You're arguing 2 different things

The players i listed were in response to

If youre simply just bagging the talent available in the MSD, how the hell does it not make sense to just grab the guy we think has the most talent, regardless of position?
Because we have absolutely no idea who has the most talent. It’s all pure gambling. We are comparing players in completely different leagues at completely different ages.

The only real certainty is what role they are likely to play at AFL level.

Have to say this comment really pi**ed me off when Hopkins and Beecken were available. Instead we’re going to try and turn a 22yo HFF with a good mark into a HBF!?

Beecken wasn’t taken until pick 17 by Brisbane and Hopkins went undrafted so it wasn’t just our recruiters who passed on that pair

Suspect we’ve just taken best available rather than positional needs as any player taken in the MSD is going to have deficiencies in their game

We get 18 months to look at him in an AFL system to see if he’s any good

And at 22 he’s in an age bracket we lack on our list

Not excited at all to be going to North lmao

If he was genuinely upset about being drafted by North then I’d say that is a pretty ordinary attitude. Sure North is a dumpster fire, but this isn’t a Harley Reid talent we are talking about, it’s a kid who was passed over by every club in the comp a few months ago. Now he gets to be on an AFL list and make about $100k a year playing professional footy, which is pretty good coin for a 19 year old, and if he plays well and actually wants to leave North he will be in high demand.

I mean the Eagles have been hot garbage the past two years, especially 2023, but neither Maric nor Culley seemed anything other than ecstatic to get a chance at AFL, even if it meant moving across the country.

Is Jeremy Howe and good comparison to Jack Hutchinson ? I haven’t seen him play but same size and a high flyer that can play across half back aswell

These are all fair comments, just felt having a look at Beecken or preferably Hopkins for 6 months to play a role we absolutely lack would have been the best use of the MSD for us. Still think Hopkins will find his way onto an AFL list.

In saying that our recruiters clearly rated Jack as the best available talent and I hope he has a long and distinguished career as an Eagle. He’s come to the club at a very exciting time.

New Collingwood player might not have a big enough ego to play there…

As i was scrolling the page i'm just like "oh noooo, he made his own site for himself.... and describes himself in the third person... oooof"

A very savvy selection on our part -
a country boy 🥁
has lived in Perth before so knows the ropes 🥁
lots of upside and development ahead of him 🥁

Very happy with the selection. And you can never have too many Jacks.

It’s like he had to make a website about his hobbies for a school project and then enjoyed it so much he thought he’d market himself a bit

Johnston’s from bayside Melb I think
Played for the same club as Archer Reid so they should know each other.

3. West Coast - Jack Hutchinson

Collingwood VFL
Medium forward
190cm
10/11/01

An exciting, powerful explosive medium forward who has become a highlights reel in the VFL this season. Was recruited to Collingwood's VFL team this season after playing from Wonthaggi,
