the thing is I think we all have a soft spot for Eagles.
Although Ballenden signed for a few more years you think we want to blood him at some stage.
Skinner as well as Eagles only have this year.
Although I did wonder if they kept Eagles as a in case of emergency tall after letting Walker go.

do they need to pay more once upgraded.. Seems Fagan said something about cash with McStay tribunal case?

Can't answer that. I imagine they get some kind of games played bonus but I don't know. Regardless, I don't think any additional payments would deter us from upgrading a player we thought would be the best option to win games. We just don't have the money to gamble on the Tribunal roulette.

Archie happened today when do they need to say Cat B?
From reports Archie not out long enough to meet the criteria for an upgraded CatB, IIRC it's a minimum of 8 weeks out, Connor McFadyen would fit or maybe Marcus Adams so they have been able to promote a CatB for a while if they wanted to.

We seem to stick with our settled ideas on where players fit in no matter what so I'd be surprised if Eagles got a call up.

But he's clearly our best option for a second ruck or for some extra grunt forward or back . He'd be getting a game at most clubs. Personally I don't think his age is a factor because he didn't come through the system from 17 or 18 and still has the zest for it all .

Not an affection thing at all for me . Every time I watched a NEAFL game he was the player you most wanted out there . But as a club I guess we have a development strategy and he's not part of that.

I have no idea if Eagles is injured or playing well.
I watched most of the NEAFL last year either live or on TV and he had a good year.
He will give his all at AFL level as he did before
If he is playing as well this year as last year then he should be under consideration.
Their was no point in giving him a rookie extension at his age if they only intended playing him in the twos

If the club upgrade someone they will have to choose between Eagles, Madden & Fullarton

We kept eagles because we got special dispensation for him to stay cat b for a 4th year. Pretty sure that means his wage is at least partially, if not fully outside the cap.

After some thought, I have come to this conclusion.
Hinge for Lester (has that little bit extra height and has a sweet left foot)
Witho for Rich (some more decent disposal out of the back half)
Skinner for Mcstay (skinner to play some relief mins in the ruck)
CEY for Archie (a bit more midfield help and could help up forward)

If we want one more change for a little more ruck relief
Fullarton for Tom Berry (have loved toms forward pressure but we seem to love to have some height down the line at every stage and allow for our mids to get a clearance and open the game up at the stoppages)

What do we do selection wise if McStay’s replacement kicks 5 or 6 goals during his suspension?

I sincerely doubt your son will kick that many goals mate.

I keep telling you Nunez, he’s only eight. I had to get approval from the DHS to allow him to take up his new position as Head Goal Kicking Coach at the Brisbane Lions and only then if I promised to resist attempts to draft him until he was 18. You are just going to have to be patient.

Then we find a way to fit him in. Surely...
The question is where? If his replacement plays well and gets amongst the goals, it would hardly seem fair to then drop them after two games.

Does anyone know where I could find our emergencies for each game this year? I'm just curious to see who is a regular.
Emergencies for the year:

5 - Skinner, Witherden
4 - Mathieson
3 - Coleman, Hinge, Ballenden, Answerth
1 - Robertson, T Berry, Birchall (late out), Zorko (late out), Ellis-Yolman, Lester

I think we will need to review our small and medium fwds roles and how our mids push up and lock the ball in since we are going to persist with Hipwood and can't not have Mcstay in if available, and also aren't likely to change their roles. Hipwood can't really do much with just wait until he improves and Mcstay particularly up the ground is important. I think we'll still structure up to create fwd stoppages but as we want to keep opponents guessing and create multiple options to goal may be able to get that new player to work in and offer a little more of a potent threat as a deeper fwd option.

Edit: If we start managing Birchall and Rich is out think we will be less inclined to look for, or less successful in moving the ball through the corridor and will move it up the boundary much more again. That being said with Charlie and Mcstay pushing up the ground Witho/Answerth should hopefully hit them up more, and Bailey/Starc and our MF are also more able to rebound with dare this year, so having a deeper option along with Hipwood roaming could work quite well and they wouldn't be getting in the way of Mcstay and vice versa

This is actually a bit exciting . For the first time this year we're going to get some idea of what the coaches really think of the next 8 or 10 guys on our list in line for selection.

It's also going to be refreshing to see some of these players perform ,how they handle the pressure.

As long as we win.

I'm promising no melt or over the top criticism if someone doesn't measure up. Everyone should sign up to that . We're going to have some nervous and rusty new faces.
Yes team selection this week will be the best reserves report we’ve had all year
