Really being hammered home this week that the match committee is on a hiding to nothing, and people will be unhappy no matter what changes they make.

People clamour every week for Nelson and Waterman to be dropped. They’ve both been dropped.

People have been clamouring for Jones, Witherden and Foley to be recalled. They’ve all been recalled.

So people decide to fixate on the fact that no Senior Player (see previous definitions) has been scapegoated. And also Langdon got recalled after 20 and three in the WAFL, having been unlucky to be dropped in the first place. Outrageous. Not to mention we’ve picked an actual ruckman rather than use our future Coleman Medal winning future captain as a backup for the third week in a row.

Who’d be a selector?
I think the frustration comes from the sense that the team is under-performing and has been since 2018. They turn it on when they feel like it. The only hope we have to turn that around is shock treatment.

Dropping the last 4-5 players selected is not really a message to senior players. I have no problem with Kelly, Yeo and Shuey, they deserve some slack for time out of the game. But just once I’d like the MC to send an unequivocal message to guys who refuse to tackle (read Gaff and Sheed).

Of course, that’ll never happen, we’re too conservative.

We’ll finish 7th or 8th, get bundled straight out and call it a good season. This team should’ve achieved more.

Surely we have seen enough of Langdon to know he brings absolutely nothing
You haven't watched him closely have you.
He runs and runs and runs and puts pressure on and closes down options just by filling space. He does what Cripps used to do before he became selfish fumble man.

Right now the perfect 4 rotating small forward setup for us would consist of Langdon as the 15km pressure small forward, Ryan and Rioli as the creative, spectacular, uncontrollable pair and someone like Petruccelle as the scare them with pace while you're trying to guard the others option.

Cole and Duggan are fully developed, what you see with both of them is as good as it gets and it ain’t great with either. Rotham still developing and performs better than both of them most of the time. Insane selection.
All coaches have their favourites and obviously Cole and Duggan are in Simmo basket of favs.
I have a different opinion to you. I think more of Cole and Duggan than you do. I think Duggan emerged as an important player a couple of years ago. He seems to have regressed recently, I think injury and being pushed into the midfield have something to do with it. I quite like Cole too, he has energy and agility and the ability to pressure opponents that most of the other defenders don’t. I would dispute that they can’t get better but I do agree that they are probably in Simmo’s group of favorites.

I like Rotham also although I can see why he is the one who has lost his place. He is a tidy player but seems to be playing within himself at the moment. He is unlucky to be dropped but someone had to be to fit Witherden and Foley in. Witherden is a class above our other back flankers who can open up the ground with his kicking. He had to be included, and Foley showed dash and kicking ability in his two games so I think he is a worthy inclusion. I am sure Rotham will be back, maybe he just has to work on a couple of things. I think we are still trying to win not rebuild, but whether winning means just making the eight or premierships I am not so sure. Perhaps we have to go a step back to go two steps forward if we do indeed want to go two steps forward.

Quiet simply I don’t think the shortcomings of the team has nothing to do with any individuals but the game plan given them to play by their coaches. Our failures to make the four the past few years is evidence

Indeed. The game plan needs a serious overhaul. The only question that I can't work out is why Simpson, who created new game plans in 2015 and 2018, is so stubborn and won't amend it as needed right now.

I don't get the Rotham love. Whenever he is 1 on 1 he seems to lose the contest, he has no speed (or if he does he doesn't use it) and he just likes to kick mark without moving much. He is a decent mark and kick though.
I think he’d almost be the second quickest player in the squad behind Petruccelle. Ran some times at the Combine well under 3 secs in the 20m sprint. So he certainly doesn’t lack speed, particularly for a guy that is listed at 193cm.

As you say though his one on one work has been indifferent this season. Given away a lot of silly holding and unnecessary blocking free kicks this year.

Droping 5 fringe players does not address the problem. It just gives a signal to the whole team for demanding immediate improvement. The key to success this Sunday is the willingness of the whole team to contest hard and not just the fringe players.

Injuries to key players have cruelled us this year especially in the midfield where we don’t bat deep but we have lost some winnable games. The first game against the Bullies was there to win, St Kilda was bad as was the Essendon loss (which involved the early game loss of two key players). GWS was a struggle losing narrowly to the home team. Last week was sort of predictable - key midfield players coming back for their first game after injury and Kelly, Shuey and Yeo haven’t played together much, poor team selection, plus no crowd at the last minute, and rain.
They need to have got rid of the rust in a hurry or tomorrow will be a disappointment also. We need to get on a big roll in a hurry or this will be another disappointing year. I am in the camp who thinks the game plan needs adjusting, other teams have worked it out and can unravel it.

I was with you up to Petruccelle.

Remember how excited we got with Ash Smith's pace when we drafted him........

I have come to the conclusion we should trade Petch and use that list spot on a balanced mid / forward say like a Sam Butler. Someone with good football background, good ground ball skills who just knows how and where to run and accumulate.

For a team that is desperate for midfield support from our half forwards Petch unfortunately adds none. He is a cherry on the cake player.

Somebody mentioned we are reverting to out good kicking side. That's a good point what we are missing.

Jetta, Ryan, Rioli, and prime hurn added kicking to our gamestyle. Right now we are just a vanilla kicking team with good markers. So good to see witho.

Edwards in surely. Brander stiff not to be included this week. Done a decent job as a defensive winger and would have liked to see him play that offensive role. I can see Redden playing that role this week tho
