What’s more gutting is Port having the courage to drop Boak and include a young, second game ruckman. They have no problems dropping older, out of form players.

I know Chapman sucked but Olsen needs to act now and I haven't seen anything to suggest he won't extend Nicks past 2024.
We will sign him up for 3 years and then sack him 6 months later. It's pretty much how we roll.

Olsen has previously shown some capacity to want to change things but the club had already blown up at that point. The real test comes now and I'm not seeing anything to suggest he's any better than the last guy.

He's been very underwhelming so far, although I didn't have high hopes for him with his strong ties to the SANFL.

Yeah... & even worse he only got the 1 game to prove himself when some of the above have had many recent poor games.

I agree, I don't like how Nicks drops youngsters after 1 game. Given our season is done I would've kept him in but it's not the worst non selection of the week.

Cook & Soligo in for Sloane & Murphy... but we are afraid of dropping experience.

There is a pattern of the club making worse and worse decisions as the season goes on.

We start losing a few. Make poor decisions in an attempt to correct course. More losses. More poor decisions. Rinse and repeat

It's almost like our coaching panel are clueless.

Got the band back together.

Sickening isn't it, 4 years into the rebuild and this is what Nicks serves up. How any one can still think he's doing a good job is astounding happy clapping.

I just don’t have the energy to care anymore, it’s 2023 and Matthew Nicks with the exception of Dawson has selected the 2020 season midfield group of Laird, Crouch, Sloane, Keays and Schoenberg that brought home the wooden spoon, it takes some effort that after nearly 4 seasons in charge to revert back to the losing formula of your first year in charge, speechless…

And speaking of the Happy Clappers, this is what we have been melting about every Thursday night for the last 3 years.

We are left with Larid, Sloane, Crouch and Keays as the main men of our midfield because we have refused to give meaningful midfield minutes to our next gen midfielders over the last 3 years.

Yes we have the second youngest team blah blah blah, but in the most important area of the ground we have refused to embrace the rebuild - both in drafting and team selection.

Infuriating.

Is there any more evidence needed that Nicks is selecting to prolong his coaching career rather than for the clubs development?

Sloane, Crouch, Murphy instead of;

Cook Soligo Hately

its sad that it’s not even surprising

the nice guys of AFL!

Nicks didn't drop Nankervis .....and he brought Michaelanney back immediately after a week's break

Isn't it more about Max coming back to his HBF .....which had a knock-on affect of pushing Hinge to a WING .....the spot occupied by Cook

Nankervis may also play his preferred Wing role ....allowing Hinge to rotate between Wing and HB

Seems logical to me ....side looks pretty balanced, apart from Sloane

The stupid thing is that he would get more output from the second group anyway, which makes it even more baffling.

Pretty balanced?
You have 3 glacial inside mids in sloane, crouch & laird.

I generally like your views but seriously are you and Baccs employed by the club?

why would you want to put more games into Crouch, Sloane , Murphy, McHenry, Scholl etc. at the expense of the youngsters on our list when we are no hope of playing finals??

Cook did well off one game and we need to see if he and others warrant a spot on our list.

I bet it took a lot of strength for Nicks to resist his natural instincts of dropping a rookie after a decent game. I bet he wrestled with that all week.

Yeah, I like the team .....do you think they'll have Sloane, Crouch & Laird in the same CBA ......BTW Laird isn't slow

Schoenberg isn't playing FP .....Murphy will ....so Schoenberg will rotate with Sloane / Crouch ....along with Pedlar, who may get more mid minutes

The Coaching panel will be well aware of the midfield speed weakness ......all Clubs are, which is why Tom Mitchell was subbed out last week

Put it this way, we have 3 players that can’t play any where else.
Laird can play the full game like he always does.
Pedlar won’t be getting more minutes with less flexible players.
We can’t sub out multiple slow players and it accounts for no injuries.

I really hope Hinge stays on the wing for most the game. I really like his attitude and energy, plus his raking left foot even if it’s not accurate all the time :)
Another season under his belt and he could be something special.

I really don't .....my views on Crouch go back 3 years, a full year B4 I advocated he be traded over Brad

My views on Sloane are also well documented ....but I also advocated last year, his days in the midfield are over

Now, that said .....we are correctly trying to win games ....it is critical to the messaging from Nicks, that the players believe that too
After 4 years .....it's selection on merit, building connectivity & chemistry within the team ......that's far more valuable than experimenting .....and that's what some want

Remember, we viewed Cook on stats, and a few nice things with ball in hand ......I really don't think many from their lounge chair, can view his defensive efforts & positioning

I still agree, if we had to play Crouch, Sloane had to be "managed" and act as the Sub ....but I'm happy with the balance of the side, given our injuries / suspensions
