Williams is Injured with a groin. And Bergman appears to have been converted to a back for this season to learn his defensive craft at least so neither of these was going to come in for woodcock. Only one who might have been a shout over Sutcliff was Cox who isn’t as good defensively as cam.
If Cox cannot get a game ahead of Sutcliife then he may as well be delisted.

Agree. There's zero point in blooding Mead, Bergmen, Wiliams now..... or ******* Jack Watts for that matter. They will not be part of the finals tilt this year. We have a top 2/4 spot to sew up and hopefully a premiership to win. It is not a time for experimentation. I'm not sure why people aren't getting this?
The one guy we should be "trying out" before the finals is Hayes. We have used 30 players so far this year so they will be the 30 we will play come finals given no B grade full games are left this year.

However if something happens to one of, or both at the sametime of Lycett and Ladhams, you don't want to debut Hayes in a final. Westhoff is a poor second ruck.

Sydney - have Sinclair rucking who is nothing great and Sam Reid pinch hits. Could have been played here.

North - Goldstein would beat up Hayes, does 90% of the rucking but would be a decent test

Essendon - Played their #3 last night Phillips as Bellchambers and Draper were injured

Collingwood - Grundy's a champ but Cox has lost form and Cameron plays as 2nd ruck so Hayes could test himself against Cameron in that game.

Brisbane, WCE, Richmond, St Kilda and Geelong with Blicavs play 2 rucks. We will have to match that in October.

Westhoff's acceptable standard for the coaches now is 1 shot at goal, jesus.

Only one less shot than dixon, who only got his shots from few kicks but more possessions whilst playing as back up ruck.

Westy def comes out for Ladhams soon, but if purely on the stats we are given, you could argue Dixon should be dropped too.

Westhoff staying in whilst Ladhams is suspended and we have made FIVE changes is perfectly acceptable.

Why on earth are people talking about blooding fresh kids when we are only a few games out from finals and are sitting top of the ladder? This is not the time, we are up to our necks in this premiership tilt. This board is hilarious and clueless at the same time.

Because if say a Sutcliffe isn't significantly better than a young kid, I'd rather just play the young kid.

i agree

he was fine. He will be fine against Sydney

If fine is what we’re happy with let’s fold the ******* club though
....
Hinkley's more than happy with what Sutcliffe brings because it fits with his whole ethos of mediocrity. We'll qualify for finals. What more do people want?

With Lycett playing sore, this was the week to bring in Hayes.

Woodcock may well be getting a rest but also as others have pointed out it is a swap of Rozee for him. I have loved what Boyd has brought but remember it was only 3 months ago he was left back in Adelaide and not a part of the hub group because of a fitness issue. I know people are saying he has played 4 games and doesn't need a rest, but id hedge he probably does.

Why is westhoff playing, unless he playing in defence he should never play again
Ken loves Hoff, Motlop and Bonner. He might have dropped them but he rushes them back in whenever he can.

Degrees of mediocrity

runners up in gf
finish top of the ladder
finish top 4
win 2 finals
win 1 final win
0 final wins
finish out of 8
beaten in final by more than 10 points
loose a final by less than 10 points
etc

which mediocrity are yu talikng about?
stop hiding behind a generalisation.
admit yu have been wrong
change your attitude as a supporter of pa

is this a joke? Imagine giving Bergman and Hayes an opportunity to see if they can offer anything in the finals while resting players. But it’s the rest of this board that is clueless.

Good changes.

4 great players in.

geez Bonner was lucky. Houston in next week. Westy out the week after, Ladhams in. We are almost there for our best 22

I’m not fazed that Sutcliffe is in and Woodcock out. I don’t think this makes much difference. Sutcliffe does provide more flexibility as he can go back if an injury occurs.

Getting the right balance for finals is pretty important now, and I think experience will trump the really young kids, unless they are flying. If we are having a serious crack at it, we can’t be a development team from here on in. Remember most of our players have 6 games or less finals experience.

Rozee, Butters, Duursma, Marshall, Ladhams - are also all under 50 games.

These are quite surprising selections. I don't think we have ever made 5 changes to a winning team under Ken. It's always been 3 max with 1-2 best 22 players having to slog it out at SANFL level because the first team is winning. This is a nice change in selection philosophy.

I think with Burton returning it was a choice between Bonner and Lienert. Bonner clearly has the higher ceiling but boy did he cost us early in the game against Hawthorn. I think he's lucky to keep his spot but he was fine once he had settled and I'm not too bothered by Lienert dropping out.

Great to see Rozee, Duursma and Marshall all come back in. Thrilled! Mayes has been ok but I see him more as depth at his point, he's done his job and will probably be one of the first recalled if we get injuries. Shame about Georgiades but he's in his first year as a key tall, the club should be as conservative as possible with him. Motlop absolutely had to be dropped. Good call there.

Westhoff holding his spot was always going to happen with Ladhams suspended. No issues from me.

The mystery is Woodcock dropping out for Sutcliffe. I get these aren't always direct 1:1 changes but it's puzzling. Woodcock has certainly shown the goods so I'm wondering whether it's a management thing as he's essentially playing his first year at AFL level or whether there were some football zoning issues with his positioning. Sutcliffe has been reliable this year and he seems to find himself in the right spots when it matters so it could just be a maturity thing or maybe there's some specific role that Sutcliffe is better suited to than Woodcock. It's a bit of a fly in the ointment but again I'm not too bothered by it.

We're very close to ideal best 22 on the eve of finals. Plenty to get excited about!

We have been scored against far far too easily the past 3 weeks from deep inside our forward 50. Im guessing, but I think Sutcliffe has been brought in with a specific role regards to this. Something that Motlop and Woodcock can't or won't do.

I'd have preferred Boyd as well but its not worth going troppo over and will see if we are better at not letting the opposition out of our fwd line this week.

Pretty good side we are putting out there this week. Hopefully it's not too much of a disruption and they're all ready to go.

Sutcliffe is an interesting one, and i tend to agree with others in that i would've preferred to stick with Woodcock but does Sutcliffe bring any less to the table than what we've got from Motlop/Mayes/Farrell in the past few weeks? I wouldn't have thought so.
