The worst academy pick of all time was Nick Blakey! That was an oversight, he only lived in Sydney because his dad worked for the swans...
He wasn't a true born into a non afl environment, which is the major reason for the those academies. He would've practically grown up at the swans.
Blakey is no different to Ben Keays, Jack Bowes or Jaspa Fletcher.

All come from AFL families, who’s father coaches or coached.

Fletcher’s dad coaches a QAFL team here. Bowes dad coaches in Cairns and runs the Suns academy up there. Keays dad coached his boys at junior level.

Almost every QLD draftee out of our academies come from expat Victorian or WA families. At the Lions, only Jack Payne comes from a non afl family, from a non traditional pathway in to football.

Hoping JFS stays at the Kanga and they sort their shit out

They'll take Warlord as they will finish 18th

If JFS stays they may go tall

Thoughts on chasing Taranto or Hopper? Either would be easily a no1 inside mid. The question is what could we pay pick wise

We don't have the draft capital to use or the salary cap at the moment. Gov took a 200k paycut this year purely so Kennedy and Hurn could go on 1 more year. If we shipped off gaff even for a nothing pick and shuey and redden retired then I would give up pick 1 for both of them. But no more. Both young enough that in 4-5 years when ready to challenge would still be in the right age bracket. Either way almost absolutely zero chance.

They do already have a good amount of young mids: LDU, Sympkin, Phillips, Goater and Powell. So they might not. They look very key position light.

I think Busslinger would be right in their sights.

Geez, Phillips instead of McDonald was a massive error.

I think the difference is if their dad is in the AFL system already vs coaching at other levels. Did Bowes old man move up just for that gig? As Blakey did, so yes he grew up in Sydney but would've been in and around swans club all his life (elite level).

I am not too fussed what number draft pick we get. We will either trade it away for fk all, or pick a poor kid who will get injured in his first pre-season with us.

If weve got pick 1 I'd rather use that in the draft then try to get Robertson and maybe bruhn
