Even in say that north scenario there. North may well be wanting to upgrade pick 4. We may even be able to trade pick 2 and 21 (adjusted for end of first round priority) for 4 and North's future first.

North go this is the year we go in hard for what we want and take pick 1,2,19,21 to the draft. New coach, chance to mould the list with a group of youngsters with his input and would potentially sell a lot of hope to members etc. They take who they consider to be the top 2 talents and then go shopping for talls at 19/21 etc.

* if they want gaff and we pay half his salary as steak knives then go for it. I see 2 picks likely between 3-8 next year as having huge value to the club.

North if they continue their shitness will likely then likely get another priority pick next year anyway.
North do not have their second or third round picks.

I think it's working on the assumption that JHF was to go. But you are right if they keep JHF I see them not drafting Wardlaw. Then we really are likely bound for godfather like offers.

FFS. Busslinger will slide now. Won't slide far but will likely slide far enough to not be in the equation for any downtrades or similar helping us. Even with the injury I see no way he drops below GC pick.
Yeah, it's terrible news for us. Fvckkkk

On 360, Robbo saying North should get picks 1, 7 and 12.
FMD
Actually Robbo said;

“A CEO said to me, don’t give them pick 2, because they already have pick 1 for finishing last. Give them pick 7 and pick 12…”.

King then went on to say

“… the longer you want them to spend down the bottom… give them two picks. You got to give them something over three years, it’s got to be layered”.

I believe Sheezel’s ceiling is Isaac Heeney like. But he really hasn’t shown midfield potential at a high level yet.

I also find it hard to believe a team with pick 3 or 4 is going to offer you a future first round pick to move up to your pick for Sheezel.

If Sheezel is genuinely the best player in the draft by the end of the year, then North will draft him.

If he’s the clear second best player in the draft, and you are shopping the pick, then teams will know you have no interest in Sheezel, and they aren’t going to pay a premium to move up.

The Hawks might really like Sheezel, but they’ve been pretty open about wanting more high draft picks, and are offering up their senior players for picks.

The Hawks need to build their midfield, and any of the top 4 or 5 mids suit a need. They’re not going to trade two high picks for anyone short of a generational talent. More likely to make such a trade in 2024 or 2025.

And if Essendon don’t believe you’ll draft Sheezel, they’ll just stay put, and gamble on West Coast picking Hewett.

As we have all discussed North desperately need KPP, so splitting their pick for two firsts will be something they will consider, especially since Busslinger will slip a little bit now.

However with a new coach and a possible priority pick ( I’m guessing mid first or end of first) with which they will most likely take a KPP, they will want an arm and a leg for pick 1 and I don’t see anyone giving two firsts for Wardlaw or Sheezel. There's also the fact they need to market the shit out of that football club and nothing says shiny and new as much as a pick 1. I went to a few home North games earlier this year in Melbourne and let me tell you, when the players were announced at the start of the game the crowd only cheered loudly for one player. Want to take a guess who that was?

If JHF won’t commit then I expect the Crows will be making a phone call to offer this years first and next years along with a swap of other picks, but if he will stay then Sheezel will be their best bet and who i expect them to take with pick 1.

If this happens I wouldn't hesitate taking Wardlaw with pick 2, well pick 3 actually because i would make Brissie cough up for Ashcroft.

I like Hewetts size and his ability to hit the scoreboard, Phillipou looks ok and so does Clark and maybe one of them will continue to rise but atm Hewett is my preferred player. I wouldn't be against splitting our pick but i'd have reservations as I think we desperately need an inside mid and Hewett would be our best bet of the 3 for that role.

The best i see us getting from the Hawks for pick 2 (3) would be their first, their second and maybe a future second or swap of our third for their second. They won’t be giving up two first round picks for him.

The other problem is if Hawthorn beat us this weekend then they are a bloody good chance to leapfrog GWS which as some posters have mentioned could be problematic for us downgrading our first if we have eyes for Hewett.

Still plenty of games for the youth to show their wares but where it sits for me atm is i hope to god JHF commits because it may very well land Wardlaw right in our lap and if it doesn't and we wan't to split our pick then i hope to hell Hewett will still be on the board.

For those in the know

When was the last time a team was given a PP in the first round please?
Gold Coast in 2019.

Pick 2 in that draft. Well actually it technically would be the following year as they were also given pick 11 in the 2020 draft, which they traded to Geelong so they could draft Jeremy Sharp.......which was then traded to GWS as part of the Cameron deal.

JHF won’t go - new coach now and would be a terrible look for a #1 pick (who hasn’t delivered yet)

Maybe North take Sheezle and then maybe we drop down to take WA talent but we do need a 250 game match winning mid :unamused:
He's under contract.
He's going nowhere unless North agree to it.

Your assuming Sheezel will be the next Chris Judd and or remain injury free

Was tongue in cheek.

I'm basing my call based purely on the stats peeps post here that have him regularly racking up a lot of touches and goals week in, week out. Peeps that actually watch this stuff will have a better idea than me :thumbsu:

All I know is we'll most likely grab a HBF with midfield potential who struggles to hit 15 possessions a game, and that was in his U16 year.

I think North will get a priority pick but I don’t think it’ll be pick 2

More likely to be end of first round which I think is justifiable, perhaps even middle of first round at a stretch

Rewarding incompetent management with pick 2 sets a really poor precedent. I know Gold Coast got pick 2 but their problems went further than simply bad management because player retention was also an issue

And the AFL are less invested in North surviving than the Suns
We should be loudly banging the table and demanding that the whole concept of priority picks should be scrapped. They wouldn't give one to us even if we won 5 spoons in a row. It is not in our interests for this concept to continue. They won't set a formula to determine who gets a PP because then it will be gamed. But at the same time it is way too subjective to let the AFL just make a discretionary decision on it. It needs to go.

TBH we should probably keep quiet about Priority Picks, given our fantastic history with them.

They are 3 of our best-ever 22, all from priority picks (only one of those at the top of the draft though).

Start of 1st round priority picks should be very, very rare. Mid-1st-round I don't mind, and end-of-1st-round should be more common (to the point that if we were to win less than 5 games in 2023 I would argue we should get an end of 1st round PP).

Nth this year should get pick 11. A lot of their issues are self-inflicted, so that can't be encouraged by offering up picks 1 (earned) and 2 (PP).

One of the issue I have with North getting a PP at the front end;

They've already got LDU and JHF. North look like a busted ass now, but in 3 year's time it's going to be different. They've been given top end talent already.

If a team is as bad as Nth have been, getting an 18yr old at pick 10 or 18 (mid/late 1st rd PP) to the club does little for their ability to improve quickly. What it does is give the club a long term advantage (a top tier player with a 15 year career) that other clubs who went through the AFL's "rebuilding" cycle miss out on. That is not the spirit of the PP.

I like the concept of priority picks being given under the proviso it is used to trade for a player from another club.

Give Nth pick 10, if then traded for a Grundy or Taranto or whoever else is likely to move clubs, it helps them improve on field straight away.

North may just have to go South to Tassie except Tassie don't want them !!

Next option is folding

Next option give them high draft picks for free and Alistair Clarkson .
