I dunno, a young kid's ego is pricked and he says something a bit stupid. Kind of meh.

A change of scenery might be good for him.
Yeah, absolutely I think a lot of probably comes to do a fairly rubbish environment that he is and just a little bit of immaturity. Not a great look but not the end of the world, which is why I reckon if he wants out every club should be having a little look to see what is there. There's a ton of upside to work with.

I would be surprised if North lets him go. His trade value would be at the lowest it's ever been and I think rather than trading him for a mid-range pick which is all they'd get now they'd prefer to run out his contract and if things have improved by the end of 2024 that's awesome but if not, cut ties and let him go on his way.

This was sent to me by a Hawks supporter. Not sure if covered here already..

Firstly, it assumes Hawks get Bowes & Pick 7 and give up not much else (at least not their second pick)

Eagles
In: 6, 7
Out: 2, 26

Hawks
In: Bowes, 2, 16, 26
Out: Mitchell, 6, 7, 24

Pies
In: Mitchell, 24
Out: 16

Not sure how the pies could take the Mitchell salary dump if they are looking to move Grundy etc and do they really need the mid?

I thought Hawks are big losers in that deal.

Ollie Henry has requested to be traded from the Pies to Geelong possibly frees up extra money to take on Mitchell ..

Thomas reportedly on $700k (per Herald Sun).

If he does request a trade, rumoured to want to go to Gold Coast.

Don’t they have salary cap problems that are so bad they have to give another side a top ten pick to help them out?

2023 trade period: GC looking to offload Thomas and pick 8 for salary cap relief.

Suggesting any player would elevate us to top 8 is over the top.
It's not actually that hard to scrape into the 8. Look at the Bulldogs, they were dogshit for most of the year and more or less fell over the line. As for a lot of the others, if a few close games went the other way, they could have missed too (Tigers, Freo, Lions and Pies due to how many close games they won).

I expect next year will have the usual minimum of two teams out and two in. My early guesses are Dogs and Freo out, Carlton and Gold Coast in.

Rumors of Riley Bonner being up for grabs

Haven’t been keeping up but the outrage about Thomas in that thread is pretty overblown imo. Screams of PAdman on here years ago blaming all our woes on the fact a few players had long hair and beards. Daresay if it wasn’t a fashion oriented social media post no one would even have batted an eyelid.

Anywho - is he asking for a trade? Super talented. Agree with others that we are not the right environment for him

All this talk of super drafts is just pissing in the wind. Your talking about kids.
-HF from North hasnt impose that much albeit from limited viewing.
- yes we need mids but WC. Have always taken the most talented player regardless of needs.
To win premierships you need 3-4 superstars I.E. Petracca, Oliver,Gawn.
-Barass,Cole,Duggan, Cole
-JJ, Gov,Yo; is a very good backline.
Chesser will be tried on a wing not h/b. Hunt will be wing/hf.
-Georgiardes woul make a nice triumvirate with JD and OA but I wouldn’t sell the farm to get him. If you’re gunna go slightly smaller in the forward line then you need workhorses not high flying flashy boys.
-Hunt is a free kick. Accept it and move on.B22 for nothing and not a one year wonder. Win/win

What's the deal with Bowes and is he any good?

We have 2, Gold Coast have Bowes, pick 7 and more than likely pick 5.

If we offered 2 and 20/27 for Bowes, 5, 7 is that in the ballpark?

The issue is we haven’t even tried to go after Bowes and Bowes probably doesn’t want to come to WA sadly, it sucks because it was a perfect opportunity to net a quality high pick

If GWS want to give us that end of first round compo pick they received from Tigers for Taranto (originally belonging to Roos but traded for CCJ), they'd be most welcome.
Hopefully all this talk of us interviewing Cadman has been to make the Giants nervous about not getting him and willing to trade up.

I would do that trade.
A lot better than the one Sam Edmunds suggested today between us and Port.
He suggested Rioli and Pick 2 for pick 27 and Georgiades. I nearly drove off the road and Sanderson said that’s a fair deal, he’d do it. Sando that’s probably why you’re not a head coach anymore.
You're kidding right.

Interesting that the premiers and best list management team going around think it's worth pursuing, and from all reports we haven't even picked up the phone

He's a good solid player who's played off halfback and is keen to play through the middle. Def not a spud, easily be in our 22. The reports are it would cost a future 2nd and the cap space for him and pick 7. No need to include pick 2.

Seems old school thinking not to even make a call imo

Agreed.

Maybe we don't have the cap space. And if we don't then maybe that is a lesson for all the posters on here who believe and argue that cap space doesn't matter.

The other issue whoever picks him up would have to contend with is discontent within their own playing group at bringing in a player on big coin which is overs for what they are worth. You will need to tell them that a) they should worry about their own contracts and not those of others, and b) that the contract was signed by their previous club not us, and that it was the price for getting a quality player without giving up any draft picks for them c) it is only for a few years until the current contract expires and then they will get paid based on what their form dictates at the time, just like everybody else.

But in the case of our club the senior players would be pretty brave to whinge about importing players on "overs" in terms of contract considering that basically none of them seem to have been asked to take "unders". Most of them are on contracts that other clubs would refuse to take on based on current form too.

He obviously isnt interested in playing in WA and wants to play in Vic.

Is that hard to understand?

Of course we asked. Why wouldnt we?

Definately. See if they blink.

I would drop pick 2 to 3 for 19 even if we added a future 3rd, pick 42ish.
