Pick would be the same as what if he goes to the Cats?
I’m keeping Waterman, but if they are going down that road of letting him go. I think their first this year is committed for Smith so they will want to trade their future first and could be very close to band 2 at worst.

Might as well risk it and keep him and let him likely get us band 1.

Honestly, I recon the club knows we need more high end picks and was willing for the wolves to circle for barrass and waterman knowing either of them would get us what we need.

If both go then we will have an absolute boon of first round picks, but I suspect they'll let one go and then renegotiate the others contract.

Barrass 2 firsts or we hold his contract.
Waterman high first or we hold his contract.

Waterman - high first plus change

Waterman was always going to test the market as we signed him on at this lowest value. He'd have a few suitors offering a decent increase.
Paul Peos is a straight shooter and told the club if he had a good year would be looking to get a extension on better money
but it was up to Waterman to perform this year
Which he has done

I reckon Smith is joining Collingwood myself . I know it got rubbished earlier on in the year but with Pendles/Howe going around I can’t see them just going into 2025 with the same list.

I know I’d be in the minority but I’d be moving Oscar before Jake, you’d get far more and I don’t trust Oscar health wise.

You could let Oscar walk next year via free agency and get band 1 compo at a minimum.

I agree Oscar needs to have a huge preseason and show he can actually play a 24 game season

Hard to get a trade done with no first and Dogs probably want to get into this draft of assets to trade. They might be happy to play the long game due to having a good list already

Pies don’t have a first rounder, and won’t be giving up their future first anytime soon after the Schultz disaster

From the players that were set to expire:

we delisted Foley, O'Neill, Clark, West, Winder, SPS (6)

resigned Petch, Waterman, JWilliams, Culley, Witherden (5)

We have picks 3, 23, and 59 prior to any trades (e.g. Barrass) or pick splits occurring.

Only 7 of the 12 listed are on the senior list, and you would expect HEdwards to be re-signed, so that leaves 6 open positions in the national draft, again prior to any incoming traded players.

This isn't as unrealistic as you think it is
So we signed on 5/11? Only 4/12 seems less likely.

Barrass isn’t going anywhere so find it very hard to believe we are going to acquire many more good picks.

I think it’s a chance of happening but not super likely like you are suggesting. We will just be replacing crap with crap if we do.

I think Bailey Smith won’t give a crap about Dogs wants and is simply going to choose Collingwood cos that’s who he wants. Doggies just take the future 1st and run off in a annoyed state

That and we are selling him at peak value at a declining age. However we haven't reaped the rewards of investing in Jake, and we are a 3+ goal side with him in
Barrass is only ideal trade bait because the interested Vic clubs are so desperate for a really solid key defender they would pay obscene amounts for one

It's not simply a matter of 'oh they want a tall so just chuck them a tall'

If we cut 8 we can only bring 7 in, we’re one player over the limit as a result of Long being inactive.

Pick 3
Pick 23
Pick 59 (hopefully used to match a bid on Champion)
One cheap traded-in player (eg Garcia or Carroll)
One DFA/PSD/late pick
Two rookies.

That’s 7, without considering priority picks, a Barrass trade generating picks, trading for more 2024 picks, or getting English as a free agent.
Yeah good point that we are one player over currently.

Three of those seven are still shit rookie picks. Picks we havnt really used in the past.

We didn’t delist 8 when we had similar numbers out of contract so we shall see.

IMO death riding Geelong in 2025 holding their 1st would be one crazy ride. They have a old list that will be getting younger very quickly. History says thats not a great bet to take against them, they just bounce back.

And with tin foil hat on the Cats could be playing 4 D Chess trading long game. Offer Waterman a big contract and lure over a father son Eagle. Next is a Vic Country kid who goes alright coming out of contract.

Does $ trump loyalty?

And do Vic clubs who do trade for any of our players behave themselves to a degree because they dont want to burn bridges if in the near future a certain Vic kid did look for a trade?

He might not but that’s normally how it works. Managers normally only open to teams who they know can get the deal done.

Like I said though the manager might know if the Dogs are happy to get a pick for next years draft instead with the chance it might be top again

Midweek tackle - Barass will get to Hawks and cost one late first rounder.
That must mean he is worth a top 5 picks in real life. Those wastes of oxygen always half the value of any player that plays for either Eagles or Fremantle. Fremantle especially. Their take on Lachie Schultz trade should be in a time capsule for these dumbasses

Eagles will always have the money at this stage.

Waterman I think just wants to cash in on his year. Rumoured to be on only $400-$450k a year. Playing at double that value so smart by him and his manager.

Will get extended on the right $. You don’t let 25yo talk forwards walk out the door. What rebuild does that? It would be like the Hawks walked Sicily when they started their rebuild. Hard to find replacements
