Problem with Bryan is having to deal with Essendon who are notorious campaigners at trade time.

He’s contracted for next year and they don’t have any other depth behind Draper (Phillips is almost certainly done) so they won’t be letting him go without a fight.
Hopefully Dodoro does a 'everything must go'/'we are slashing prices across our whole range' type closing down sale on his way out the door after the trade period.

Just read this article from Kane Cornes.
And first thing I thought is.

Come on Brayden Ainsworth.
It's time to let it go son.😂
Full article

He’s obviously just gone to Footywire or wherever and it’s listed all the top ups as players coming out of contract.

I've been there before. Got caught out a few times on here for mentioning out of contract top ups haha

If we don't resign Declan Mountford and Luke Meadows, I'm done with this club.

I look at Rioli and Ryan as very highly skilled and they can and do run both ways BUT when the game plan is crap, when the midfield is that poor it gives such a lopsided inside 50 count, they struggle and looking from afar (as do many other Eagles) to be less interested. This I suspect is the top of the iceberg. I sense they reflect the team spirit.

I sense that Simmo has not got a united or switched on team. Shuey looks to be an appalling choice as captain and leader. His nickname became known as "Chingy" after the 2018 grand final. "Hey team, look at me". Everything I have read on the new era of sporting leadership is not about personal glorification. That is why Dangerfield has not always been liked or valued as a leader.

The malaise has been there for at least 2 seasons. Covid in 2022 and injury are just excuses. When Simpson was challenge on the poor attitude in 2021, he said that they had dealt with it. I probably think that they had discussed it but failed to fix it. Dealing with in my mind is observing, identifying the cause and correcting it. I am not sure how much faith the 2022 rehab team of Allen, Sheed, Yeo and Chesser have with our S&G team. It all takes its toll.

The spirit the team played with against Norf and Collingwood showed what a freshness of approach looks like.

Why the lack of team spirit in 2021/22? I can think of a few. Monster long term contracts to a select few while the rest get the scraps. Credits in the bank. Lack of integrity at the selection table. Poor choice of captain who is not a natural leader of men, more a bloody good soldier when fit.

WRT to Shuey playing on - get to the hbf or the hff and show the Boak and Pendlebury type leadership with team and development needs coming first. Redden in his statement about WAFL is more of what I want to hear.

Interestingly that Barrass was impressive in his recent interview and shows clear leader.

So Shuey playing on cannot do so as captain. He also needs to be an option to have a stint in the midfield. I would be giving the main midfield to Culley, Kelly, Hough, Chesser, XON and Sheed. It does feel like it is missing a bull. Then that will tell the Pieman exactly what we need to prioritise this draft. I think it should be Yeo but his body is saying no to permanent midfield.

Yeo, Redden, Gaff and Shuey are needing to be subordinated. We will be better in the long run with Yeo on the HBF and Shuey on the HFF and having stints in the midfield. I have no idea what I want Gaff to be doing. I also know Redden extending will be OK.

Shuey has missed so much football I actually would have liked to to play wafl these last two games to show a) leadership b) a connect between the wafl team and afl team c) build further into next year .. he could play a minor role- half back or forward pocket just something…

I actually think its telling the experienced guys have clocked off and if not injured would have liked to see a couple of them play.. ryan could play, rioli could play..

Agree with all of that Miguel.

Never the less it doesn't quell the hope, however its similar to me looking with desire at Margot Robbie ........ nice thought, but sadly thats about all it will ever be.

My # 1 target to recruit, to help our ruck stocks, going forward, would still be Lloyd Meek.

Not sure who would be more difficult to deal with Adrian Dodoro, or Feathers in His Cap.

Nickname being Chingy is a bit OK Boomer of you. People shout out clang clang to every player at or local club that wins best on in a GF

Alternatively, the sooner they take their break the sooner they can come back and get into pre-season.

