Cole - Am I missing something with him?

He'd be on my shortlist to trade/cut, along with some of the other mentioned already.

Simply just trying isn't enough.
Yep your missing something .

Finding tough quick lockdown small defenders isn't easy .

Does a good job , puts the team first and best of all doesn't demand a huge salary.

Would you rather have Baker on 900k a year play that role ?

We have hough playing that role now too but I would much rather have hough develop into a more attacking player .

Duggan is playing midfield.

Rotham is gone

Witherden was way too slow

Maybe chesser can play that role but hasn't shown he is even afl quality yet

Plenty that go before Cole I agree, would want a solid season though. With our influx of HBFs that aren’t great kicks I’d love to see him on a wing.

In regards to your post on Warner, what do you think is a fair price?

why are so many people calling for Hough to move up the ground ? Crazy!! A player that can lock down Star small/medium size forwards; you know; the ones that have killed us for years; is rolled gold.
Gov/Hed/Barnett are our bigs,
B.Allen and Ginbey are our medium to large fast tough half/b.
Cole,Duggan,Johnston,Baker are our smalls.
Yo can also be eased back as hopefully going forward our midfield will be much better.
Basso for depth, Grego going forward? (Future)
If Petruccelle had any brains he should eye up a back pocket as he fits the job description exactly.

And there will be surprises.

How many years will Ryan play? He allegedly looked at Qld as an option last trade period.

Will one of the kids from Vic get lured home?

Barnett to SA?

I wouldnt mind Kelly to be caught up in the Warner trade to limit our draft cost in landing him.
totally.
Ryan has 3 years decent footy left.
Only kids lured home will be players that WC don't want, never happens.
I think Kelly will get a 2yr contract end of year on reduced salary.
Still need Yeo, Kelly for another couple of seasons while WC develop next generation.
Only way Kelly leaves is if other local club offers him more if we need to land a bigger fish after Warner.

I'm tipping A.Reid for the top question. Just looked to me as the least excited and biggest "I miss my mum vibe" when he first got drafted. Add to him not playing AFL yet, probably won't be for a while, and getting routinely flogged by the Beagles and.....

Barnett has zero trade currency. Absolutely zero currently. He'd need a bumper season or two before any club would care to take him, which would really sting West Coast if that were to happen, right after he finally starts showing something.

Bottom i'd love to happen, but you really think Kelly after relocating his family to Vic for a couple years, then all the way back here, is going to relocate them again? This time to Sydney of all places? Chances are the bloke keeps carrying on as he is, topping up his retirement before bowing out in another 2-3 seasons.

Archer recently extended his contract by two years, think there’s more likelihood of us getting his big brother Zach over if the Bombers can’t sort him out. In saying that if he’s stuck in the beagles all year I agree it would be an unmitigated disaster. Same with Shanahan in 2026. Everything else is spot on. Barnett is worth a packet of chips and Kelly isn’t leaving WA.

agree.
Looking forward to see where our KP players develop this year, several look like they could fill KDEF roles.
Maric intercepting Gov type, A Reid KDEF, Barnett KDEF .
Will probably come down to one of A Reid or Shanahan playing KDEF.
Hope they progress quickly as after Gov and Edwards we only have Bazzo in KDEF options and he is more of a 3rd tall perhaps, Bazzo would need to progress to get another contract.

Along with getting a distribution HBF with our 2R, Rodriguez (or Warner) and in particular Cody Curtin will be our draft priorities IMO. Would love to roll the dice (cheaply) on Zach Reid and see if we can entice Curtin snr back to play KPD with his brother.

Ideally Barnett still becomes a good ruck but it’s looking grim. Both he and B Williams are worth trialling as KPDs. Keep Archer and Shanahan in the forward half, they’ll be an incredible combo after Oscar and Jake.

Yeah hopefully, it's just a feeling

Same thing i have regarding Bailey Williams leaving the club at some point. Flynn coming in last year is going to spell the end of that blokes career at WCE IMO.

HBF type distributer would be a nice addition but WC have that in Ginbey, B Allan and Baker at the moment, Lindsay from VC would be the current top type in 2025 draft.
Agree with Rodriguez, Curtin, brother Dan is OOC in 2026 so if draft brother that would entice him to consider returning home.
List holes in KDEF and elite mids are most important priorities 2025.
Think JW and Shanahan would be next KFWD combo.
A Reid and Maric could be the KDEF duo we are searching for, Maric more mobile like Gov and A Reid is mobile but probably more a FB with his height, extremely good below his knees which would make a dangerous KDEF in the mode of H Andrews, taller Barrass, taller S Taylor, more agile McKay imo.
If we can turn Maric and A Reid into that our KDEF stocks would improve considerably.
Barnett hopefully becomes a decent ruck, I believe he was injured most of 2024 so giving him a pass for that still has 2 years to improve imo.

We don’t. Those players aren’t distributors, they are all below average or shit kicks. Baker is clean off the deck and the other two will break lines but none of them are slicing through zones by foot or hitting blokes running full tilt lace out with any kind of consistency. We disappointingly overlooked Archie Roberts two years ago then Essendon took him, Harrison Oliver was the best option last year, Lindsay followed by Burton look the best options to date this year.

These were just examples of surprise moves that free up list spots.

Agreed Barnet not worth much, 3rd if lucky.

Dont underestimate the lure of the mighty dollar with Kelly. Call it a vibe. He did start late remember.

vibe/bigger $ for Kelly?
I must say I tend to agree, but can't see him leaving WA??
I hope we are wrong but if Kelly wants 2+ years on the same contract at end of year I would throw a contract at Rivers, right player, age, profile, 2 years off RFA but if Melbourne don't improve and have a few more on/off field dramas I would take Rivers on same contract long term and except the trade for Kelly, throw a F2nd, 2nd round pick and whatever else it takes within reason.

Tom Cole looked like he was going to have a great career and become one of the premier smaller defenders back in 2018 when he played in a premiership.

Unfortunately I don't think his performances in the years since have been much to get excited for... and I would argue he would have been dropped a lot earlier if he wasn't one of Simmo's favourites.

I would be happy to see him played on a wing or even on ball to see what he can bring but I can't see him being picked in the backline ahead of Hough, Ginbey, Duggan, Hunt and Baker.

Throw him in the guts in the Beagles with Sheed and have those blokes lead the young lads to a few more wins in 2025.

Disagree with Hunt, he isnt much of a defender(in a defensive role) and I think we have enough run from d50 from the others there that he doesnt really add as much as Cole does to what we have imo

I agree. Hunt has speed but his disposal/decision making is poor.
He may get a gig short term because of that speed but he’s not somebody I’d consider as anything other than depth!

Warner is not worth more than a contracted Bolton.

Taronto is pretty close to warner as a player leaving .

Both warner and taranto leaving at the same age and both leaving NSW teams , both in the top couple of midfielders in their team stacked with talent .

Taranto went for 12 + 19

Luke Jackson went for 13 + f1 + f2 the f1 and f2 would have been assumed at 13 and 33 the following year .

Rankin went for pick 5 .

If the hawks pick is top 10 I would rather use that than our pick 3ish.

There is no rule that we have to trade our higher pick .

Top 10 pick + our f1 which would be top 5 for warner + f1 Sydney

So that's a top 10 pick + future top 5 pick
For warner + future teens pick

If we did have to use our top 3 pick that would be it nothing more

Yeah thats where I see him too.
I actually have him just outside my ideal starting 23 to start the year but thats unlikely to be the case in reality
