I think both Trew and Winder have more potential than anyone we would get at those picks.

Haha.

Yeah you would wouldn't you.

You're the kind of guy that if it were up to you, we'd probably still have Ainsworth and Mcinnes on our list with Shuey to lead this team as captain for another 5 seasons.

Says the guy that’s keen to give Clark games, get a clue champ.

Players with high potential that have had poor injury runs and dedication (?) issues are what the rookie list should be used for.

Where the eagles go wrong is drafting limited mature age players, yet you want to pump games into them.

His knees concern me. I believe he’s had two knee injuries so high risk/high reward when we’ve already taken a punt of sorts with Ginbey

I won’t complain if we do pick him though

I’m not disputing there’s some risk involved, but I think we can afford to take a risk with one of our 2nds.

Either way, there’s some good talent left at our next 2 picks and we likely have Dewar and Baker to come as well, I already like the look of the list a fair bit better, another 2 drafts after this and we will be in good shape.

Harley Reid next year 🤞

Good rookie choices like Joyce?

Trew and Winder have both struggled for fitness. As has their other cohort draftee in L Edwards. There comes a time when you need to look at the portfolio (ie squad as a whole) and realise we have an issue with forever injured players. There are enough at the senior level without needing to find their injury prone replacements.

And we all thought the night was going ever so well and then along comes the chief apologist and excuse maker.

For all the excitement re: Hewett, I reckon some need to throw more love Ginbey's way.

It's very rare that you can draft an inside mid with that combination of strength and elite pace. He's a pretty unique and exciting prospect with a whole lot of development still to come.

Isnt the brief he is a HBF with potential to play inside? I hope it pays off....

Phillipou would have been my pick definitely something to see how it pans out in the future.

If there’s more talented players than the two in the RD I’d be happy to take them, I just doubt that will be the case.

Oh well, with 1st pick tomorrow the guys have a bit of time to do a bit more homework. A little peeved we missed out on Jones but there is still a fair bit of talent on the table.

I reckon we go Cowan with 23. Kids gonna be an absolute gun. Long kicking, rebounding defender who takes the game on. Perfect hurn replacement.
I don't mind the position of need but I think there are a few options with those traits later. Cleaver as a rookie would be good. Smith another but likely to need to use 29 or hope he gets through.

The problem I have is the stats a defender gets nowadays can be very much distorted if they are the designated kick in specialist.

Curious, why you say that. He hasn't been talked about much but tested very well at local combine. Also didn't play NAB league for exposure. Good kid though, quick and skilled.
Gets a lot of the footy and uses it well, played as the highly skilled inside mid for perth but is very versatile, can play anywhere.
Wing, high half forward, and half back he runs his opponent of his feet great gut runner

interesting that 20 year old Winder (with a large scope for development) should be punted despite tearing up the WAFL at stages this year but 25 year old Clark (who has gotten all but everything out of himself) should be gifted games based off it.
I agree that if one of winder or trew should get a reprieve it should be winder .
I'm sure we will have an injury and need a supplementary rookie before the season starts .

Comparing them to clark is silly though .
Regardless of talent Clark is contracted next year, should be a main stay mid next year in the WAFL and probably on the delist pile at seasons end anyway .

We also need our wafl team to be successful next year too . Players winning and feeling good will filter up to the seniors.

A starting wafl midfield of

C SPS Clark Ledwards
FOLL Jamerson west O'Neill

Doesn't look to bad on paper

Clark shouldn’t be a “mainstay mid” he’s not better than Kelly, Gaff, Shuey or Yeo and I’d rather play Chesser, Hough, Hewett and Ginbey in midfield over him

I don’t see Clark getting much game time next year personally

Bringing up Clark was purely because Dark Sharks was keen for him to be given AFL games next season.

Baffling considering his stance on young prospects with actual potential.

Agreed that Clark is good for our WAFL team to aid development.

Trying to piece Twomeys phantom draft back together after the last third of the first round was blown up

Ryan (Collingwood) and Cowan (Sydney) were off the board by now in his phantom

Hewett and Rowston were still there

22: GWS - George (Originally had George then Jones who they’ve already taken)
23: West Coast - Clarke (Had Hewett at this pick with Clarke and Ryan as possibilities)
24: Bulldogs - Ryan (Had Clarke here but if we go him then Cowan, Ryan and Hotton the others mentioned still available)
25 : Essendon- Hayes
26: North - Cowan (Had McCallum but also mentioned Cowan who wasn’t available at this pick in his phantom)
27: Sydney (was Hawthorn) - Gruzewski (Had swans taking Weddle who Hawthorn took and had Hawthorn taking Gruzewski here. Hawks cough up a F2 and F3 to play swapsies. Terrible trade)
28: Collingwood - Barnett
29: West Coast - Burgiel
30: Collingwood- Hotton

It’ll be interesting to see what offers go to GWS for their pick and whether they take one in an attempt to mitigate the damage Sydney did to their draft strategy

We’re probably choosing between Clarke and Ryan based on what Twomey thought and tbh he’s done a fair job so far of picking who’s come off the board

Hopefully someone bids on Davey before Essendons pick just to **** ‘em. Maybe GWS do a Sydney and bid then trade the pick

Ginbey, Hewett, Clarke, Burgiel would be a nice draft for us from a start point of 2,20,26,40 pre trade period then add Ports F2 and F3 for Rioli as well

Edit : We also brought in Hunt as a DFA
