Good point

It would be prudent to get 13 plus whatever for Barrass from Hawthorn then see what other clubs put on the table for it before handing it over to Richmond

Sydney with 17 and 19 for example might be interested trading up. Keep 17 and send 19 to Richmond. Trade becomes Baker and 17 for 13

That’s just one example, there’ll be plenty of others

Awfully close to 13 for baker and 21.

Assuming Sydney would do that trade, which I can’t see why they would at all. Why would they give up a first rounder to move 4 spots? That can only happen on draft night if a player they rated at say top 5 is still available.

All other offers for GC 12 are about the points. If we wish to trade for junkier picks, then sure. So not sure about “plenty of others” that wouldn’t severely dilute what we have.

Ever heard the saying a star team will always beat a team of stars?
Yes but I don't think that applies to this discussion and that also implies the star team is operating at an elite level to win.

Many players aren't "elite" but can operate at elite levels for a period of time. We saw mark hutching play beyond himself and his usual standards in 2018.

The point is you need players operating at elite levels whatever that is above your opponents to win a flag. Having role players alone isn't going to get it done although they are needed yes.

I'm also not denying you need a defence that is elite. We saw in 2006 our forward line wasn't elite but because of our midfield and defence we won and should have won in 2005.

Not bad. That doesn't leave us in much of a different place though. Effectively Barrass for Baker and the Hawks' first.

Would love to try and get our hands on GC pick 12. Not sure how we get it done.

But if we can manage to get 12 along with Pick 13 and a F1 from Hawthorn for Barrass and F3.

Trade 12 and 13 to Richmond for 6 and Baker. Maybe we throw in a few sweeteners.

Would allow us to get best midfielder available at 3, hopefully either Jagga or Draper. Then Travaglia at 6.

Richmond potentially wouldn't do this, it may have to be pick 9, where we could still maybe get TT pending StK compensation.

Geelong: Joel Selwood, Isaac Smith, Mark blicavs, Patrick Dangerfield, Rhys Stanley

Collingwood: Nick daicos, side bottom, Pendlebury, Josh daicos, hoskin Elliot, degoey.

None of those are a+ are they.
Lol

What year?

If we are talking 2023 then Nick Daicos yes.

Selwood and Smith had dropped off A+ status when the Cats won the flag in 2022.

Stop being disingenuous and moving the goal posts.

Pendlebury wasn't A+ when Pies won. He was previously but not in 2023.

Ryse Stanley? Really. Hosking-Elliot. Lol.

If we move ArcherReid to chb and the addition of hewett to the Midfield means we wouldn't need 2nd round picks this year. In that range, we'd overlook Mraz/ofarrel/davies/hynes who'd be around our 2nd pick and I'd be OK with that assuming we use 23 to leverage GC pick 12. 58 and 59 would be perfect picks for developing back Barrat/dennis and developing small fwd Malakai. Play hard ball on both barass and baker deals and try trade up into GC pick 12. Essentially I'm trying to trade quality over quantity. I think this draft hand would complete our key back needs for the future, Add some polish and speed to the Midfield and add in a couple of mature bodies who have very good defensive nous to let the tk, ryan and hr9 types excel. Our 2025 afl draft hand isn't hamstrung either which is just as important because the rebuild will take a couple more years.

Barass + f3 for 13 and Hawks F1
Darling for pick 58
Trade 3 to Rich for 6 and baker
Trade 23 and Hawks F1 for GC pick 12

In:
6 - best mid available
12 - Lindsay or Travaglia
13 - Tauru
58 - developing kpb Dennis/Barrat
59 - developing small fwd Champion
(FA) Graham
(Trade) Baker

Out:
Barass
Darling
F3

Round 2
Round 4

I don't think we will get Hawks F1. Even for a swap of our F2. Its too much of a risk for them. Just look at what happened to the pies this year.
With all the academy/FS and FA compensation picks it could be a top 10 pick for a pick around 30.

I'd be happy with 13&30 for him. Offer 30 for Baker and then wait until the last moment and accept a trade for 23 which is about right.
So Barrass and 23 for Baker, 13 & 30 seems pretty good for us.

As someone who likes to hold grudges, “Suck on that Port” or should it be “Houston we have a problem”

Their trading strategy was based on getting Perryman for free and allowing them to auction off Houston. If the want Lukosius, they will need to trade Houston.

Salty over Ebert and Rioli? I will own that. Port make their harbour cousins Freo look like decent folks

Going after Warner next year we are probably not going to get a chance at Fred Rodriguez, Greeves, or Dyson Sharp.

What’s everyone’s opinion on this ?
This concerns me, at this stage, the top end next year is projecting better than this year. Honestly, I would feel more comfortable trading pick 3 this year for Richmond's F1 next, than the other way around.

Don’t understand the emphasis on OOC.

A player still has to be cleared by his old club to get to where he wants to go to unless he goes to the PSD which virtually never happens.

So there is not really any advantage to being OOC, the only players who can be cleared free of trading and bargaining are unrestricted free agents.
When hes OOC the player is leaving anyway, the old club cant demand big overs like Sydney would do this year. It just brings them back to market price

Are you seriously suggesting that a midfield consisting of Nick Daicos, Tom Mitchell, Jordan De Goey, Scott Pendlebury, Jack Crisp, Taylor Adams and Josh Daicos is not elite?

That was a trade I had in mind when I posted and if last year is anything to go by then Sydney might be interested.

13 for 17 + 19

then

17 + 22 (Band 3) for Baker and 29.

So 13 for 19, 29 and Baker is suddenly very palatable and I think Richmond would be pretty keen on turning Baker and 29 into 17 and 22 as well.

Really depends what's on our whiteboard, on face value it's horrible. If westcoast rate hamish davis or Hynes as good as any pick at 13 (let's say lindsay) then they'll do the deal and get Baker + davis for 13 and they'd consider that a win. Like you I agree 13 for baker is a shocker

Magpies went all-in after him once J.Noble made it clear he wants to move to Gold Coast.

H.Perryman despite being a NSW product, grew up a Collingwood supporter and that seems to have clinched the deal.

Collingwood gain a player upgrade in addition to a likely second round pick (for J.Noble).

Puts a spanner in Port's plans for the trade period. With I.Cumming choosing Adelaide they don't have a ready replacement for the trade of D.Houston to facilitate picks for J.Lukosius.

With H.Perryman and I.Cumming both out the door through RFA and J.Peatling subject to a bidding war by half of the competition, GWS are shaping to have six picks between 20 and 50, in addition to their current pick 14.

Expect to see them looking to combine picks and trade up.

If Kayle Gerreyn is still available wherever pick 23 ends up he'd be a great option. Moves well for 199cm, clean hands, sharp reflexes and a great leg. In his highlights he looks to play on and get the ball moving too. Could be developed to replace Gov, who was also a forward / ruck at colts level.

So 13 for peatling, 25 and 52?
