Team balance is key. Presently we have too many samey players in the side that diminish each other.

Blokes that play inside mid and only inside mid: Jordon, Oliver, Sparrow and Viney.

HBFs who are suspect defensively: Bowey and Salem (McVee and Rivers to a lesser extent).

Not quite KPPs: Melksham and Smith

Number one rucks: Gawn and Grundy

On the other hand our only genuine KPD is May and JVR is our only KPF.

We need to rectify this at selection.

In: Verrell, Farris-White, Dunstan, Harmes, BBB, T Mac, Woewodin, Spargo

Out: May, Hunter, Langdon, Rivers, ANB, Pickett, Chandler, McVee, Hibberd
Had me going for a second, nice one.

I think it was JVR in space but he pointed towards goals. I'm not blaming him but Salem is the senior player he should have just hit the pass. I'm thinking JVR was down on confidence because he already missed a few.

I think JVR only pointed to goal once the bellend got too close , was scared of it not being paid 15m

Nope not if you watch it. The bloke calls for it then sees Salem not looking and then points to goals after he realizes Salem isn't passing

Makes sense the moment had passed so was told to just go for it. The ending of the game reminded me of the port game on 2018 lots of bombs inside a flooded 50 just couldn't find a target.

Out: Grundy , Jordan, Salem - tired of this media driven narrative that he's a good kick, he's not damaging and slows rebounds down with his dinky kicks which invite pressure, Bowie - if you're not going to be damaging on the attack you better learn to defend.
In: Hibberd, two of(Spargo/Laurie/Woey, whoever plays best at Casey), Tomlinson.

Smith takes Grundy's forward position.

McVee takes Bowie's more attacking role, he can attack just as well as Bowie but can defend as well.

Hibbo takes McVee's lockdown position.

Tomo frees up Lever.

Brayshaw takes Salem's defensive position, he's a better defender and genuine intercept mark threat. His kicking can be wayward but at least he tries to be inventive and damaging with his kicks.

Viney takes Brayshaw's more defensive midfield role which hopefully keeps him and Oliver from fighting for the same ground ball.

Sparrow gets more midfield time covering Brayshaw.

Spargo/Laurie/Woey replace Jordan, but play half forward with Pickett and Chandler taking Jordan's midfield time. Chandler played big midfield minutes at Casey the last two years and did it well, brings similar energy and attributes as Pickett.

Salem to sub.

Hibbo for Smith who goes to sub.

Tommo for Salem.

Jordon for Woewodin, which gives Kosi more midfield time plus Woey is a better half forward already.

Can’t be bothered discussing which shit tall forward plays but looking forward to Fritsch been back so we at least have the choice of going with none of them.

People laud Lachie Hunter and that’s fair because he’s performed well this season but we need to find a quicker and more penetrating player this off season to replace him on a wing. Think an Isaac Smith type.

Rather a guy who gets 10 less touches but does twice the damage Hunter does. We need a line breaker on the wing more than an accumulator.

On the bright side this is not in Tasmania.

Otherwise this will be a great test of the midfield as I believe Hawks have been doing quite well in this area.

I don't think Grundy will be out though. It seems that their is a mindset that this must work no matter what.

I think Grundy and Jordan are the two weakest players at this point and I would be wary of making more than 2 changes.

Would like to <insert a forward deckchair> in for Grundy and maybe give Dunstan a shot instead of Jordan. I don't know if we will see that though.

We literally gave up on him as a forward at half time and he spent the majority of the second half on the bench.

Grundy will be dropped. Smith or Tmac will be the 2nd tall up forward.

I know we're all desperate for a KPF but people need to remember T Mac was pretty putrid in his games earlier this year. I doubt he'll be our saviour.

I don't think he has done enough to get a call-up is what i should have posted .

What's all this Smith forward talk? Smith sucks. I'm quite happy for him to be sub because he's versatile, but after playing 2 full games it is clear he is not in the best 22.

He’s a specialist sub, only a break glass in case of emergency defender or forward though.

Smith has what could be generously described as 'x-factor'. He's inconsistent, but has just enough crazy to his game that he can bob up for a contested grab or two, a chase-down tackle, an arsey goal. We're not getting much out of the other tall options - may as well gamble with Joel. Tomo back in to free up Lever/May. Anyone for JJ, please.

Imo if it's not Smith or Jefferson just give up on having a second tall down there. What is the point in having one of four blokes who can't move or compete.

Bloody hell, top-four is certainly no gimme now. Hawks are a bloody tough match-up

Only way we miss top 4 is if we lose both remaining games and Carlton win both of theirs.

Would be a monumental disaster if that happens but Hawks and Swans away are certainly no gimme putts.

We would have to drop both games for that to happen. That seems fairly inconsistent with our recent formline, given we won 5 in a row and just lost (thanks to the ARC) against the other in-form team.

Not saying we'll lose both, I'm just saying that Hawthorn (coming off B2B wins against good teams) and Sydney (away and playing for a finals spot) are much more difficult games than they looked to be a few weeks ago.

We haven't lost to Hawthorn in ages, don't see that ending this week. Not sure the Hawks are good enough to win 3 in a row yet, and the Dogs are a weak, pathetic club who love giving up leads. Libba going down was less than ideal.

I reckon we'll come out pissed off after losing it to the Blues and belt Hawthorn to next season.

Mr negative
He's not alone there, mores. It's a tougher end to the season than what it looked like a few weeks ago. How do you think we'll fare?
