For our list the only glaring weakness is our smaller backman

We really lack young quick backman that can defend one on one and have good agility

Sam Petrevski
Alex Witherden
Luke Foley
Tom Cole
These 4 including Tom Cole i dont think will be on the list next year

Then add in
Jack Williams
Connor West
Greg Clark
Luke Edwards

That's potentially 8 of the list next year

Next year would like to see Simpson changes things up a bit

Callum Jamieson start using him as a key backman like Harry Edwards
Callum has impressed me when used there he is a lot quicker than Harry has good agility
and turning circle for a big boy with a good leap.

Look at playing Petch as a halfback

Play McGovern forward most of the season
That gives Edwards and Jamieson time in the back half

Gov is only 30 - if he plays in 2023 at the level he was playing this season before injury, you'd think he will go on for more than one year - should be a few I would've thought. Or, are you saying it'll only be 1 year contracts for him from now on?

Yeah, one year at a time for all those over 30

Naitanui should’ve been on a 1 year deal too

Tom Cole is contracted to 2025

He’s not going anywhere soon unless he requests a trade

Harsh on Cole? Missed this season due to injury and with Shep gone is our main small defender

Also he's got a contract till end of 2025 so pretty confident he stays.

Edit - Keys beat me to it!

That contract time may save him keys but he has stagnated as a player and 26/27 we should expecting more from him.
He's another that needs a big preseason

He signed a 3 year deal in May this year whilst rehabbing a season ending ankle injury

I think the club might have a different view on him given that show of confidence

That said, with Hunt coming into the squad, the development of Jones late, Yeo maybe shifting back and the likes of Hough, Ginbey and even Burgiel maybe rotating off half back there’ll be genuine competition for spots back there

Gov can’t go a month without getting injured though, that’s the issue. I could see him having another rough season because of injuries and retiring tbh

Hard to see why we would pass over Sam Gilbey with our first rookie draft pick tomorrow

Would round our draft out nicely

It’s a no brainer, he’s a top 30 talent if he didn’t get injured imo

Fills an area of need too

I feel like he’s a very West Coast pick too so I’d be a little surprised if we didn’t take him, maybe his injury is worse than being let on?

I think he and Jack Cleaver would be in debate. I like both and yes, they fill a position of need.

Not that I have evidence to back this up, but would it be fair to say Gilbey is a bit cleaner by foot?

You have 1 too many in the ruck line

I'd be very surprised to see Cripps totally gone too

So do we still need to trade for Dev Robertson next year? I would say No now.
Well we definitely arent as desperate for mids as we were 2 days ago so we wont be bent over, can see him coming cheap anyway with the state of their list and the father sons coming in
