Yep, as much as I’m a fan of splitting pick 2, the reasons for trading down to split picks are the same reasons why another club wouldn’t be willing to trade up

Dont agree.

If a team wants Cadman or Sheezle or Tsatas and they have a top 10 pick after pick 5 they miss out.

GWS want a player at 3 and see another club looking to cut in front trading for our pick 2 then they may be interested in doing something similar to Port.

Melbourne and GWS chasing a key Forward
trade Mr Jack Darling straight up for Luke Jackson or...
trade Mr Jack Darling for one of GWS's first rounders and on flip to Demons for Luke Jackson

don't necessarily want to rid us of Jack, but would like to keep our first rounder and have a crack at Luke Jackson's perfect timeline for our rebuild

JD won't be around when we are competing next

Agree on trading Jack.

But would need to add something to get Jackson. Like a 2nd.

You wont get Jackson for just pick 6.

And from the Hawks we should be demanding Brockman as well.

Exactly - but it also seems a remote prospect we'd part with say 6 and 20 for Jackson either.

Hence earlier comments that our and Melbourne's valuation of him may never reach an acceptable compromise.

hmmm - maybe Jack's value outside of our eyes is more than you think
premiership KPF with 500+ goals and some years left (can also backflip and do spring thing)
vs
Luke Jacksons spotty yet loaded with potential resume

What if the trade was Luke Jackson + MELB 1st Round 2023 for WCE Pick 2 2022.
Melbourne would back themselves to be right at the pointy end next year and we'd be able to get another first round pick in this highly touted draft.
Of course, if Melbourne didn't make the 8 next year that would be a tremendous trade for us.
How would that trade sit with posters?

6 and 20 is as high as I would go. Maybe Bailey is the steak knives.

As for remote. Freo need to beat 6 plus 20.

That isnt easy.

Agree on these targets as being the possible players a club will jump up to 2 to get.

Sheezel - has shown he has real X factor and would be ideal fits for both Bombers (4) and Hawks (6). Nothing like him later on. It will cost a second rounder to go to 1 or 2.
Tsatas - the attraction will be that he plays at pace and the top 4 teams left are all teams that are using pace to overrun opponents. Noe of the later mids look or feel like him. I hear Norf are keen as they have a load of inside and more balanced mids but little in pace. I would not be surprised if he is not the first available player picked
Cadman - to me the best KPF by far. Jefferies is the next and he is a IMO very much later in the draft. I see GWS as very interested and might wait see but would not need to give up much to move up 1 spot with us unless they thought the Pieman was pouncing. I personally think he would be ideal at Norf but pick 1 is probably too soon.

Busslinger was heading that way but his injury has him staying put and not rising while Hayes looks a decent alternative later if you want a KPD. GWS may (just may) pounce. The latest with Twomey is Bussslinger at 13 meaning Cal is not hearing super interest from clubs worthy of a jump up
Wardlaw - you can get a load of what he offers with a bunch of mids available in the 4 to 15 bracket.

What I do like is that the Pieman is never open as to what we are wanting. Chesser last year was the exception as Twomey normally does not pick our targets.

What the Pieman needs to do is put loads of visits into Tsatas, Sheezel and Cadman. This will keep the clubs placed in the 3-6 picks behind us guessing

After finishing 17th on the AFL ladder this year, West Coast is scheduled to enter this year’s draft at Pick 2. It’ll be the club’s first top-10 selection since 2010 when it took Andrew Gaff with Pick 4, due to the club spending many years in the top eight of the competition and trading in Tim Kelly from Geelong.

TK has nothing to do with us not having a top 10 pick.

The farm we apparently sold there is grossly over-exaggerated

Or our first next year instead of this years. I think with Jackson and the players we have to come in the club might back themselves to finish closer to the 8 next season.

But apparently it's also the greatest draft ever next year.

Took this from the Jackson trade thread, looking at this makes me very, very depressed. Our list profile is all out of whack. Pretty much all of our best players are 27 and over and almost all of our players below 27 are largely trash :pensive:

That is fuc king dire.

You cant really judge 21 and under no ine in that 22 ye age bracket is any good.

Allen missed a year of footy, will take another year to get back to his best.

Barass is the only other person i rate under 27. The rest are plodders and plain spuds.

Would be stoked with that but there's no way Melbourne agree to that.

Who’s the better footballer:

Jackson
Wardlaw
Sheezel
Tsatas
Cadman

Jackson comes with a higher contract price but that reflects the 3 years of not only development, but also evidence of his ability at AFL level

My main concern with Jackson is he doesn’t completely address our need to find a No.1 ruck when someone like Wardlaw, hamstrings notwithstanding, is very much the type of midfielder we need

If it was pick 2 alone I wouldn’t be throwing the toys out of the cot
My big concern is that I haven't seen a full game where he has been "dominant". As an example, by Y2 Darling already had a few 5 goal games. Yes, he is AFL quality, but we will be paying star trade price and superstar salary for potential.

You seem quite cynical about comments on the strength of the 2023 draft. It is not the greatest draft ever - I cannot recall anyone stating that.

What it does have that this year does not have is a op KPP's that look top end and some really good mids. The expected outcome will be that the top 10 in 2023 will look more like the top 10 of 2018.

I actually like the draft this year but it does not have the 5 to 8 players at the pointy end. I think it feels more like the 2016 and 2017 draft top end. Again, loads of good players in both these years but the top end not outstanding.

Better top end mids next year:fire::fire::fire:

If Dunkley chooses to remain with the Dogs, or move to Brisbane, another way we can say a big f*ck you to Port will be to draft Phillipou

I am very confident that if Port retain their first round selection for this year, he will be the one they will take. He is highly rated out that way, a local boy, and they value him very, very highly

And he might just have the highest ceiling of any player in this years draft. Win/Win
Crows might take Phillipou first before Ports selection. It’s not a given that they give up pick 5 to the suns
