As a Tassie boy, I was at that game. Awful.
I remember that game, vividly. Ugly. Dumbest windy/rainy football I've ever seen played at that level.
Crows were flying, undefeated after 5 rounds, big %. Crows had thrashed Richmond by 76 points the week before (ironic, huh? That belting probably contributed to our loss in the GF. Complacency).
My impression was they thought they could just go down there, do what they'd been doing, chalk up a big win and enjoy the trip home.
NM kicked with the gale that was favouring the S end, 10.4 to zip at 1/4 time, game over. Crows persisted in kicking out to that side of the ground, most were pushed wide by the wind and went ootf, or were marked by NM talls.
Then NM showed the Crows what they should have been doing, kicking 2 against the wind by running the ball out along the stand-sheltered side, 12.6 to 5.6 @ half-time.
NM consistently had players short of the drop when the Crows were kicking into the wind, and then had players behind the pack (wet ball, off hands) going the other way.
Crows looked clueless. Nightmare.

One of the biggest grumbles here is that we don't play ruthless footy....
...
Managing a senior player on a trip to Perth.... perhaps. Not in round 4 and not after we have built some momentum.

We haven't had the cattle to play ruthless footy, but yeah I wanna see the strongest team every week. I love the way the boys have finished off the last 3 games. Dominant final quarters.

Crows need Tex fresh and hungry for the Collingwood/Geelong/Saints stretch.
It'll make him angry, too.
Rest him vs. Hawthorn (he won't want to be rested, but it makes sense) and after 16 days off he'll be hot to trot.
Good opportunity to bring gollant in. He did nothing wrong and deserves a crack against the hapless hawks. I wouldn't mind seeing McAdam on sub duties. It would also be good to see Thilthorpe and Fogarty synergise together against a lower team as Tex isn't going to be around forever.

We need to be smart about managing both Tex & Sloane... preferably in different games.

Agree this week needs to be a consideration with the travel.

Tex is a man-mountain, Sloane not so much. Both would be sore after a game --- they all are --- but Tex moreso.
There's more of him to ache!
Sloane's slow start after a year off was no surprise, in hindsight (I thought he was cooked, my bad), but he seems to have acclimatised and has settled in to his new role well.

Speaking of acclimatised, I've become so used to losing via crap football that the Crows of the last three weeks have me on edge. Excited :D, but nervous :grimacing:. The hype around the Crows is enormous. Carlton came back hard at the Crows, twice, but were held then blown away.
I'm kinda waiting for the bubble to burst. If they can grind 2 out of 3 wins from the Collingwood/Geelong/Saints stretch then we'll know they're the real deal.

First: belt Hawthorn down there.

I'm not really worried about the Saints. They haven't beaten anyone of significance yet. They are improved under Ross but we should take care of them at home fairly easily. Collingwood and Geelong are another story. It's hard to know how Geelong will perform but I think that's a 50/50 game down there. Probably a loss to them is the most likely outcome. Collingwood will be another 50/50. If we play 4 quarters we should win. They currently have no ruck and there weakness is their forward line. If our defence gets on top it's most likely a win. The real test will come away against teams like Melb, Collingwood, Brisbane. Steal one of them and we are the real deal.

One of the biggest grumbles here is that we don't play ruthless footy. If we don't select the absolute best team to play Hawthorn, this is a signal to the players that we "expect to win". I don't like it. If we want a culture of playing ruthless footy, it needs to start at selection. It needs to be the way the whole team operates.

Its a 22 game season.

Playing Tex without resting him isn't ruthless its stupid.

It will be round 6 though
Yeah I made a mistake I meant to type "after" and got the round wrong.

Having a closer look at the fixture, Round 12 for a trip to Darwin seems like a good round to manage a veteran. Rest, game, bye and hopefully fresh for the pointy end.

I think playing the best team available is best. If a niggle or soreness presents, that Tex or Sloane would have played through in the past, a strong case for resting them can be made.

Breust may have just done a hammy may just be "awareness"
Would be a big loss as their best forward.

We have no excuse for breaking our Tassie Hawks hoodoo.

I think Tex being rested is a really responsible and smart idea.

I also think the more games TT and Fog line up together the better for us, especially for the future.

Tasmania is likely to be cold and wet so I'd probably go McAdam over Gollant.
