Changes vs Essendon

I wouldn't be bringing in anyone who played in the VFL this week. No one is knocking down the door and we need to start to get a bit more settled in preparation for finals. While I think T Boyd is best 22, he needs at least another 1 - 2 weeks in the VFL to build some form. He wasn't that good over the full course of the game.

Roberts and Hamling are the only ones I'd look at bringing in with Prudden and Talia making way for them. Prudden would be a little unlucky, but he has to go out for the sake of team balance. We already had a defender (Murphy) playing forward, bringing in another defender for Dale for example is too much. Prudden has shown enough to get another year on the list anyway and I think has more to offer as an inside mid once he gets his fitness levels up.

Out: Talia, Prudden, Dale
In: Hamling, Roberts, Webb

Campbell should be right to go one out on the ruck this week.

Out: Prudden, Dale, Talia,
In: Hamling, Roberts, Webb
And Roughead in for Campbell if fit

B: Morris Roberts Wood
CHB: Murphy Hamling Boyd
C: Hunter Wallis Macrae
CHF: Crameri Redpath Dahlhaus
F: Dickson Stringer Grant
R: Campbell/Rough Bonti Picken
Int: Webb, JJ, Biggs, SUB: Daniel

Some doubt over Hurley and Zaka for Essendon. Regardless I really think we should smash them, and I'm usually not the type to go with these mindset. Just hope if we are on top early we go in for the kill.

Hirds refusal not to play Giles drives me nuts McKernan needs help.

I reckon you should just play Giles and then Mckernan as second forward next to Joe. It's not perfect but it would be an ok stop gap. Would also allow Hooker to go back. Mckernan just isn't a number 1 ruckmen.

Yep, that's been the suggestion every week since Carlisle got injured. Don't think it's gonna happen now though, especially given you're probably not going to play a big dominant ruck.

Think Carlisle might go back when he returns and Hooker continue to play forward.

Calls for Prudden to be dropped seem a bit harsh IMO unless he is "sore".

Are these calls just based on the fact that Bev subbed him last week even though Bev acknowledged he was having a good game? For the record he had 17 disposals up to 3/4 time. On track for 23 for the match. Not many medium sized defenders get that many touches. Boyd and Murphy did but not JJ or Wood.

He's getting better and more confident every week. Why pull the rug out now?

I don't get why Dale is on everyone's outs. I thought he played well. I guess you're trying to get Webb in but Dale had a good game and doesn't deserve any 'not up to it' comments (by only a couple posters).

Tom Boyd should play this week. At worst it forces Hooker back to defence or Redpath and Stringer get massive mismatches against Gwilt/stienburg. If Carlisle plays then its probably the Carlisle/Hurley/Gwilt combo and we should find a mismatch from somewhere. Plus boydy palyed well in the ruck.

No he didn't play well. May have had a good goal to finish the game, but he wasn't good for most of the first 3 quarters.

He couldn't stick a tackle on many an occasion and he often couldn't even get close enough to his opponent to ever pressure their disposal. One passage that stood out when Sidebottom was his opponent, Dale was a complete witches hat, while Sidebottom waltzed around him and gained 30 m before taking his kick.

Tend to agree, especially against essendon who are one of the less physically developed teams.

Essendon's talls are concerning, must have 2 fit KPDs this week with Morris as the 3rd, that's the only way they can win imo if their talls (Hooker and Daniher up forward, Hurley baths us down back) dominate, otherwise we'll lock them down and strangle them out of it and expose them for speed
Pressure on the mid kickers and ball carriers will expose Essendon s lack of pace, class and small forwards. We should win this one with disciplined effort. Good thing Carlisle is out... won the game almost single handedly for them last time.

I'd be happy if Gwilt ends up on Stringer again.

From Essendon board preview thread;

Jake Stringer was on fire the last time these sides met, but James Gwilt has never been disgraced since removing the white from his jumper and will likely be able to contain the key forward

 o_O

I will be so happy if this matchup occurs

I .....
, I'd be keeping him this weekend to take on hooker and daniher.

We also have such short memories. His start to the season was outstanding for a 22 year old key position player. Wallis is just coming good now as a mid. Patience with Talia required as well.
Yea, he was great early on, but seems to have lost some form and confidence. When in form Talia looked our best defender against the power fwds

I'm never going to criticise MC again. Bev can pick who ever chooses. ( I may have to count to 10 if it's Ayce though)
Who do we think is the best match up for Hooker? He's been clunking some very good marks the past few weeks.
Maybe Roberts with Wood coming across.

Not on my list of 'outs' either. Worth at least another week or two. Gives his all, and has clean skills. Not everyone's a machine like Wallis or Libba.
