If the leadup of Tsatas to the draft continues as well I would still much rather and think we would get a better offer from GC. They are going to lose concessions, likely multiple list spaces and from what I know are likely to only make 2 live picks. This is why there is the rumour of second round picks being attached to players for very cheap trades, not due to salary cap. They either need to get contracted players off their books or lose some of their academy talent they have picked up through the concessions. The better offer only really comes if they do end up with the lions first round pick however.
We would have to consider Fiorini if they were throwing in a second round pick wouldn't we? Any other GC player names getting thrown around?

It's hard to say but if Tsatas finishes off his season at his level on the weekend with the Kangas stacked inside young talent I think he goes pick 1. I also think it's why rumours of the hawks trading with us are floating about.

If that is the case however I would want to make that trade before the draft, not on the night.

I agree. They may need KPPs, and already have balanced and inside mids, so either Sheezel or Tsatas makes sense. Tsatas would compliment LDU and JHF.

I have a feeling Hewitt could be tired, BIG year in his life, year 12, a lot of s**t changing around him, add in playing LEAGUE footy against men unlike most others in colts/u18, then going to state champs and carrying an extremely average team, then coming back to league footy is rough
I remember Darling his last junior year. Looked slow, unathletic playing seniors at west perth. Perhaps the bulking up that Hewett has done (which he definitely has) in the offseason has taken away some of the speed and explosiveness, and he will adjust in a pro environment... Same might be true for Broadbent.

For players to lead onto basically means he's kicking to an area not directly onto the chest. His key weaknesses are kicking under pressure and at speed. He needs time to balance to use his good kicking.

If im being generous a faster Macrae but I still have Polec as a junior vibes about him.
This is exactly what I said about him - needs to slow down in final few strides to balance his kicking. Shuey uses a burst to clear the stoppage and then settles to balance himself.

Kicking at speed, his kicks go really high and to no where. Saying that he kicks to an area for forwards to lead on is very very generous...

assume this has been posted, but has us taking Tsatas
I don't think North will take Wardlaw unless they are confident JHF leaves - and I don't think he will with Clarko on board. To compliment what they have, they should be looking at Tsatas or Sheezel, with Busslinger an outside chance.

I did read a while back on the North board one of the posters claimed his son knew Sheezel from school and was told by GWS that if he was still there at their pick that they would take him. If Hawthorn wanted Sheezel bad enough, they’d have to pony up something bloody handsome for our pick 2. I don’t think it’s beyond the realms of possibility we end up with DGB and pick 6 for our pick 2 and maybe a 2nd round pick. Or even trade them a contracted Rotham if he’s not happy.

Is there a chance NicNat hasnt signed yet cause the club is chasing a Meek or a Sweet who could come in and play No.1 Ruck, then Nicnat could retire. Potentially only having surgery to clean up, fix niggle in case he has to go round again? He looks cooked and knows he's not winning a flag with us.

Nic re-signing for us is a formality

The guy is about to have a family and despite been well paid will undoubtedly want some cash coming in. There is no chance he will leave Perth

The only real question is how much we are paying him. To me, assuming he gets back to even close to his best, at his age, $500,000 seems fair. I would wager his management is targeting $600-700k though

I don't think Nic Nat being around would stop Meek or Sweet coming. They know we have to play two rucks with Nic Nat, so they'll play next year, and he's probably done then as well.

Honestly we should tell Nic Nats management it's $500k or we delist.

His body has proved he is nowhere near the 600-700k amount anymore and is pretty selfish if he thinks that.
It's time we put the clubs future first.
Our seniors need to get a reality check when it comes to money they earn.
We sitting 2nd last because of them not performing. They are not superstars anymore and shouldn't be demanding anything.

K Langdon on Sunday says being forced into retirement due to degenerative knee as a rumour ...since Nic has had the minor surgery but we certainly need to draft one more ruckman .

I agree he will re-sign, but he'll have cash coming in whether he's playing or in retirement (from Channel 7 and any other number of suitors).

Nick Bryan from Bombers being discussed as one who may seek options elsewhere.

I rate him as being better than Draper by the time 2024 starts (needs one more year).

Might be the perfect succession for Nic.

We could pull him away at a good price with their attention elsewhere.
I like him as well, will be a good player when he fills out.

The thing is Nic is still the one player getting all the ambassador money. If say next year he's on 500k thats actually only 200k out of our salary cap. There's really no other Ambassador eligible or deserving type player so in real terms if he can go on, would you rather have Nic taking 200k out of the salary cap or not being around at all?

But what is his output?? 20 metre kicks, kickouts to the right of screen and handballs to others under pressure. The odd intercept mark is hardly irreplaceable. Only once this year( and I remember because it stood out against gold coast ) he got the ball backward of centre, played on ,kicked it long and it led to a goal. He should be doing that all the time instead of every time sideways or backwards

His body use and intercept marking was important in the back half of the season. Happy to replace him but not with a Witherdon/ Nelson type.

Now he is a player I would be seriously interested in.

I rated him highly in his draft year and nothing has changed for me on that front, he is progressing along nicely.

If he hit the market, I would expect multiple suitors to emerge.

Lel, Edwards is borderline not even AFL standard bruv. Word has it he's got a big head too.

McGovern will be 31+, and gets injured every 5 minutes. 10 games in 2022, 15 games in 2021, 12 games in 2020.

