Except Harvey was already a star in the TAC Cup comp for the Northern Knights.
You are drawing a VERY long bow comparing him with Harvey.

If you support drafting him, fine but then don’t bitch if he doesn’t work out.

We would need to have completely nailed the first three picks for me to be comfortable taking a speculative punt on him, because a top 30 pick, in a rebuild phase, is one that I would rather not waste.
There are some less sexy picks in that range that don’t have the Jones wow factor about them, but IMO bring more bankable AFL basic traits with their game.

For what it’s worth, I don’t see that much difference between him and Dewar, who we can pick up with a much cheaper draft capital spend. Sure Jones is quicker than him, however Dewar has him covered as far as hitting the score board goes and both are equal IMO in their ability to take a good overhead mark.
You should know I'm not normally one to bitch about players mate...Not normally but noted :). I'd like a small wager of a decent bottle of wine or spirits that he'll end up being at least decent AFL player. Book mark and revisit if 5 or so years to see where we're at?

He says Hewett will get through to our third pick yeah, not second?

Keen for us to ignore The Poo for Ginbey just for the LOLs on here

Yep. Still amazes me how far Hewett is projected to slide. Has far more runs on the board than Allan. Behavioral concerns must be significant as he isn’t even linked to GWS or Sydney’s picks in the first round.

Heard the Melbourne Head recruiter talk about distinct groups of players and how they would be willing to use their and Freo’s Future firsts to get up the order. Would WCE consider trading pick 8 for Melbournes 13 and a Freo F1?

Likely Freo’s future first is in the teens so we push back our selection 5 spots and have 4 selections in the the first 2 rounds in next years draft. Could be fun to death ride Freo….
Nada....

I doubt Hewett will slide that far he isnt Dayle Gartlett. Although, I did say to his cousin that he should tell west coast under the table he will get caught smoking so he slides and he gets picked up futher down the ladder.....

And ****, if he does and he somehow slides to 20 he could be this decade Jack Darling Bargain

So to end up with 2 balanced mids (Hewett and Burgiel), a hbf who we think will make it as an inside mid (Ginbey) and a athletic outside mid/Utility (Allan) meets my brief.

It is also typical Pieman reversing my preferred priority.

What makes this acceptable are the two later picks. As I wrote in my post Keys keys stole from the thread, I am happy with Ginbey and Allan but as a pairing with our top 2 picks I don’t like them.

Why - high risk we don’t get Hewett and Burgiel at those picks and then we have missed an opportunity.

If this scenario plays out, GWS will be getting offers overnight with Clarke, Hayes and Hewett on the table for day 2

Hey, I stole nothing. It’s still your name on that post. I just highlighted it so it didn’t get lost

If the end result is Ginbey, Allan, Hewett and Burgiel then it’s an overall ✅

But it’ll be a nervous 24 hours waiting to see if Hewett gets through

Surprised that he sees Phillipou sliding that far and it’ll be an unhappy board here if that happens and we take Ginbey ahead of him

I will laugh though if after he talked about playing in front of big Melbourne crowds he gets drafted to St Kilda

The only post that deserves to be stickied is this one

It’ll be stickied if it happens don’t worry about that

Twomeys final phantom draft

Has us ending with Ginbey, Allan and Hewett who makes it to our 2nd (I don’t think that’ll happen personally)

We also pass on Phillipou to take Ginbey 🤢

I'm calling it now because I find this scenario ridiculous.

If we still have one of Clarke/Phillipou/Mackenzie/Tsatas on the board at our first pick, we're not taking Ginbey. I can not see it happening.

If one of those four are on the board and we pass and take Ginbey, I'll change my username to whatever you all deem is appropriate.

Hewett's playing the go home card so he can get to us .

Don't think Sydney will take him after Elijah Taylor

Gws won't take players with go home factor .

Johnson was projected top 10 last year and slide to day 2 of the draft

Why are so many people shocked Hewett is projected to slide?

Happens to at least a few players every year, for various reasons.

Because he’s far better than pretty much all of the guys picked after 11 in that phantom draft.

I don’t think he gets to our 2nd though, feel like one of the Sydney clubs will grab him.

Where there’s a lot of smoke there’s usually fire, I think it’s been obvious we’ve been set on Ginbey at 8 sadly, it has depressed me, I’m really not high on him at all lol

But I hope you’re right

Twomey's draft would be an amazing outcome. Rejuvenates our midfield with complimentary players all in one hit. Burgiel looks handy too.
Not huge on Ginbey + Allan combo but if Hewitt does slide it balances things nicely. Would still prefer Phillipou at #8 though. Just imagine the injection of FIGJAM into the side if we landed both the Poo and the Hew... Phew! It's tantalising.
If we took a mid at #8 and somehow knew Hewitt would make it to our third selection it would make Busslinger (if available) at #12 a very sensible selection too... Jefferson also a possibility of course but would certainly prefer Allan or Buss.

Well, yeah. Hence why he’s a (potential) slider.

They have them every year. He seems like a good candidate this time.

Reading back over the phantom, these selections appear most likely (in rough order):

8/9: Ginbey, Phillipou, Mackenzie, Clark, Tsatas
12/13: Allan, Busslinger, Jefferson, Hewitt
23ish: Hewitt (fingers crossed!), Jones, J. Ryan, Clarke, Konstanty
29ish: Burgiel, Hotton, Cowan, K. Smith
Green, Knobel, Drury all mentioned as potential late selections too.

My dream result would be Phillipou, Busslinger and Hewitt + best available with 4th selection, George would be great if he slides! Burgiel and Hotton I like too. Barnett as a ruck choice could be sensible too.

Seriously... can anyone on here actually see Hewett making it past GWS 3 picks, after Taranto and Hopper have just left?

Even of he's miraculously still on the board at 19, they've got the first selection of day 2, so any kent club can trade back in to get that off them and select him ahead of our pick 20.

More chance of Nesbitt retiring on the spot.

Yeah I think there’s next to no chance he makes it all the way to our 2nd

One of the Sydney clubs, most likely GWS will snap him up

We could maybe explore a 12 and Ports future 2nd for Sydneys 14 and 17 though, Hewett should definitely be there and I think Allan could be as well, I don’t buy that a club is going to take him inside the top 13 unless it’s us

It’s the reverse pump up.
Lull Eagles into false sense of security. Nek mennit goes to Sydney at 15

Yep. Even if he makes it through the first round 100% chance someone else will trade up for the first pick of the second round to nab him. Saints or Bombers probably.
