No way we could afford both.

It is a risk but we could make room by asking Gov to extend and smooth out the salary. Get him to commit for another 2 years knowing he is probably done before that. Contracted for 2023 and this pushes out to 2025.

Salary cap will increase with new broadcast deal.

Take Bowes and 5 and 7 for 2 and a future 3rd. Alternately take Bowes 5 7 and 34 for 2 and Ports future second. We would have the points then to buy Lions R1 with 38, 26 and 34

Go into this year with 5, 7, 15 and 20

5 and 7 go 2 of MacKenzie Busslinger Phillipou
15 Hustwaite
20 Weddle

I think Hunt as a role player in the side would be good cheap business. We need spread, run and carry desperately.
I'm really torn on Hunt. I get where you're coming from, he's so bloody fast and has a real crack but his skills are ****ing shocking.
Maybe up on a wing again or HFF for pressure and toe?

Now that is a draft haul, that if we landed on Draft Night................. I would need tissues for.

That's the thing, if he demands minimal pay then it's worth a punt, I'd also be opposed if we had to shell out the big bucks to lure him over. He would be a stop gap measure and useful depth, and his pay would hopefully reflect that. Not all on our list can be first grade players.

Bowes would be a great get but he's going to be hot property and I'm not convinced we have a shot at him.
This is very much true. However in acquiring depth, it would be better to avoid players with such severe limitations that they're restricted to very narow roles on the ground. One or two could perhaps be carried (i.e. Hutchings in the 2018 side), but we have already a surplus of such C-grade toilers.

If a role player like Hunt, who can rapidly run the channels from HB, is indeed needed to facilitate the adjusted gameplan, then I hope we look elsewhere (for example, to another Melbourne half back who is actually from West Australia).

If we do the Bowes trade wouldn’t mind if they included sharp in the deal
Maybe pick 2 and our second rounder for 5 7 Bowes and sharp?

I don't think we can trade two picks for two players and two picks this year unless there are more players that will request a trade. Unless we are absolutely brutal with all the remaining out of contract players.

Guys… I feel like this is big

Sydney just dropped Logan McDonald for the Grand Final, I understand he just extended, but this will leave a very bad taste in his mouth I reckon, whether they win or lose, he’s going to feel some type of way

Until Reid is a late withdrawal.

Regardless I really just feel for the lad...He must be absolutely devastated.

And it would be great to see him in the blue and gold.

True I didn’t consider that. Though there is a fair few players on our list I’d prefer sharp over. If we want a proper rebuild we probably should be brutal

I would rather (instead of playing Hunt)
a) pumping games into our youth
b) finding out if our borderline players are deadwood or not so we can cut them next year
c) play Gaff on a wing instead of on-ball

Getting in Hunt for basically 2-4 years will be at the expense (to varying degrees) of any if not all of the above.

I do too, but all three options are likely to result in disaster on-field. If you want to gamble on any of them, sure, but many of the fans won't be as understanding.

Whether you like it or not, full on gutting the list of the borderlines and the too olds would be catastrophic - you need the experienced depth.

Fairly sure pick 15 will be part of the Dunkley trade.

O
Nelson always tried hard, had a very low ceiling due to foot skills and general game speed, but never shirked the contest and even proved a half useful tagger at times. 100+ games from pick 51 is a nice return.

Never understood how he became the scapegoat on here given the people who bagged him also often cried out for more hard nosed, dickhead players with an edge on the team.

Good luck to him. Perfectly correct choice to not offer him a new deal, but Nelson was hardly the anchor dragging us down. Plenty of clubs could do worse than Nelson in that 25-30th best player group, eg emergency or just outside.

Cheers Jacko.
Naish is our GF sprint player. Do we delist him at the end of the race?
Well he is running to the finishing line
