Contract status of all players now fully updated

The JPK reference isnt a direct comparison to West. Its an argument refuting the notion that other teams fringe types are not worth the time considering.
I get that, but it doesn’t take much on here for impressionable young posters to start running with things like this

Don’t mind the West pick up if it happens. Will come cheap.

Don’t think anyone thinks he will strap the rest of the players to his back and carry them to a flag but could be very serviceable imo. Same as Dev and Sharp.

Bridges a gap and I think all very serviceable afl players. One might turn into a Will Brodie ect.

This is exactly the sort of player we should be targeting.

Young ruck dominating WAFL and putting in strong performances when called up to the seniors.

He’ll get pushed out of regular game time when Jackson is traded in to partner Darcy.

Freo would want the Amon compo pick if that’s what we get.

Rioli for Meek? Short term lose but I think long term gain.

If Freo get Jackson then Meek will clearly be outside the best 25 and will obviously want a trade. I think Freo will be kind of compelled to help him get wherever he wants to go to.

Kind of interesting that there is no media discussion of us chasing Meek at this stage.

I hadn't seen that and generally don't pay attention to the largely east coast focussed stuff on AFL.com. If we were seriously chasing him and actual discussions were taking place i would expect it would be being mentioned in WA sports media. Maybe they are being courteous and waiting for Freo's season to be over before making a move. Or maybe they still think we are in with a shout for Jackson. But probably a more likely explanation would be that according to the same article Natanui is getting a new two year contract, which would make us much less attractive as a destination for Meek if he wants to leave Freo. Especially if multiple clubs are chasing him. And maybe if the club thinks they can get another two years from Natanui then Meek is a lot less attractive to the people making the list calls. They probably think they can use that two years to continue on developing Williams and Jamieson before deciding to go for a stop gap if they fail to develop. I don't agree with Natanui getting a two year deal. Who else is going to come and poach him with a better deal if we only offerred him one year? He has been a great player for us but is now out of shape, injury prone and a defensive liability.

In Twomey we must trust.

It's not just the goals but how they're kicked.

The goals he kicked vs West Coast playing league for instance weren't even remotely crumbing or small forward goals. One was from the goal square, the other he was just loose about 20m out.

If he demonstrates good forward craft, then absolutely. But I'm not seeing that or reading it in his bio's, it's all midfield based, with contested ball being his deficiency
Watch the Claremont V Swans at Revo WAFL game DJ kicked to 2 crumbing clever goals and nailed a standard set shot ..
Not saying he does this all the time but he appeared to be quick thinking ahead of the defenders ..

Wouldnt give up 19.

Freo need goal kicking talls. Waterman straight swap. Both players on the fringe but serviceable. Both are somewhat surplus but solves a need for the club getting them.

Taranto going for significantly less than Tim Kelly would be a huge smack in the face

Rhylee West to replace Cripps long term?

Both were at similar form positions around the same time in their careers.

Who says he will? All we have at the moment is media specualtion (the same people that were trying to push Dusty to Sydney for two first rounders). I suspect Richmond can only afford one of Taranto or Hopper - as GWS can rightly asked for good draft picks in return.

This thread must have had a big clean out of posts ..
So I’ve caught up now , did we trade Brander yet ?

Oh Brander.

I remember when peeps on here were demanding he be played purely because he was a first round pick, not because of form or credits or anything, but because we used Pick 13 on him.

Good times.

Now GWS have played him even less than we did
