Oh I agree his kicking is a concern, but I think that’s actually fixable. It’s also mainly his set shot that’s dodgy, his field kicking isn’t as bad

I like Humphreys versatility and he would offer a point of difference for us imo

In all my time coaching I cant think of to many kids who are able to fix their kicking action.... at best they might improve it slightly, but in the heat of baltte particularly when fatigue sets in they revert back their old habits.

Just my two cents worth.

Not taking Hewett at 12 would be crazy. There would have to be a serious slider we throw our plans out the window for to be leaving Hewett on the board at that selection, and I don't mean Allan ffs.

I also don't mind big dopey Max Knobel as a ruck project. Big lad, already 206cm, sticky hands.

Would be a solid backup if we missed out on Barnett. Thing is i think Knobel sits in the 40-rookie range where we have no picks. Wonder if Cockburn would be into him.
Barnett will go higher than we all think.

Max Knob looks like a hitout specialist but isnt particularly great at them like Naitanui or Hayes(PA) are.
Hudson O'Keeffe is a better prospect but I wouldn't draft either necessarily. I think if we want a rookie ruck we throw a pick at the tallest player we can find and hope we get a Preuss/Sandilands. Looking for a player who has been underdeveloped or is just a late bloomer.

I look at Humphrey more like Cam Raynor. Raynor has a dodgy kick but he’ll be winning matches off his own boot soon enough. Also, I’d still be drafting Hewett with one of our first couple of picks unless he has a really checkered history. Plenty of Eastern States clubs would’ve had half a line through him due to the go home factor and then with this on top it would be enough to tip them over the edge risk wise.

Haven’t watched to much of Rayner then.

Unrelated to Rayner, but I think you said yesterday if we bid on Fletcher at 12, you guys wouldn’t be able to match, is that true or?
Depends where the bid for Ashcroft comes.

We’ve got about 3400 worth of points split across the two drafts.

I’m at work, so not able to do the correct math atm.

After crunching the numbers, here's my Top 25 Power Rankings for the 2022 draft crop.
Red denotes Father-Son or Academy pick.

With picks 8 & 12 (turning into 9 and 13 after Brisbane's Ashcroft bid match) I'd be pleased with any two of Ginbey, Busslinger and Hewett.
Fingers crossed we can grab Allan with our 2nd rounder.

Out of interest I had a look back on some reviews for Rayner in his draft year. The knocks on him were his kicking and endurance, sound familiar? He averaged a similar number of goals and disposals per game as Humphrey this year, so I think the comparison isn’t far off the mark. Rayner still has these issues today, but I still rate him as a genuine match winner for the future and would have no issues taking Humphrey with the similar views of what he can potentially bring to the game.

Heres what footyology had to say about Rayner

WHAT HE LACKS

Kicking efficiency:
This is the biggest knock on Rayner and a key hurdle to him becoming a bona fide midfielder. Doesn’t have a particularly smooth action and it spirals off the boot from time to time.

Tank: Doesn’t yet have the capacity to play a full game in the midfield and that won’t change until about year three or four.

Perhaps you should suggest a new username for him.
That seems like a job you would be perfectly adequate at.

Mine has been forcefully done to me. I'm a legitimate victim.

Bid for Ashcroft at 1 needs 2400 points. At pick 2, that reduces to 2014

Brisbane have 2238 in points this draft. So worst case they have a deficit of 162 points, best case a surplus of 224 points. They can match a bid at pick 2, without using pick 55 which means that becomes 52 after using their 4 picks in the thirties to match

Best case gives Brisbane 246 points with 52 plus 17 points left over if they can be carried forward

A bid for Fletcher at our first pick (now 13) would require 970 points to match

They’d then have to find an additional 1132 points (worst case) or 707 (worst case)

They have F3 picks tied to the Bulldogs and Richmond plus their own they can trade 2 of for picks this year. Based on this years positions that’s 533 points available
Depending on what picks they get they have a deficit of 599 (worst case) or 174 (best case) that would be applied to the Geelong F2 they have which can’t be traded.

A bid on Fletcher by say Collingwood (with 17) would require 820 points so reduces all those numbers by only 150

TLDR - a bid at pick 1 for Ashcroft does make it tricky for Brisbane to match a first round bid for Fletcher but not impossible