Whether we need him immediately or not, I'd take 2+26 for 6+DGB in a heartbeat.

Quality KPP's are hard to find. 26 could easily be a spud (likely the case given the weakness of this draft), whilst 2-6 there's no clear cut option for us anyway. Throw a rug over the lot of them as it's a lottery for our first selection.

Reckon this whole chat is a moot point though, given our source of information was 1 rando Hawks poster who lobbed a grenade and left.
We turned Easy Eric MacKenzie into an AA, I think we can develop Big HEadwards into a good FB.

They both have the capability to do it but don’t always have the inclination

Consistency from week to week and within games is something they both need to work on. As do plenty of others to be fair
I look at Rioli and Ryan as very highly skilled and they can and do run both ways BUT when the game plan is crap, when the midfield is that poor it gives such a lopsided inside 50 count, they struggle and looking from afar (as do many other Eagles) to be less interested. This I suspect is the top of the iceberg. I sense they reflect the team spirit.

I sense that Simmo has not got a united or switched on team. Shuey looks to be an appalling choice as captain and leader. His nickname became known as "Chingy" after the 2018 grand final. "Hey team, look at me". Everything I have read on the new era of sporting leadership is not about personal glorification. That is why Dangerfield has not always been liked or valued as a leader.

The malaise has been there for at least 2 seasons. Covid in 2022 and injury are just excuses. When Simpson was challenge on the poor attitude in 2021, he said that they had dealt with it. I probably think that they had discussed it but failed to fix it. Dealing with in my mind is observing, identifying the cause and correcting it. I am not sure how much faith the 2022 rehab team of Allen, Sheed, Yeo and Chesser have with our S&G team. It all takes its toll.

The spirit the team played with against Norf and Collingwood showed what a freshness of approach looks like.

Why the lack of team spirit in 2021/22? I can think of a few. Monster long term contracts to a select few while the rest get the scraps. Credits in the bank. Lack of integrity at the selection table. Poor choice of captain who is not a natural leader of men, more a bloody good soldier when fit.

WRT to Shuey playing on - get to the hbf or the hff and show the Boak and Pendlebury type leadership with team and development needs coming first. Redden in his statement about WAFL is more of what I want to hear.

Interestingly that Barrass was impressive in his recent interview and shows clear leader.

So Shuey playing on cannot do so as captain. He also needs to be an option to have a stint in the midfield. I would be giving the main midfield to Culley, Kelly, Hough, Chesser, XON and Sheed. It does feel like it is missing a bull. Then that will tell the Pieman exactly what we need to prioritise this draft. I think it should be Yeo but his body is saying no to permanent midfield.

Yeo, Redden, Gaff and Shuey are needing to be subordinated. We will be better in the long run with Yeo on the HBF and Shuey on the HFF and having stints in the midfield. I have no idea what I want Gaff to be doing. I also know Redden extending will be OK.

Mm

GWS will take Sheezel if available makes sense with Hill leaving and Green being a undisciplined time Bomb..

Just read this article from Kane Cornes.
And first thing I thought is.

Come on Brayden Ainsworth.
It's time to let it go son.😂 surprised Ainsworth got a mention here.

Problem with Bryan is having to deal with Essendon who are notorious campaigners at trade time.

He’s contracted for next year and they don’t have any other depth behind Draper (Phillips is almost certainly done) so they won’t be letting him go without a fight.

Adam Simpson and West Coast will look to make headway with Junior Rioli’s new contract on Friday, with the Eagles coach hopeful of inking a new deal for his premiership star across the coming weeks. Rioli looms among the biggest names yet to re-sign for 2023, along with Nic Naitanui, Shannon Hurn and Jack Redden, as West Coast plot their list moves after a horror season.

But the Eagles remain confident Rioli will stay as the 27-year-old weighs up his next deal. “It’s actually what we’re going through today,” Simpson told SEN on Friday morning. “It’s not done... but I’m hoping we can get it done in the next few weeks. “There’s always a bit to work through with Junior and where he’s at. “What he’s gone through this year and the last three or four years... it’s been a massive challenge for him and the footy club, to be honest. It’s been a process that we’ve gone through together.” Rioli endured a challenging year in his return to AFL football after two seasons on the sidelines due to his 2019 ban for tampering with a urine sample.

The 2018 premiership player highlighted his importance by kicking three goals and dishing off a goal assist in each of West Coast’s two wins for the year. But he was down on his best form for the remainder of his 11 appearances, adding just eight goals and three assists while also pushing up the ground for midfield stints. Rioli also dealt with the recent loss of his father, taking time away from the club and changing his name across the next 12 months to honour cultural protocols.

When asked if Rioli ‘owed’ the Eagles for standing by him through his suspension, Simpson responded: “I don’t know that it’s ‘owe’ the footy club - that’s probably not the right word. “We’ve backed him in. That’s what we’ve done. We’ve tried to look after his health and wellbeing, primarily, for the last two-and-a-half years.”

Simpson quashed the notion that some players would be fighting for their careers across the coming two matches at WAFL level, with as many as 14 AFL-listed players in contention to line up for West Coast’s reserves side. “You don’t really look at it that way. The body of work that all of our players have done the past two or three years is sort of there,” he said.

The Eagles will hold their John Worsfold Medal count on Friday night, with All-Australian squad member Tom Barrass the favourite to take home the main prize for the first time
