Collingwood are self destructing

I wouldn't say they're interesting. Just overrated and run by an out of date administration. Another non year of finals. A wasted list. A coach who, well, can't coach. A president who can't stay out of hot water. Two overrated recruits in treloar and aish. A captain out of sorts and a key position forward playing VFL.

Coming from a Melbourne supporter??? I read this an hour ago but have only just stopped laughing. The laughing stock of the competition for the last 15 years. How many top 20 draft picks are you going to stuff up this year??

Who it comes from is irrelevant mate. Facts are facts. This thread is about you, not us.

The biggest concern is that a side that is getting flogged on a weekly basis, can't get 5 proven premiership players in good enough form to play senior footy. To blame the players would be OK if it was 2. But 5. 5 premiership players who can't get a game in a genuinely deplorable footy team. 5 premiership players plus a supposed gun midfielder who they paid plenty for in Aish. I'm certain that at a healthy club with good coaching - say hawthorn, Norf, geelong - those 6 players would all be playing quality senior afl footy.

So to summise.

Coaching is so poor they're unable to get 6 quality footballers playing well enough to get a game in a genuinely shit team
President has yet again proven he belongs on the set of kingswoods country, not heading up a multi million dollar business.
To fix the coaching problem they face a multi million dollar payout due to a rash impulsive resigning, which must make the new board that comes in to fix this car crash of a club ask whether pert is the right man to fix the problems they have.

But as many have already said, I for one hope they change nothing.

Not really sure about that, Goldsack, Toovey, Macaffer and Brown were hardly champion players, they were ok role players in a good team but that's about it. Can't really see the first three at least getting a game at Hawthorn. Brown is a pretty good shut down defender though, should be playing ahead of Frost. Aish will come back in soon, was in the VFL to get some form and confidence behind him and has been very good. Not that what we don't have many major issues, but those players you mention aren't part of our future, they just aren't very good.

Why are they on the list then? They've been retained ahead of other players who've been specifically exited. Surely "depth" is the only explanation and in an injury ravaged year they should therefore be playing.

not self destructing but being severely damaged by Eddies ego. they allowed him to make himself way too important at the club.
Way to important in the league I would say. Throwing his weight around like some tin pot dictator.

Although we should respect him because he has a mansion and $50k to spend on dunking female journalists.

This is a ridiculous post. In a season where Collingwood are bereft of leadership on the ground, and are getting pumped on a weekly basis, you have 5 players who were good enough to be members of the best team in the country, which means they also have leadership to at least some degree. They're also old heads who could and should be helping lead the kids. And as mentioned, if they're genuinely shit and there for depth, I'm a year where Collingwood keep screaming about their massive injury list, why are they not playing? They're not playing because the coaching staff are so shit that they can't get 6 quality footballers playing afl standard footy. It's a scary indictment on not only Buckley, but all his coaching staff.

The place is a rabble and will get worse before it improves.

They are depth players, but they haven't performed well enough to stay in the team this year and young players have been preferred. Toovey and Macaffer especially look about finished after coming back from serious injuries. You could blame Buckley for Cloke maybe, but I don't really think he's ruined players who were limited players to start with.

Of course we're a rabble and our coaching staff are not performing, just thought picking these players out is a little odd. Can't remember Goldsack, Toovey or Macaffer ever being called 'quality players' by opposition supporters before.

Anyway Brown should be playing so you're right about that, that's more about terrible selection than how he's playing.

McGuire's foot in mouth has become a fixture in the footy calendar. His gaffs are sucking up everyone's time, embarrassing the club and the league and making sponsors think twice. The board should take control, put him on notice and nominate a successor and a timetable. The whole footy community is tired of his puerile 1950s schtick.

Imagine where they'd be if not for Mason Cox? They'd be forced to play an out of form Cloke. Pretty damning for the biggest club in the afl that their focus player hadn't even picked up a footy 'til 3 years ago. And they have to hand over their first rounder? Complacency & hubris at work at the Pies.

I think Eddie is still a top notch president. He is proven, knows his business, and can bounce back. If the chips are down (as they are at Collingwood), you want Eddie in your corner. He operates better when his back is to the wall. Very shrewd operator.

Buckley on the other hand. He isn't proven, is not getting consistent results, and players are clearly disgruntled.

And Holden are pretty much a non factor. The future of Collingwood doesn't hinge on Holden ending their sponsorship.

But they've fallen down on his watch. It's his job to ensure that the chips stay up.

Elliott reigned supreme at Carlton for 20 years , delivering premierships and wealth during his tenure .
His love of the Blues was/is undeniable but in the end , he stayed too long and the club payed a horrible price .
His mouth , ego , and refusal to change with the times saw it all come crashing down !!

Food for thought ...

Re those six quality footballers in the VFL, given you've listed Geelong as one of the clubs with good enough coaching to get them firing, what would you offer us in trade for any of Cloke, Brown, Macaffer, Goldsack or Toovey?

I mean, as you say, they're proven premiership players and it's certainly not that they're old/crocked by injury, it's all Nathan's fault, so I imagine they would worth a bit.

Your team has barely climbed out from under its rock, and here you are.
Careful you may find that dark place again quicker than you would like.

Alot of blues fans got a lot to say...

You would think that a supporters of a club that has self destructed, would end up recognizing the signs of another self destructing club quickly.

Food for thought. :)

business wise collingwood need him, even Gary Pert has acknowledged this on a few occasions. Eddie having a national profile, brings sponsors & greater expositor for the pies & gives them a loud voice in the community. the biggest problem is Eddies ego & inability to deal with his love child Buckley

Exactly and apart from leaving Australia Holden aren't going anywhere, the line about reviewing the sponsorship is just PR to distance themselves from the comments

It might affect future sponsorship though.
Eddie has done a terrific job at Collingwood, but I feel like there needs to a breath of fresh air though the place. He has been there since 1999, and it's really starting to show.

Collingwood's horror 2016 season has shown the club is in complete disarray.

  • Ed's presidency is now no longer tenable,
  • Holden have just announced they are looking to end their sponsorship
  • Buckley needs to be moved on. The team looks totally disorganised
The dominos need to start falling at Collingwood, starting with ed and Nathan.

Only a clean out from the top can stop things getting worse at Collingwood.
I agree mostly.

Eddie needs an expiry date. The club needs a fresh set of eyes and a lower profile Pres to get down and dirty. Whether that's next year or in a couple. But he won't bail while we are crap.

Holden are probably being opportunistic with this review. If they are making decisions based on Twitter uproar they are a bigger rabble than us, and they can go sponsor one of the new women's teams if they want to win feminist business.

Bucks is done. A solid independent interview process should take place if we can't lure a Roos, Simpson or Longmire.
