I wouldn't mind that, what player though?
I just want to keep our first and whichever is highest from Port's and ours second rounder and go to the draft

I haven`t given it much thought but off the top of my head maybe a Gaff .Duggan , Rotham .,B Williams or Waterman ..

Shuey was clearly playling to not injure himself yesterday. He was holding back from bursting away in a few situations and looked awkward. Needs a more simplified role. Maybe half back.
He was also gassed within the first 2 minutes of the game. Ball handling and timing was off as it was for Kelly and cripps these 3 should have come back through the 2s. Selection killed us again.

Although Sydney's game plan destroyed us just like last year it's like we didn't review the previous games against them and learnt nothing. It looked like we were playing checkers while they were playing chess. Simpson had no answers

Keep Cripps, he shows consistent effort, does the hard running and 1%'ers, players a difficult role quite well, is 30 this year so not over the hill yet, I we share a birthday. We need to keep players like him, and some experience.
Bit trigger happy on Nic Nat. He's won our last two B&Fs. And no obvious replacement yet.
If Shuey has another season of 10-12 games then I think it might be time. Either way I think one of Shuey, Redden or Gaff needs to be turned over in some form, to get some younger bodies in midfield. Think Redden and Gaff are highly likely to stay on though.
Darling I'd happily trade if we can get something decent for him, you'd think he could still be valuable for a team in contention, it is time to load up in the draft and it's one of the rare cases where you can easily justify moving on a very experienced player without getting people offside.

So I think:
JK, Hurn, Shuey retire
Redden 1 yr contract if form is decent. Then retire
Darling for pick c.20
Nelson retained as depth. He has no currency otherwise, and you need depth players
Nic Nat 1 yr, Gaff stays on, as does Cripps.
That's 4 out the door with a couple younger players facing the chop too.
Darling contracted for another 3 years.
How's that going to work out?

Perfect age profile for the Cats :)

More seriously, we could do a deal with GWS - Darling for Coniglio and both clubs ignore the massive stuff ups we've both made with big contracts for these players.
Cog's is on a million a year and he's not worth that.
I doubt Darling wants to leave WA anyway.

I haven`t given it much thought but off the top of my head maybe a Gaff .Duggan , Rotham .,B Williams or Waterman ..

Rotham for mine would get us a pick upgrade. Rotham in a decent side would go well as a 3rd tall defender.

Or even Witherden with a 3rd might get an upgrade. For his faults he does some good things.

Wonder if Darling would consider working interstate for 2 to 3 years? Get away from the Perth footy fish bowl?

QLD would be the place IMO. Nice weather, beaches etc. Suppose the real question is where would his mother in law like to live?

Given that the season is blown, this should be the year where we lay that down as our standard. No guaranteed games, must be able to run out a full game in the 2s.

Agree completely here. The biggest worry is all the talk that comes out of the club is the complete opposite.

Simmo even said in his presser "we didn't have a choice, they're 3 of our best players"

I mean, wtf. Of course there was a choice, you're the God damn coach.

I'd just give everyone 1 year contracts to be honest, or cut them.

The only players i would extend now or early next year are Hough & Chesser. McGovern & Cripps depending on how their bodies are, should be given a 2 yr extension then drip fed 1 yr until retirement.
I'd say that we have seen enough of Petruccelle & Waterman to know they will only be bit part players and I would be open to trading either or both. Williams & Bazzo probably get another year each to see what they have but i'm not convinced either will make it at this point.

Delist Foley? Seriously?

Delist Foley? Seriously?
He's had 4 years on the list and doesn't provide any more than Cole, Nelson, Witherden, Duggan, Rotham, Chesser ...
He's the kind of guy who plays 10 games a year and looks ok for 5 years. But wont provide any meaningful rebound, intercept marking ability just the solid-good skills.
Do you see him being a 200 gamer West Coast great in 10 years time?

Yes I do.

He is more physical than Witho, Chesser hasnt even played yet.

He has overtaken Rotham. Nelson? Come on mate.

Duggan is better. Cole marginally.

If the criteria for keeping players is "Will they be club legends?", we may as well delist 95% of the team. Depth is good.

Jack Redden isn't going to go down as one of our best ever, but we'd be a worse team if we'd cut him in the past.

How do we give Black 1 year when he's not on our list.
