Pick him up with pick 26 and we might just get an early first rounder in 3 years time! Weller esq.

How big a slide is big?

Touted around 20

Taken in the late 20's or even the 30's?

Id take the risk with our 26 that will end up 29ish.
And If he is any good and wants home in 5 yrs, Tassie can cough up 2 or even 3 of the 20 first rounders they'll be gifted in 3 drafts running.

Win win. Good business for pick 29

5yrs of good service and 3 early picks in drafts that will be heavily compromised in favour of Tassie.

Im banking on the new Tassie team getting say the first 5 picks of two drafts and also additional 2nd and 3rd round picks to trade.

But they need to trade 2 of the top 5 picks for players and or picks.

We get a good 5-6 years with an open understanding of a potential future move.

Best case we help develop the 1st Tassie captain and get a top 5 pick as compo. Win win.

OK a Sat night special .........

9 Phillapou
13 Busslinger
22 Clarke
29 Cowan

Hewett, Ginbey, Allan, Jones taken by others before where we would have.
One midfielder out of four, and even then he’s not really a sure thing to be primarily a mid at AFL level.

Carn.

I personally think The Bus is taken before 12. I believe both Blues and Dogs will take him before our second

It will be similar to GC and GWS where they can take uncontracted players off other teams (max 1 per team) and the AFL provides the compo pick.

A guy who wants to play for a tassie team will ensure he isn't contracted at that time...

So at best we would get 1 x 1st rounder after our existing 1st (noting we seem to be trying, purposeful or not, to be contending again around when a tassie team enters the comp).

If he's best available for us still take him, but not with a view of getting outrageous value in 5-6 years.

Mickey Ablett in the HUN today gives his 10 cents

Takeaways
1. Our split of 2 for 8 and 12 he called a master stroke
2. Ginbey, Clark or Hollands at 8 would be ideal
3. Busslinger could be an option but mentioned above as first priority
4. George with 20 is worthwhile

He links the following
5. Sydney with Allan and Barnett
6. Hewett ideal for Saints
7. MacKenzie with Hawks
8. Hotton with GWS late R1
9, Ginbey to Suns
10. Clark and Ginbey to Cats
11. Phillipou to Dons
12. Busslinger or Weddle to Pies
13. Humphrey to Blues if still there

Agree with Mickey - except Hollands at 8 would be a reach

Not by much - I rate him at the 10 to 12 mark. It depends what you rate and where you see his development.

I expect the draft after 6 will start to have very different outlooks.

Example with Blues at 10. They are supposedly looking at Busslinger, Hollands, Allan and Jefferson (could be others).

It wasn’t long ago Hollands was seen as a certainty to the Suns at 5.

Hollands at 5 was always a reach.

The only reason was his brother plays there, not that he was ranked as a top 5 pick.

Maybe the Suns will trade down from 5 for him or pick a higher ranked player!

How do they get both?

The compo will depend on where we finish and how the AFL ranks him.

Id suggest best case we get a 1st rounder, at worst a 2nd.

Either way it isnt terrible and we should be contending. He may stay for a couple more years to play finals instead of getting flogged as a new side. If he moves we get another pick to either use or pqckage to trade in a ready made player of need.

Just feel at 29 he likely would be best available.

Carn.

Rome wasnt built in a day.

If the cards fall a certain way will we reach for mids or pick best available?

Cowan can play wing.

Clarke as a high half forward adds support. I like Clarke as he brings energy, pressure and goal kicking. Good Rioli replacement.

2023 we then have Phillapou, Culley, Chesser and Hough as young developing mids. Cowan and Clarke as half backs / wingers / half forwards.

Thats six youngster. Almost one third of our best 22.

Plus hopefully fit O'Neil, L Edwards, Yeo and Sheed.

Clark and West as depth.

That is a lot of options. We dont want too many of the same type all at the same time. We can add more higher rated mids in the next two drafts.

I’m going to predict a pick swap with Gold Coast with their 1st next year for our pick 12 for Hollands.

Gold Coast OUT - 45, Future 1st IN - WC pick 12

WC OUT - 12 IN - 45, F1

Then we offer up 45 and Ports Future 2nd to Essendon for their pick 22

Head to the draft with 8, 20, 22, 26 and we’re fully loaded for next year

I’d be waiting until next year to grab that first from GC. We have a stacked hand next year & apparently they have 4 or 5 academy kids looking the good that will need to be matched with points so that first will be on the table.

Seems like a waste of pick 12 when we could bundle picks next year & grab that first anyway.
