I bet we aren’t even looking to capitalise on Gold Coasts salary cap issues which is disappointing. We should be all over that pick 7
Yep totally agree Optus would suit his game, if we can afford Jackson salary,
we can afford the $800k Bowes is owed on his back ended salary for next two years.
Then we get pick 8 as well.
Then if we trade pick 3 to GWS we could get another 2 first rounders

It all makes too much sense for us to do sadly

I don’t think our front office is very creative personally, they should be looking to capitalise on opportunities like this but sadly I bet we probably won’t

The knock on Bowes is that he has a bit of the J.Lyons about him - knows how to win possession, but offers very little accountability to his opponent when on the ball.

That said, he would still be an improvement over any of our midfielders aside from Kelly.

If a top 10 pick is being offered in addition as a carrot on top of this then the club should being doing everything they can to make it happen.

Who cares about Bowes, it’s the pick 7 Gold Coast are willing to trade with him that I care about.

If Bowes works out, great, if he doesn’t I do not care, we’d still win the deal

What are Gold Coast asking in return for Bowes and pick 7 besides taking on his salary?

Hard to make a judgement on how attractive the offer is until you know the answer to that question

Offer our second rounder next year. They need points, and no matter how strong next years draft pick 7 this year is far better than a pick in the 20’s next year

Reads that there only asking to take on the salary that's heavily backloaded, it's all I've seen reported so far

On splitting our pick 2:
1. Pick 2 will obviously become Pick 3 on the night due to Brisbane matching the Ashcroft bid.
2. The only team with realistic picks to swap would be Sydney's pick 14 and 17 - which would become 16 and 19 if Davey is also bid/matched.
3. With pick 16 and 19 we've almost certainly missed out on the only mouth-watering options (Busslinger/Hewett/Clark/Phillipou).

Don't bother trading pick 2(3) unless we get an absolute sweet heart deal like North's 2023 1st rounder, or something like pick 7 and 25 from GC which would secure at least one A-grade talent from this draft.

Thoughts?

Collingwood and Geelong may look to trade / split their late 1sts as well.

Collingwood need trade capital for trades in. They will likely get picks for Gawn and Henryif they move though.

Cats need picks for Bruhn and Henry. Bruhn may cost them their 1st alone.

If they just want points next year then lets land Ports future 2nd or 3rd and add it to our 2023 3rd.

2023 2nd will be a good pick for us.

He had been used off the HBF last year due to all the wingers at Gold Coast. Maybe this could have added some defensive aspects to his game .
He has a very good kick on him and reasonable pace . Massive upgrade on witherden and would complement Jones as another running option out of defence .
The reported 800k is the sticking point I would assume with shuey hurn redden and Natanui signing on again .

Bowes is a huge yes from me. Good footy head on his shoulders, good mark for height, good user of the ball, silky smooth - Especially with pick 7 as a sweetener for back loaded $$$

Hunt is a weird one...He's so bloody quick but he can't kick for shit. He would still be an upgrade on the bottom half of our list though. As would Fiorini.

That’s true of course but I think they’d do one of our 2nds and a future 2nd or 3rd for 7 and Bowes

They will want points for next year

Correction, he isn't.

But still, don't understand the opposition. Addresses an area of need and will come cheap with no draft picks required.
  • 28 at the start of next season, so does not fit the age profile of the rebuild.
  • Unless he's on a starter salary, he will impact the salary cap. As teams are looking to salary dump players (i.e. Bowes, Brodie, etc.), room in the cap will prove increasingly valuable.
  • Hunt lacks composure, decision making ability, and kicking skills. He is a very linear player and has a crack. Reminds me of Jacob Brennan 🤮. While we are certainly missing a player who can consistently run lines from halfback, they would ideally be able to deliver an end product. We should just persist with Jones in this role as he has these traits. The errors will creep out of his game in time.
On the for side.......... Nisbett said we're not after B-graders, so getting a C-grader in Hunt checks out.

That's the thing, if he demands minimal pay then it's worth a punt, I'd also be opposed if we had to shell out the big bucks to lure him over. He would be a stop gap measure and useful depth, and his pay would hopefully reflect that. Not all on our list can be first grade players.

Bowes would be a great get but he's going to be hot property and I'm not convinced we have a shot at him.
