Because he's got some of the best forward craft seen in the last 15 years.

Fog has brute force, and unfortunately with where we are at, that isn't enough.
I think the brute force thing is a myth - he’s given away 4 free kicks yesterday because he doesn’t use his body well in marking contests

He gets pushed off the line of the ball in marking contests quite regularly

He can’t get separation because there is no fluidity or predictability to the ball movement going forward

When you have to wait until the last minute it’s hard to time a lead or make separation

Sure, that's a part of it.

But as much shit as we want to sling onto our midfield, you're telling me there's NEVER an ability to make seperation? Even an older, slower Walker manages it.

The hacked kicks don't help, but there's never a moment that his defender has an issues being right on his shoulder.

Does anyone else think that Gollant is reminiscent of the early John Klug?

Has a better leap, but Klug was older and more experienced so was more savvy with gamecraft.

Both fantastically mercurial.

This is actually going to be a very interesting game. We certainly had the opportunity to win the last trial and the last game, and neither side is looking much better than the other.

Can we learn anything from Hawthorn last night. Their skills were great and they ran the ball threw the middle any chance they could get. They seamed the have a loose man in defense all the time. Maybe Nicks needs to get the coke bottles and cans out again and show the players where to run.

Plenty. Has shown more than enough to persist with

Disagree

Yes play him this week however all players need to be accountable for their performances

His composure, decision making and kicking at the moment is pure putrid

He is worthy of another chance, but he is not worthy of a gold pass

It's not a myth at all.

I mean this is terms of he TRIES to use it all the time. He's not clever enough.

Out: Himmelberg (forced mid-season retirement or delisted)

Rest of the team garbage so raffle off a few other outs while we're at it

The entire Himmelberg situation is completely laughable.

As supporters I acknowledge we don't have all the information the coaches are privy to - But what were they expecting?

If they're making this level of obvious mistakes god knows how many others they're making behind the scenes.

Yeah tries to use it, but ends up being a clumsy attempt.

I can take those free kicks though.

There is an issue when he get into good marking position and can't grab it.

We need him to grab them.

In hindsight should we have delisted Matt Crouch even if we got nothing for him and knowing another club would pick him up for free?

I think we are seeing why we could sign him on our terms.

I think he's got a place in the side but Sloane can't be in it with him.

Probably learnt that the guy they took in mid season draft last year to play mid would have been handy in our midfield

Given he doesn’t run hard enough to get good looks at it he needs to be clean and not fumble the times he is in position

After watching the replay I think one of our problems is the spread of experience, along with poor game structure and disposal (personal) yesterday.

Backline
Yesterday we had Jones, Butts and Murray, with Murray in particular a panic merchant. We need a reshuffle with Laird back there for a cool head and roll him into the midfield on occasions.
Ideal set up would be
McAsey/Frampton - Butts - Brown
Laird - Dude - Hinge

Midfield
As many have stated we need a more dynamic set up that includes both size, power and experience in the bounces. We also need to work in a 2 ruck strategy that doesn't impact the forward set up. We also need to reward form. Ideal combinations:
Dawson - Crouch - Schoeberg
Dawson - Keays - Pedlar
Smith - Berry - Keays
FOG - Crouch - Dawson

We need Smith, Dawson, FOG and Scholl delivering into the forward 50 more often.

Forward
We need Walker back there no doubt but I think we also need Keays, Sloane in there more for some more grunt and experience.
TT was quiet again in the SANFL so I would go with Stawny instead of Himmelberg and stay with FOG at HF, Gollant and Strawny deep with potentially McAdam or Murray off the bench.

So for 6 of our 8 quarters so far, the basic skill level has been SANFL at best. Foot, hand and also marking. They showed in the 2nd half last week they have the capability, but why isn't is being shown.

Sloane in the mids isn't helping the team. Schoenberg and Keays the only players under 25 getting CBA. Sloane needs to play as a permanent forward, which should also help the forwards aerially, on the ground and directionally. There's a lack of experience in the forward line which needs to be addressed.

Move Murray forward, let him leap at the ball and contest. Berg to the SANFL, the experiment is over.

Frampton to the 2nd KPD, it will also improve our skills out of defence (I can't believe I've said that) which has moved back to the panicked snap around the corner.

Dawson should stay wing/HBF, he hasn't shown much on field to show he's an inside mid.

In: Frampton, Berry, Hately
Out: Berg, Sloane, Hinge

Agree with a lot of this but Hinge ain't going out, he's in the top 4 or 5 kicks on our list.

Not sure why people say Frampton hasnt got good skills.. his field kicking has always been top notch..

His kicking for goal at sanfl level has always been bloody good too..

Where he shits the bed is his kicking for goal at AFL level.. which is terrible!

Not just that, but yes.

I reckon Dawson will get suspended.
He shouldn't be suspended for using the correct technique when the other bloke goes in head first, but we all know that is not how the AFL operate.

He will be a huge loss. His ball use stands out like a beacon in our team.
