Did you read the rubbish in their thread? Apparently we are the worst Premiers, only Premiers because if the bye (apparently the other teams missed out), yaddah, yaddah yaddah.

As one of the posters who made comments about the bye I just wanted to apologise if this caused offence, wouldn't for one second dismiss what you guys did last year, it was remarkable. My point was more about the injuries you guys were copping, and the bye helped before the finals tilt, but you were playing great footy before that.

Good luck for the weekend, July Elimination final so should be a great game, far from confident, I think you guys are starting to click a bit.

One misconception with the bye last year is that the dogs got an extra week to get all their players back. When in fact we played on a Sunday and our final was a Thursday. That is only 11 days, without the bye we would not have played on the Sunday to start with given we were interstate and most elimination finals prior to the bye week being introduced were the Saturday night or Sunday. So really we only got 4 days at best extra rest than we would of without a bye.

I still think its really unfair that the other teams had to play against us at close to full strength though. We should have limped in with half our best 22 missing and been knocked out straight away. Its also very unfair on the competition that we didn't have to play Geelong at all. I mean obviously we held up our end of the bargain and could have met them in the Grand Final if they didn't lose to Sydney in the first 20 minutes, but that's not the point. It's not right that a team can win a flag without beating Geelong. The pre-finals bye should have been scrapped as soon as a minnow club won the flag as it's clearly unfair on the top teams who shouldn't have had to play against an 80% strength Dogs side and should have pissed in a nice easy win against a 50% strength minnow club.

You did it, you got me started! The AFL didn't finalise the schedule for the last round until they knew who was playing finals. The stated reason for this was to give teams playing in the finals the greatest break. Ok. So what did the AFL do, scheduled us on the Sunday (while the Melbourne Collingwood game, both of who were not playing finals, was scheduled the day earlier.

Dont talk to me about no conspiracies.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It's not enough that keyboard nuffies have got hold of this idea but when I hear so-called experts say "no bye, no flag" it makes my blood boil.

Rohan Connoly's article on the stinker website he set up is a pile of horse shit. I took him to task over the huge assumptions he made in his article on Twitter and he had a sook and basically conceded it was just his opinion and not really based on anything.

Pretty sure we requested the Sunday game as we didn't want to go to Perth on a 6 day break in round 23

Do you think Bevo conceded the Freo game in advance? To throw the Eagles off the scent? The master plan!

No but we got underdone players back and the bye destroyed wet toast's momentum ;)
Not to mention that the AFL only introduced it when they saw we had those injuries and a few extra days would help us bring those players back.

AFL, more like WWE, am I right?

I have no doubt that the bye benefited us more than other finalists (most importantly West Coast).

That's nothing to be ashamed of. As Scrag and others have said, it merely enabled us to get a slightly better side back for the finals, albeit a bit underdone. Prior to that we'd been decimated by injuries. So even though we still had players like Murphy, Wallis and Redpath out the EF teams were a truer representation of the respective lists. That's something that should be appreciated by true football lovers who want the best talent and the best possible contests in the finals.

Credit to those returning from injury - some of them a bit prematurely - for being able to produce some form so quickly. However from memory most of those returning from injury played better in later finals, not so much the EF.

The "R24" bye was planned that way from the start of the season, so it wasn't any late favouritism from the AFL. In fact it's already been pointed out that we played on a Thursday so we got fewer days off than any other finals side.

The bye was introduced because Ross Lyon manipulated the fixture by resting players in the final round. No-one complained much about it.

I don't give a flying f**k how or why we won our premiership. I was there, I saw it and it was bloody great.

Was Pavs farewell game and a dead rubber to us. Bevos just a nice guy and probably didn't want the Freo supporters to riot lol

Also all our players would have been playing half arsed to not get injured, whereas Freo would be going all out for the win for Pav.

We were hardly going to break out plan B tactically to win that match with quite possibly every single one of West Coast's football department staff watching that game and taking notes on us. The only implication of that game was that it made the flag more of a surprise (or fluke for salty fans) when it happened, once you write off htat match (15 wins from 21 games is as impressive as most premiership winners), we look a lot better heading into finals.

Poor RoCo, trying to resurrect his football journalism career after taking the redundancy package at the Age. Going to have to get a real job soon enough.
