Don’t know about the suns but I reckon Carlton having a crack at him in the mid season trade period next year to win a flag with his brother is a massive chance.
Can see it now…

Both McGovern brothers fly for an intercept mark. They both make contact with each other and fall to the ground. The camera switches to the two walking gingerly off the ground, both grimacing. One taking the weight off his shoulder and the other clutching his ribcage/kidney

Yep, pretty straight forward we just don’t have the capital or age profile for Baker.
But we have the money.

Baker's only 26, he could expect six to seven more years, by which point we'd bloody well be playing finals. Freo have the better pick, they can offer 16 whereas our second round pick is 19-22, but if we have the money and he nominates us, doesn't matter which pick Freo offers.

The trouble is, our second rounder probably gets pushed back to around 26, 27.

The only advantage we have over Freo at this stage is money I think.

Lions will probably want to trade our future first round pick for one of those end of first round PP’s, live on draft night, after matching the Ashcroft bid.
Would that be the pick currently held by the Suns by chance? Give your team a second kicking the first round spoon and help the Suns shift another great pick forward a year! Sound familiar to anyone?

We do, but I don’t see Baker or Clarke ripping off Richmond. The club surely isn’t going to split out 1R to get Baker. Our 2R will be 25ish and I think we’d rather use that on Buss. F2 might be put on the table but again Richmond would knock that back. Baker for Freo’s middle 1R pick is where I reckon it’s going to land. Would much rather use free agency to get 26yo.

If we could convince him to sign with Richmond for one more year through to FA then offer him a band 1 contract THAT would be enticing for both clubs. Probably ends up pick 4-6 for Richmond and nothing draft wise for us.

Would you sign a one year deal and risk an injury and losing out on a big multi year contract?

That is such a nothing article. Freo has better draft hand blah blah blah. They must be better placed blah blah blah. Copium at its finest.
Interesting about carltons big push for irish players
Wonder if we're very active over there? A good way to spend some of the money we apparently have

First pick of round 2 is currently pick 21, because of the two future end of first round PP's handed to North last year.

Can't see him signing a 1 year deal TBH.

If he was concerned about FA, he could've factored that in when he signed his last deal.

Freo is looking more and more likely.
Agree with all this. 95% he’s going to Freo if he leaves. The above was a situation where if Baker was desperate to come to us that both us and the Tigers would do very well, obviously comes with risk to Baker but gets his club and his cash.

Sydney hold one, Gold Coast hold the other. But yes, the Suns will probably be wanting to load up on picks for the 2025 draft. They potentially have 4 first round talents in their academy for next year. Zeke Uwland, Dylan Patterson, Jai Murray and Beau Addinsall. Murray is a Harley Reid clone in looks and game style.

Disagree on both fronts. Baker would be a very good addition at WC as a senior player in the age group WC lack quality in.

And if he chooses to go down the road - then I imagine that would have ramifications for kids like Johnson and Erasmus who are now either playing out of preferred position or not at all and waiting for the likes of Fyfe & Omeara to retire & or be perma injured.

Congratulations on plucking Reid from obscurity in the draft, Bond. What a find! Kudos to the team for turning a junk pick into rolled gold 🙌

Glad to see our recruiting staff are smart enough to see his qualities even if some of the nuffies on here aren’t.

The difficult job will be finding something that the tigers are happy to accept without compromising our draft position.
