Strong suggestions by a lot of draft watchers that Wardlaw is the #1 talent this year if not for his hammies. And if he's available I think we should take him.

Send him to see the same hammy specialist that fixed Shuey if we have to. I think the Freeman comparison is an absolute worst case (and very rare) scenario.

All draftees come with risk, whether it's their body failing, poor application, lower than expected ceiling or whatever. At least with Wardlaw the risk is glaringly obvious and (likely) fixable.
This, he is number 1 if his slides past north we grab him. I’ll trust us to have checked out those hammies pre-draft

Lots of anxiety around Pick 2, which I get because we haven't had such a high pick since 2008 (!!!), and we haven't had a great run with first rounders recently (albeit much later first rounders). Chesser injured since before we was drafted, Brander a spud (Oh for an Allen/Kelly double instead of Brander/Allen), Venables wrecked, but jeez there will be talent available at Pick 2/3 that would suit our needs perfectly.

Grab some of Junior's best and relax :moustache:

Have we all gone cold on Hewett? I was a bit critical of his output at League level but WAFL is arguably the best state league in the country and on second look his stats weren’t that bad for an 18yo.

Avg 13.6 disposals this year and went back for one ressies game after the National Championships and stuffed the stats sheet with 19k, 12h, 2m, 6t and a snag.

His game against Vic Metro, who are stacked with top end talent, was his best performance of an otherwise underwhelming Championships. I’d still be happy to have him on our list, reckon there’s a bit to work with. Some knocks on his disposal but he looks quite neat on either left or right foot (I’m amazed by the number of kids even at the elite level that still go the checkside when caught on their non-preferred foot).

If we can manufacture that second first rounder (Brisbane’s perhaps?) then I reckon he’s our man.

I’ve made up my mind on hewett. He has the potential to be the best player in this draft crop in the coming years or be off a list for his lack of consistency. At his best tho, he could be an afl great.

We just cannot in good sense pick Wardlaw. Despite what positive spin the club wants to trot out we have a sub-standard medical team that i have zero faith in to be able to get this kid right

If we are looking to take a "speculative" pick of a kid that has some injury concerns but a very high ceiling, i would be taking Phillipou

If we got Phillipou at 9 then very happy but it's also unlikely.

I would throw a tantrum if we got
9 Mackenzie
15 Hewett / Ryan / Ginbey

Hewett i'm off the train and now I see him as a pacey winger with average skills but no defensive workrate
Ryan goes okay as a balanced midfielder but needs support around him. Ideally can do better in that spot
Ginbey i'm thinking is still there at 38 not that I would want him with poor footskills

I think Hewitt is looking like a Zac Bailey type good tackler , line breaker and kicks goals..

IMO the number two pick will have huge expectation put on him from west coast fans and the wa media...they will expect the next Judd/brownlow

expecting the club to split the number two pick to be honest

No way should we expect a Judd. Hopefully the pick turns into a good player but in no way should we expect a generational player just because we have our first high end pick in 10 years.

There is the risk though he could be like Nathan Freeman. Wardlaw explodes out of the pack for west coast oh no his done his hammy again, we really need to see a medical. Or maybe he just doesn't use his explosion speed as much? Kinda lowers his ceiling though doesn't it. Explosion plus hammy prone. 🤔I still like wards and think he is worth a go. But recurring hammies cannot be ignored, we must acknowledge he is the most injury prone risk of the top picks. Plus eagles are already a very injury prone team.

I like Clark a lot. Not against him being pick 2 actually. It's pretty close between wardlaw, Cadman, Tsatas and Clark imo. I like Clark's goalkicking.

Does Sheezel have scope to become a mid? I also think the club would be making sure if the homesick rumours are true and wont take the punt if he is going to have a winge.

He has already played as a midfielder for Sandringham and done well in that role.

Sandringham have a pretty loaded midfield with Ashcroft, Mackenzie and Hotten so Sheezel has only been required to do a chop out role as a mid.
He did so very well.
There was a period when the Private School boys were not available and that’s when Sheezel was given a sustained run as a midfielder.
Think of Le Cras pre popping his knee, where he was given midfield chop out minutes.
Sheezel is just so dangerous around the goals and all point inward from the 50 meter arc.
He is a one touch player that just doesn’t fumble the ball, such players can play in most positions.

Like has been said numerous times before he is a Steve J clone.

If we grab him, and I hope we do, the go homes no biggie for me as we'd get back as good as we used and probably more.
Once he settles hopefully he loves the place.

Monocole with your preference being Sheezel, if Nth or another club grabbed pick one and took Sheezel would our safest bet be to try and live trade down and grab a McKenzie or Phillipou or Clarke somewhere between pick 5-10.
Or would you stay at pick 2 and grab Warlaw?

Wat.

Shuey's hammy's are far from "fixed". They are made of tissue paper, along with his calves.

He's one sprint away from being back on the sidelines IMO.

I wouldn't be sending Wardlaw anywhere near our S&C team or any specialist associated with the club. We've arguably got the worst track record in the competition for keeping players on the park at the moment.

He’s sounding more and more like pick 1. Either to North or to whoever they split pick 1 with

Well pick 2 in reality but you know what I mean

That is literally the point I was addressing. My entire post was addressing this.
Are you trolling me?
No not at all. I liked your post. I agree with a lot of what you say. I like Wardlaw.just emphasising the hammies are a risk. Sorry if it came across that way. I'm very torn on the picks after Sheezel in case you hadn't noticed, it's a tough call for me glad I'm not making it.

You expect supporters of the club that regularly criticises the bloke who came back from 2 knee reconstructions to win back to back Woosha Medals and AA selections, that shat on the career of the bloke taken with the pick 3 we got for Judd despite said player playing over 200 games and a premiership, and the mature aged rookie who went on to add a Brownlow to his Sandover, to give this new kid a bit of a break?

Played 17 games this year. Seems like he's over them.

Well yeah but was it just some other punters shooting the s**t and draft speculating?
I went and asked who it was saying it (was talking to someone I knew) and it was Freo recruiting officer David Walls. Yes he was speculating but was pretty matter of fact about it when I heard.

Best player available and by some margin.....I like that info.

Enjoy your night and the Uber home after a few :beermug::beermug::beermug:.

Must say I am a bit envious of you, being able to attend the Brownlow.
Paying for it today, monster hangover. Tried my best to do a Fev.

Barely saw the Eagles players all night, but saw Tom Barrass at the after party. He's a legend, said other players were pussies and went to bed. haha
