The club isnt competing for the flag, time to move on

With that sort of perspective i'm glad you're not at the club. Nicnat is the heart and soul of the club. You don't just abandon players like that. Particularly a 3 time AA coming off of back to back AA's and Club Champion awards.

I am looking to the future, you are still stuck in the past, you rather him play on next year and hog up 15+ games instead of some upcomer

NicNat can play for the next two years and Ruck Coach as well if he wants !!
I agree with the ruck coach, dont see why he should play on if we are not competing for the flag, might aswell extend hurns and kennedys contracts for a further two years

I agree we need to move players on but not NicNat still feeds our midfielders and important to the club . ....Nic will be back and retires on his terms .

So you believe we are still in flag contention
You only have to look at the teams that deliberately got rid of all their senior players to see how silly that is as a strategy. Yes, we need to re-profile the list but taking draft picks in the 80's to replace all Australian caliber players is not the way.

How often does "sack everyone over 24" work when rebuilding a club?

We do have to clear a few names just because we've overloaded with the supplementary listed players, but I think there will be a few go happily at end of year.

I see us as so far off contending for a flag it’s not even funny. That said, how much better will Chesser, XON, Naish etc be with NicNat feeding them.

We are a strong club, I want us to be strong enough to accept 2022 and 2023 as rebuild years and act according. Not talking about blowing up the list, just rectifying the imbalance and prioritise development.

As list manager, I’d farewell JK and Hurn, see if we can get a R2 for Gaff, take the captaincy off Shuey and give him a less taxing role and pay him on a games played contract. NicNat stays but on a low $ with the post retirement gig of CEO of the NicNat academy.

Use the rest of 2022 to learn about Rotham, XON, Waterman, Foley on a wing, etc. then know whether we keep or tip out. Sustained run in a set position would be a good start.

Then it’s over to Simmo to come up with a new game plan that suits Optus, suits Perth’s weather and fill the list it as we see fit.

Oh and I would like to recruit a list manager that lives in Perth. The Pieman can stay as chief recruiter but he has an input on who is good but we draft for our next tilt and not per his sorts.

Thanks for bringing a bit of perspective on this Bond. :thumbsu:

What most on here dont get is your 3rd point. When an opportiunity arises you dont turn your back on a quality player who wants to come and play for us. All the guesses and wishes we all post here mean absolutely nothing unless that player is interested in coming. These opportunities present rarely.

You posted later would you be happy with English and Brahn for pick 6. That would be outstanding if it occurred imo. Been mentioning Brahn for some time as a potential target given where he grew up and the tough midfield he is trying to break into. And oh it would be SO sweet to snatch him from Geelongs clutches as they too are keen.

Two quality young players in positions of need that are plug and play round 1 2023.

Also leaves us the two 2nd rounders to use to trade up to get that 1st rounder we need to use. Would prefer to use one 22 2nd and a future 2nd.

Dream trade and draft period.

Pick 6 ish split for English and Brahn. (Feel our pick will be 3-4)

Ports 2nd say 25 (if higher than ours) plus a 3rd for Lions pick 17. May need to use a future 2nd or add a later pick to the 3rd for points Lions need.

Go to the draft with pick 17 our 2nd pick 24. Best available at those picks.

The draft backers wont like it but its a smart strategy. People get overly excited about the unknown / unproven shinny new player. But 4 x 18 years olds, especially rucks, will take years to impact. And as we all know this club doesnt spend 10 years rebuilding and not playing finals.

I hope that watching the rest of the season and the likes of Naish, Clark, L Edwards and others show you dont need top 10 picks to land decent mids. And the cupboard isnt as bare as many feel.
I don't know why we would be giving up a first for bruhn.

Jhy Caldwell was 1 pick earlier in his draft year and bombers payed pick 30 + F2nd for Caldwell + 44 (ended up 39) + 77 (ended up 53)

They basically gave up pick 30 for Caldwell, then paying the future 2nd to get picks 39 + 53 .

If we split our top 5 pick for say 12 + 15

15 for English
Ports 2nd for bruhn

Take 12 + our 2nd and 3rd to the draft .

Now all we have to do is flog gaff off for a 3rd and salary relief

If we get a top 4 pick use it on the best player available. As an example going back over the last 5 drafts pretty much all the top young midfielders are inside the top 10 selections

Shown no signs of slowing down? The guy hasn't jumped for a mark for 2 years and barely gets off the geound at ruck contests these days. He's nowhere near as fast as he used to be either. He's obviously in physical decline.
I wouldn't jump either for fear of busting more ACL's on my knees :tearsofjoy: Just means he has to adapt in the final phase of his career.
Think he should be moved on or retire, no point of him playing on if we are not in flag contention, rather get games into our next ruckman then wasting a few more years into an oldie
Myth, because what if the ruckmen on the list are no good? We saw Bailey Williams get destroyed on the weekend by Ladhams who can barely get a game at Sydney. He's been on the list for 4 years now so should be showing the ability to dominate the WAFL and be able to fill in at AFL at a decent level. He's not which is a huge red flag.

Bond suggested a low pick in the 20's for Bruhn so that may happen.

What may come into play is our top 5 pick goes to GWS for its 1st plus Bruhn.

Pick 3 for Bruhn and pick 9 say and squeeze a 3rd rounder out of them as well.

Then with our 2nd, Ports and a 3rd we need to get another 1st to trade for English as we all know we are required to use one first rounder this draft.

Really in order to fast track any rebuild we need to do what the Hawks couldnt. Trade out a couple of older players for picks to hit the draft harder.

But who?

Its not the West Coast way but that trade for Kelly may force our hand.

Which teams got rid of ALL their senior players?

When did Richmond move on Delideo?

Yet another BOG for Tinglish.

22 disposals, 10 contested, 1 goal, 6 clearances, 7 marks, 10 score involvements (most on the ground) 22 hitouts, 459MG and 138 ranking points.
His opponent Xerri had 20 disposals , 12 contested , 26 hitouts , 8 clearances and a goal also .

The two pretty much just ran around unattended all game .

English was beaten in the ruck but probably out pointed Xerri around the ground

We probably end up with picks 5, 21, 23. Ashcroft as FS drops us down a further spot so 1st rounder will be #6 . Draft is a good year for rucks, there's a few good KPP, not that great for quality mids. I'm a big fan of taking the best available but at #6 it could be down to positional needs.
If we go for a midfielder what do we want? Outside/ inside onballer or a winger?

Calling for Nik Nat to be ousted, goodness gracious, we have some goofy types on this board, or trolls.

Who is saying Nic gets ousted? But the guy is 30 and has had how many serious knee injuries?

Reality is Nic may play 1 or 2 more years and thats fine, but we need to find a #1 ruck and by next season. That is clear.

And no one is saying sack ALL senior players. Posters who use those terms are just using silly terms to get likes.

But one or two who have lost their way and commitment to stay for the rebuild? Move them on and all parties are better off.

At seasons end we will see what comes first the club or individuals

Personally I thought we saw that last year with Kennedy and Hurn. Hard word should have been put on both.

Mind you, as events transpired with injuries and Covid, we’re probably better off with them on the list than not on the list.

But hindsight is a beautiful thing.
