Out: Lloyd, Smith
In: Bruce, JJ

We aren’t doing anything without two key forwards. We haven’t seen a healthy Bruce & Naughton properly together this year. JJ to come in and play wing, leave Richards in defence.
Gardner is going to stay in at least until Cordy is back unfortunately.

Sweet to debut if English doesn’t get up.

*Edit - forgot about VDM, maybe Dale out. too.

Could get Crozier back next week. Also hoping Greene plays well enough to push Llyod out, after returning to injury this week.

I know we won, and it was a good team performance, but I think we're 6 changes away from our best available 22. I'm assuming that JJ is back (and no one else is), and that English is out.
Change 1: Sweet IN English OUT
No brainer if English is out.
Change 2: Le. Young IN Gardner OUT
Another no brainer IMO as Young has shown some promise unlike Gardner...
Change 3: Johannisen IN R. Smith OUT
I think Smith actually did okay today, but someone has to make way and I think Richards played well down back where he belongs.
Change 4: Bruce IN Lloyd OUT
Lloyd hasn't offered much, and I think this makes our team structure much more tidy. Gives Sweet a chop out (or sore English) so feel that is the right way to go.
Change 5: Weightman IN West OUT
West a bit stiff, didn't have the best of days today. But IMO he is a midfielder and needs to be developed as such, even if it is a scratch match. Not much point wasting the crucial development years in his career spending time learning forward craft, when if hes going to make it it will be as a midfielder. Weightman and Cavarra double midget can add some valuable pressure.
Change 6: Vandermeer IN McLean/Lipinski OUT
Think both Lipinski and McLean have contrasting weaknesses but I don't think we can afford to carry both, and neither provide the line breaking speed of Vandermeer. Vanders has been really solid and is definitely one for the future so needs to play. Torn one which one to leave out between McLean or Lipinski and wouldn't be overly phased if the MC went either which way.
Leaves the 22 as follows, which I feel is a better structure than what we had today and will hold us in better stead against the better teams.
FB: Wood, Le. Young, Williams
HB: Richards, Keath, Johannisen
C: Hunter, Bontempelli, Vandermeer
HF: Dale, Naughton, Wallis
FF: Weightman, Bruce, Cavarra
FOL: Sweet, Macrae, Dunkley
INT: Daniel, B. Smith, Liberatore, McLean/Lipinski

Crozier comes back if fit. But assume he misses one more.
Been calling for English to be rested every week but no point now with a bye coming up, however wouldn't take a chance with his ankle if it is anything less then 100%.
Out: Lloyd, r.smith,
In: Vdm, Bruce

I am not a fan of Gardner or Smith unfortunately I think the win just patches over selection issues. Gardner it was hard to know who he was lined up against as they were moving around and poor, but his stats show, 3 kicks, 3 hand balls, 2 marks and 17 mts gained, 98% game time. One of his kicks should have been a turn over goal and he dropped a mark late which cost a goal. He will play again but as soon as he plays someone decent will get found out and so will the team.

I still struggle to see why they didn't pick an extra tall forward also, Dunkley in the ruck is not going to cut it against good teams so again just wall papering over an issue they had. If Bruce is out and you want to play English fwd then why not play Sweet at the expense of Cavarra or Smith. I mean English wasn't even taking the ruck duties when he was played forward. Naughton had one out of the bag and clearly going to be a gun but against good team defences it won't be that easy.

Ball still too easy out of the forward line too, the coast to coast goals a worry. Haven't seen enough of Melbourne and their forward line to know how many tall defenders they need.

Out - Eng (inj), Cavarra, Smith, Lloyd (I hope Gardner)
In - Sweet, Bruce, Vandermer, Dickson (Young if Gardner out)

We will probably saddle up with Gardner next week but against a team or opponent with any pace or marking strength he will struggle again.
IN: Vandermeer, Crozier, Lewis Young
OUT: Lloyd, RSmith, Gardner
West lucky but deserves more opportunities.

I'd rest English, even if the injury was minor, no point risking it, maybe give Sweet a run.

Depends if Gawn is back - if its Preuss, Sweet would be a perfect match up - probably come up against him a few times in the VFL

Gardner wasn't brilliant but wasn't too shit but they weren't really tested but I think Cordy is at least another week away.

Out: English, Lloyd, Gardner
In Sweet, Trengove, Bruce

Forgot about VDM..he comes in for Smith

Won’t happen but I’d much rather bring Schache in to play with Naughton, not Bruce.

naughton needs the ability to fly for everything.

plus unlike Bruce, Schache can kick straight
Exactly right
Naughton demands the ball.
Bruce is clumsy and just gets in the way.
Whereas Schache is happy being a decoy or not intrusive..

Will be interesting who is available next week because if JJ, crozier and vandermeer are fit all should come straight back in.

Roarke, Richards, Lloyd and west are probably the ones to make way although none played that bad.

Still think we need the extra tall up forward, would even try sweet as ruck and English as a forward/ruck to rest him from rucking all game.

I would go with if English is alright
Out:
Roarke - did nothing wrong just better options available
West - did some good things, also made a couple of errors
Lloyd - Just not at the same level as last year
Gardner - I just don’t rate him, did nothing wrong this week but also wasn’t isolated at any stage

In:
JJ - will come back in
Vandermeer - deserves to come back in
Sweet - time to give him a chance
Lewis young - think he’s a better backman than Gardner

What I expect to happen:
Out: west and Roarke
In: JJ and Bruce

In: JJ, Cordy, Bruce
Out: R. Smith, Gardner, Lloyd

Vandermeer deserves to come back in but is probably fighting West and Cavarra for a spot. Can see us giving them both another game before the change is made. Trengove in for English if he's injured.

FB: Wood, Keath, Williams
HB: JJ, Cordy, Daniel
C: Lipinski, Libba, Hunter
HF: Mclean, Naughton, Dale
FF: Wallis, Bruce, Cavarra
R: English, Macrae, Bont
Int: Libba, Richards, West, Smith

In: JJ, Cordy, Bruce
Out: R. Smith, Gardner, Lloyd

I like these changes. Would give Sweet a run though if English misses.
