, you guys would know more about your side than i would but i have gone this way.

Out: Cook, L Brown and Goldsack
In: Medhurst, Reid and Thomas (i dont think Didak will come up, may be given an extra week)

Out: M Motlop
IN: Krakouer

B: O'Brien Prestigiacomo Toovey
F: Ebert Tredrea D.Motlop

HB: Shaw Maxwell Cox
HF: Logan C Cornes Gray

C: Clarke Swan Sidebottom
C: Pearce K.Cornes Hartlett

HF: Lockyer N Brown D Thomas
HB: Salopek Chaplin Krakouer

F: Medhurst Anthony Fraser
B: Surjan Carlile Pettigrew

R: Wood Pendlebury Davis
R: Brogan Cassisi Boak

INT: O'Bree Wellingham Dick Reid

INT: M Thomas Lade P Burgoyne Carr

EME: L Brown Goldsack Dawes

EME: Rodan M Motlop Davenport

i think Logan will play a similar role to the one he played on Hodge in your win against Hawthorn on heath shaw this week

what do you guys think?

You're probably right with those changes - in reality krak will come in and it will likely be at the expense of motlop.

I doubt we'll see any major changes, but stranger things have happened.
