Loved the pettiness of Sydney making GWS bid on their academy player at pick 17 to cost them the chance at getting him at a pick much later....I wish more clubs did this instead of walking these players to their clubs for next to nothing. Loved it.
You should look at the GWS Bigfooty draft thread. All five of their supporters are seething.

Kinda like the idea of George because if we keep our list healthy it’s going to be a juggle finding minutes for all the youngsters so we could afford to have him sitting out

Also means we can go with a full list from the draft knowing we have someone who’ll be a LTI for 2023 giving us a mid year draft pick

All depends on his medical though and whether his knees are structurally sound. So there is a risk there if we do take him

Probably prefer someone else with our first pick tomorrow and take George if he slides to our second

I have seen plenty in Smith, first of, one on one he is very good has good core strength.
He is super quick takes the game on, breaks lines and opens up the game
His kicking is very good
He is capable of playing round 1 next year
Sorry, we’ll have to agree to disagree on Smith. Have watched him play a few times at colts level. As a small defender, I’m more interested in K Ryan and Cowan.

Do we really need a small defender at this time?
At least with Barnett I can understand the impetus for 2025 and onwards.
Also with Barnett running a 6:32 minute 2km time trial Naitanui could nominate him as his running proxy in the pre-season.

Just take George with our 1st, he’s a genuine top 10 talent and is incredibly explosive, he’d add some real firepower to the forward line which is needed with JK and Willie gone and Cripps and Darling also in the final stages of their careers.

At 26 there’ll definitely be at least one of Barnett or Keeler and then I expect at least a couple of Cowan, Ryan, Hotton, Burgiel etc. to be there too

Sheezel was taken with our original pick and he is who I wanted at that pick. This board had a raging boner for The Poo and we could have taken him, so I'll be keen to see how all their careers pan out.

Sheezel ended up and Norf and Poo at St Kilda, so Ginbey and Hewett are already leagues ahead.
We should be getting in Sheezels ear now, for when he wants to leave at the end of next year.

Should be more of it imo. Maybe next time GWS will bid on pick 1 now they’ve been on the receiving end

Surely we take George if available best player left in the draft massive upside and if not injured would have gone top 15 for sure. We aren't contending anytime soon so plenty of time to rehab him properly and get him right for 2024.

Burgiel/Hotton if available for other pick in 20s would be great

I get there's more to it with go home factors and who we could have picked...

But for the direct comparisons its Sheezel vs Ginbey and Hewett. Obviously we won't know for years but I was more than happy when we did the trade and I'm very happy with it happy now

I reckon Sheezel is gonna be pretty good, but if he gets tackled by Ginners he may never play a game of football again

Agree, should be a low priority for a small defender.

Think we nailed our picks. Ginbey and Hewett was the consensus as soon as we made the trade and I’m glad it panned out that way, stuck to our guns. Preference was probably Phillipou over Ginbey but there must be something up with him to slide all the way to 10 when there were multiple teams keen on him before our pick

His knees concern me. I believe he’s had two knee injuries so high risk/high reward when we’ve already taken a punt of sorts with Ginbey

I won’t complain if we do pick him though

I see Barnett as a poor man’s Lycett, and still have believe in B Williams and Jamison as developing rucks, both only 21. Talls next year (Edwards and Curtin), could be stretched to Broadbent as a rookie.

JRyan looks a great 2nd round pick, good ball use and looks very versatile.

George, for reasons mentions in other posts. Worth the risks, won’t play next year, mid season draft is open, Cripps/lecras replacement.

Done get me started on Dewar!

The only punt with Reuben is whether he develops into playing full time mid. I've no doubt he will at least follow Shep trajectory if he doesn't stack up in the guts.

My draft dump in one post.

  • AFL really needs to change the bidding rules. Getting pick 2 for 5 picks in the 30s/40s is a joke.
  • I have no doubt dogs bidding on Fletcher is part of the Dunkley grudge. Smacks of them with Ryan Griffen.
  • Any Northern academies gentleman's agreement has gone straight out the window.
  • The Poo has Brendan Goddard levels of FIGJAM about him. One hand hard to late him since he's still 17 but feel some Ross the Boss direct feedback might sort him out very soon.
  • Giants going into mayday was as entertaining as any draft memory in the last 10 years.
  • Ginbey should not be a surprised to us as he has been linked to us all year (along with Cadman mind you).
  • Hewett I have no doubt will end up as a steal.
  • We are so beautifully set for Day 2. Would love to use a 5th pick on a slider if one eventuates.
  • Wardlaw has a lot of mates if you go off North's insta.
