The last thing we need to be doing in a rebuild is topping up our list with more list cloggers.

That said, I have heard from a couple of Doggies mates that they though he got the rough end of the selection panels decisions as he wasn't a favourite .

Need to be very wary of a 22 year old who has only managed 11 games.
I really like West. For some reason Beveridge seems to prefer players like Vandermeer and McComb over him & I don't know why. He is as hard as a cats head & has some genuine upside. He had a string of good games & kicked a few goals mid season, then had a couple of quiet games and was promptly dropped. I wouldn't blame him for wanting out but I would prefer he stays.

I can't imagine the club is too keen to add 22-year olds with just 20-odd games to their name onto our list. There's a lot of red alarms going off there.

The comparison with XON was very apt. Draft position, games played and output is all very similar.

The only thing with West is that maybe there is a bit of Josh Kennedy at the Hawks vibe going on. Pretty big maybe though.

Thanks PW always good to get a well written post to give clarity on the background of a player from an opposition Club.
Much appreciated. :thumbsu:

Would be a handy addition as a no frills inside mid. If he's played there can be an Hutchings or slightly better level guy. Tackles too :heartarrow:
Cheaply of course #74

From what I understand, Beveridge and Scott West have had issues in the past and that could be one of the reasons that Rhylee is a bit of a whipping boy.

Problematic father?

Straight swap for Winder then.

Fair. West does have a tough midfield to break into.

Similar to another father son, a 21 yr old Josh Kennedy who couldnt get a game, 13 in 3 seasons and was traded to the Swans.

So you’re not interested in Dev Robertson then?

I’m relieved.

Well realistically it’s one or the other right? Can only have so many of a smaller inside mid. Unless we’re trying to buff our mid stocks to give us the excuse to draft Cadman, if we were to chase both i think it would mean we’re not looking at Wardlaw.. Interesting times ahead

I haven't seen enough of him play (nor West for that matter) but if supporters are pinning their hopes on 21 and 22-year old fringe midfield types they'll come out disappointed more often than not.

That's not to say there isn't shrewd business to be done in those parts of a list, but expectations generally need to be tempered. For every Josh P Kennedy there would be at least a dozen that were the equivalent of Jeremy Humm or Daniel McConnell at their second club.

If Scott was upset with Beveridge making his boy wait 5 weeks of good form in the vfl before getting a look in wait until he has to deal with Simpson and the credit crew midfielders we have.

Should start a support group with Winder's dad.

How do you not have Luke Edwards in this group?

The main reason you got him is because his dad had a massive falling out with Adelaide over the treatment of his older brother at Adelaide, and was known to have his say to the coach.

Oof, forgot about him due to being perma-injured.

Good point.

It’s not that uncommon unfortunately.

Jack Scrimshaw’s dad is another noted one from his time at Gold Coast. He used to throw some Wobblies here on BigFooty when his son couldn’t/wouldn’t get a game.

There was a famous time when GC only had 23 fit players, and this was before the medical sub was introduced, and Scrimshaw was the player to miss out. Some fireworks on the GC board that day.

Truth was, Scrimshaw lacked the fitness to run out a reserves game, but according to dad, it was all Dews fault for having the kid in his doghouse.

I don't think the issue in regards to Edwards was in regards to him being involved in regards to his brother at the crows.

If you do a bit of research Edwards and the crows have a bit of history with another one of their big name players who basically refused to talk to each other for the last 5-6 years of their careers. Lets just say it wasn't pleasant and Edwards had very, very good reason to be pissed off.

Luke Edwards worries me in that if he's lost any speed or agility I think he's too slow for the modern game. But he has good skills and a great footy IQ. I think he's just destined to be a fringe midfielder (better than the others we have developing currently)

Yes it was edwards and mcleods wives that had a blue at a crows function right?

Form in the rehab group is hardly justifying a starting 22 spot

Had West in my SuperCoach draft side for a while so watched him pretty closely for a few matches. Don’t really rate him, actually reminds me quite a bit of XON in that he seems tentative to crack in and win his own ball a lot of the time. Seems a bit bruise free. Comparisons to JPK are weird other than the father son aspect. I’m not convinced our coaches will turn him into an effective inside mid.

The JPK reference isnt a direct comparison to West. Its an argument refuting the notion that other teams fringe types are not worth the time considering.

It depends on each case and the strength of the side they trying to break into plus any other contributing factors.
