IF we can get Wood and Morris in with confidence, I’d give Young another go. A lot of his time in the team last year was without one or both of these leaders for a lot of that time and obviously this year as well. I think while Naughton is out, we can use this time to develop Young’s understanding of our defensive style with two experienced legends there to pick him up when he stuffs up and point out what he does right. May not work but rather get him develop than rush injury prone Adams back, lose him then have to bring Young back anyway. Just my opinion

A reasonable opinion, but I thought I would provide the reasons for my differing opinion, re: Young.

Young had a great debut game, but has struggled in every other senior game he has played. I think he has potential but continuing to play him in the hope that he will do well is a dangerous strategy. It backfired badly on us last year when he was playing very poorly but kept getting selected. You may remember we lost close games in that stretch which cost us a finals spot.

We are not that good that we can carry players for the benefit of experience, and we already have a significant number of other inexperienced players in the side.

If he goes back to the VFL, plays well again, gets another crack at it down the track and next time actually plays well and keeps his spot then I think he would probably be better off for the experience.

Very good point. Young only had Cordy with him against GWS late last year when he had a howler. Would definitely benefit from having Wood and Morris next to him!

I don't think a full pre season is relevant considering he would've lost all of his fitness over the past 10 weeks. He may come back in the seniors but his first game back last year off a lengthy layoff was very ordinary, so there's no harm in playing a half in the VFL first to shake off some rust.
Apparently he didn't actually lose much, was able to keep fitness up off the track initially. Bell said he passed every fitness test thrown at him, no point building fitness in the seconds when an 80% Morris is likely to offer more than a 100% Young etc.

Wood - Morris - Williams
Crozier - Cordy - Suckling
JJ - Macrae - Hunter
Daniel - Bontempelli - Dahlhaus
Lipinski - Schache/Trengove - Dunkley
Boyd - McLean - Wallis

Richards, Dale, Webb, Gowers

Wallis to Crouch.
Daniel to Laird.

Think we need to bring in a tall to help Boyd in the ruck.

I’d make the tall Trengove. Schache can’t ruck. Is starting to build some nice form at VFL level though. Let him keep building there until he smashes the door down I reckon.

Fair bit of talk on the Crows board that Tex, McGov and Jacobs could all miss. I gotta say, when the fixture came out and I saw we got the Crows after the showdown, I was pretty happy. Not trying to injury troll but if those names all miss along with Sloane already confirmed to miss, dare I say a sneaky upset might be a chance if Morris and Wood hold down the defensive end.

Great news with Morris. Agree with those who have him coming straight back into the team. A guy like him doesn’t need to come back through the twos, he’ll be ready to go.

In: Morris, Wood, Trengove
Out: Naughton (inj), Webb, Honeychurch

B: Morris Cordy Young
HB: Williams Wood Suckling

R: Trengove Bontempelli Macrae
C: Johannisen McLean Hunter

HF: Dahlhaus Dunkley Dale
F: Lipinski Boyd Gowers

I: Crozier Richards Wallis Daniel

Would like to see Young stay in even with Morris and Wood back. Though he has performed pretty well the last two weeks and will only be better with the experience of Morris and Wood coming back in to help him.

Honeychurch has been really well as a tagger this year with a great job on Merrett and a decent job on Zorko. I’d keep him in if we use him in that role again. Not sure there is a matchup for him (maybe Crouch). I don’t think he offers enough to stay in if he isn’t playing the shutdown role.

Webb to come out again. It’s harsh to keep bringing him in and taking him out because he probably needs that continuity to take the next step, but whenever he comes in he plays a heap of time forward where I don’t think he is a great fit and doesn’t contribute enough. He dominates the VFL in the midfield but there isn’t a spot for him in the midfield at AFL level.

We still dominated the clearances last week without a ruckman but still did feel we missed an extra tall as a marking option around the ground. I think Trengove deserves a crack alternating with Boyd as the ruck/tall forward. He was great playing that role in the preseason but then played full forward in round one and then full back in round two to fill needs, would like to see him in the role he was brought over to play

I like the natural cycle of optimism that builds each week in these threads leading up to games against big odds. Very much ‘The Great White Hype’ though.

Hey guys, how do you rate your chances against Adelaide this week?

Personally I don't think you're out of it, possibly a 40% chance of winning. But then again because bulldogs' recent opponents have been week hard to know.

Are you guys feeling confident?

not much confidence .. but some senior players back helps

Why? are you guys struggling in a particular reason?

Midfield great, defence holding up, with so many injuries to Adelaide forward lines are equally dysfunctional

Think we catch Adelaide at a bad time more than anything. Probably hurts us they are coming off a heartbreaking loss to their rival.

Plus our defence is underdone. Once again Macrae and Bontempelli (Mclean and Co as well) will need to be huge for us to get close.

Adelaide by about 5 goals is what I have it looking as.

A win here would be very 2015 v Shitney
