Crows dude don’t forget Murray and laird and Milera and Dowling

Now take out 4 from SANFL list. Becomes more difficult particularly for last two

He’s had some poor games here and there but I also think that they way some around here like to heap the blame mostly on Butts when his KPF opponent kicks a few snags is funny..

Half of the time that opposition KPF has been free to lead into massive holes in our defensive 50 that havent been plugged by our mids mostly due to laziness..

The competitions best KPF’s cant be stopped by one person. It needs to be a full team effort and that starts further up the ground.

The KPD is the very last line in the defense in trying to stop blokes like McKay, Curnow, Lynch, Tex, King bros, Fog, Hawkins etc etc.. if the guys further up the field are failing in their duties and not getting back to plug hiles in the D50 then the poor KPD is always going to struggle no matter how fxxkn good a KPD he is…

100% this.

KPD only as good as the team defence.

There is also some pretty handy KPFs kicking around these days, so there will be one or two that get off the chain and kick a bag.

The game v Carlton was a good one for both KPDs as the pressure up the field was fantastic and our team defence was structured perfectly, ensuring slow ball movement.

You would imagine with the game in Tassie there is a travelling emergency, possibly Schoenberg or Berry?

That SANFL side would trouble some AFL sides. It would likely beat West coast , North Melbourne and be very competitive against Hawthorn, Gold Coast.

McPherson also.

Ok yep tougher. A couple maybe left out as emergency so dont play any games. Gone with Hinge for now.

SANFL is 4 on the bench now as well.

I think Thilthorpe plays better when we only go in with the 2 key talls up forward. If we do rest Tex and bring in McAdam or Gollant I can see TT having another big game against the Hawks in Tassie like he did in his debut.
If Tex rested and TT plays as a permanent forward, who is the chop out ruck?
Gollant becomes the only feasible replacement for Tex because of this. If not, this leaves Fog as our only KPF when TT rucking.

I've said this before but McAdam is not competing against Tex or Fog for a spot in the forward line.

Worrell is going to be interesting, who do you drop from the defence and I want him in, but for who?

Doedee, Murray, Max no chance
Milera and Smith different players and both in form
Hinge, again not quite the same player but not far off. But were you moving Hinge? Wing for Sholl, but he’s been ok.
Butts really is the only one if his form drops and Worrell provides more intercepting and drive. If Butts shoulder is inhibiting him then don’t play him injured.
Worrell for Butts is a good swap if the oppo forwards don't have a second gorilla or a fast second key forward (J Cameron).

My hope is that Worrell could maybe play an Aliir role. Unlike Port, we’ve got a genuine aggressive KPD with decent size to help him out in Murray

Pretty sure Worrell has something like 7cm on Doedee, which is why I’m a lot more confident using him in the CHB interceptor role. Every bit of height and reach helps

Worrell when fit is in our best 22. Who he replaces is the difficult question to answer
Most likely Smith, Hinge or Milera. Worrell could play as a tall wingman as well but we have multiple options on the wing currently. If Sholl dropped off they could move Hinge to a wing and play Worrell in Hinge's spot down back.

Agree that Doedee, Milera and Smith are keeping Worrell out for now. They all played pretty well on the weekend.
Maybe Worrell in front of these guys against a taller forward line??

I want him to play though...or we'll lose him.

Yes good point Gollant would need to come in for Tex if we did go that way

ROB is capable of playing in the ruck 90-95% of the game time so it would only be short stints where TT would need to go in there. At those times then we have Fog and Gollant as our 2 marking options up there.

Nah, doubt this .... having three hammy's over the PS ....Worrell will need to play 2-3 games of SANFL at a lower pace, to build confidence

He'll understand that too

We've never been down this path!

Best 22 all the way. Nose to the grindstone.

We've lost very winnable games in the past because of sucky players / sucky coaching / sucky selections, not because of resting veterans.

We've only recently started resting our oldies the last couple of years, and only because we've been out of the finals race by about Round 8
I disagree. It wasn't so much that we wouldn't rest players. Rather, we would play them injured (Tex's foot) rather than sit them out, thereby not playing our best team. And hampering development of the draftees.

Anyone else get the feeling Brodie Smith had a hard talk with the coaches in the lead up to the Carlton game.

Rewatched his game and he was playing like he'd been given the "just so you know, your spots not guaranteed" chat.
I think it's more that Carlton are Bad and more specifically Voss is a bad coach and made zero adjustments from the last loss to Adelaide. Smith tore it up against them last time and was allowed similar latitude this time.

You'll note Keays was permitted to kick 3 goals vs Carlton the previous time out. In the following 7 games in the same role he manage a grand total of one goal in all them combined. Then he plays Carlton again and kicks another 3 goals.

That's literally not resting them

It may be because we went from Rutten AA into Talia AA perhaps people's standards are high but compared to some other clubs Butts is doing well for his age and development stage