I think Dodoro will be shown the door after this year, he's just the sort of ego to actually go **** you Essendon and actually trade for unders. In normal circumstances I couldn't pick with who I would prefer to deal with but this year it may actually be Essendon....

Adam Simpson and West Coast will look to make headway with Junior Rioli’s new contract on Friday, with the Eagles coach hopeful of inking a new deal for his premiership star across the coming weeks. Rioli looms among the biggest names yet to re-sign for 2023, along with Nic Naitanui, Shannon Hurn and Jack Redden, as West Coast plot their list moves after a horror season.

But the Eagles remain confident Rioli will stay as the 27-year-old weighs up his next deal. “It’s actually what we’re going through today,” Simpson told SEN on Friday morning. “It’s not done... but I’m hoping we can get it done in the next few weeks. “There’s always a bit to work through with Junior and where he’s at. “What he’s gone through this year and the last three or four years... it’s been a massive challenge for him and the footy club, to be honest. It’s been a process that we’ve gone through together.” Rioli endured a challenging year in his return to AFL football after two seasons on the sidelines due to his 2019 ban for tampering with a urine sample.

The 2018 premiership player highlighted his importance by kicking three goals and dishing off a goal assist in each of West Coast’s two wins for the year. But he was down on his best form for the remainder of his 11 appearances, adding just eight goals and three assists while also pushing up the ground for midfield stints. Rioli also dealt with the recent loss of his father, taking time away from the club and changing his name across the next 12 months to honour cultural protocols.

When asked if Rioli ‘owed’ the Eagles for standing by him through his suspension, Simpson responded: “I don’t know that it’s ‘owe’ the footy club - that’s probably not the right word. “We’ve backed him in. That’s what we’ve done. We’ve tried to look after his health and wellbeing, primarily, for the last two-and-a-half years.”

Simpson quashed the notion that some players would be fighting for their careers across the coming two matches at WAFL level, with as many as 14 AFL-listed players in contention to line up for West Coast’s reserves side. “You don’t really look at it that way. The body of work that all of our players have done the past two or three years is sort of there,” he said.

The Eagles will hold their John Worsfold Medal count on Friday night, with All-Australian squad member Tom Barrass the favourite to take home the main prize for the first time

Few - it can vary for many but I think of a few as 5 or more. So great insights from Simmo - telling the fans that Junior's contract will be sorted out before trade week.

Agree, and I think it's too close to the trade and draft period , for the rabble to make the change this year, but likewise I find it hard to believe that he would survive the purge.

One can only hope 🤞, that Dodoro does a "Scott Clayton" as he departs and we are the beneficiaries.

If we’re not into him our 2nd pick will be worth a fortune to someone

That doesn't surprise me at all, as I have him rated as the most talented kid in this years cohort.
I think he will become one of the competitions future stars.

He, The Gunslinger and Clark, are the three safest, bust proof picks in this draft IMO.

Racking up these kind of numbers playing off a flank is pretty amazing. Can’t see why we wouldn’t just take him ourselves if North passed, but I also read on another team board that only 2 clubs are yet to speak to him at this stage - Geelong and us.

Geelong? Lol. Why bother? Maybe they are handing out housing brochures and land packages for when he comes out of contract.

For players to lead onto basically means he's kicking to an area not directly onto the chest. His key weaknesses are kicking under pressure and at speed. He needs time to balance to use his good kicking.

If im being generous a faster Macrae but I still have Polec as a junior vibes about him.
I haven't seen a lot, but he seems far more built and more physical than Polec. Also less blinkers... probably to his detriment as I think he could stand to take oppo on more with ball in hand...

I remember Darling his last junior year. Looked slow, unathletic playing seniors at west perth. Perhaps the bulking up that Hewett has done (which he definitely has) in the offseason has taken away some of the speed and explosiveness, and he will adjust in a pro environment... Same might be true for Broadbent.

Covid and asma slowed him down in 2022 as well.
